Three House Republicans meet with Assad in Damascus

Not only are they giving Assad political cover, they’re giving Pelosi and the left cover to continue pursuing their shadow foreign policy. So they’re useful idiots twice over, aren’t they? Disgraceful.

Will we ever get back to playing by OUR rules and not bending over backwards for these backward thugs?

bbz123 on April 1, 2007 at 1:00 PM

Well i guess now it is bipartisan, Congress sucks. We need another revolution or term limits.

djohn669 on April 1, 2007 at 1:01 PM

It is disgraceful. And is it just me, or does Assad seem to sit in the same position in that chair in every photo?

Chris L. on April 1, 2007 at 1:07 PM

Larry, Mo and Curly, traitors three.

Wade on April 1, 2007 at 1:08 PM

These treasonous types continue to undermine foreign policy, when they go against the wishes of the State Department and Executive Branch. Until they are charged with a Logan Act violation, these Benedicts’ will continue to weaken the noble efforts to spread freedoms. These actions of Pelosi and her minions empower our enemies and endorse terrorism. Despicable.

On the upside, if these three AND Pelosi got arrested for violating the Logan act GW could hardly be thrashed for being only against the Dems.

bbz123 on April 1, 2007 at 1:15 PM

Virginia Republican Frank Wolf, Pennsylvania Republican Joe Pitts and Alabama Republican Robert Aderholt

Here are the traitors

Defector01 on April 1, 2007 at 1:27 PM

So the Repubs meet first and say one thing and then Pelosi and the traveling clowns come behind and say something totally different but all of them are selling out their country.
Folks I don’t care what you feel about the war or Bush or anything else it is time to clean out Congress, both houses. They have gottne to where they believe they are above the law and they certainly don’t represent the people who elected them.
Throw all of them out and start over.

That is exactly the attitude that allowed us to get to this current state of affairs. Maybe it is true we got the goverment we deserved even if it isn’t the one we want.

LakeRuins on April 1, 2007 at 2:01 PM

Best thing that could happen???

These three overstepped their bounds over the Logan act… hope we have tapes…

Arrest these three immediatly. They are acting as foreign policy participants…

The Constitution must be observed… and this aint it.

Sooner or later one of these morons will be separated from his/her head. Will it be Bush’s fault?

RedWinged Blackbird on April 1, 2007 at 2:17 PM

I didn’t see the article mention the other Dems that went. Did I miss that?

President Reagan didn’t go and make all happy with Gorby during the Cold War. He still kept a firm hand and even harder rhetoric and backed it up with actions, like the SDI proposal. These guys need to be slapped in the face by President Reagan’s ghost; how insulting.

linlithgow on April 1, 2007 at 2:19 PM

Can’t we leave them there in exchange for the British hostages?

They’re only worth 1/5th of a human, anyway.

profitsbeard on April 1, 2007 at 2:34 PM

Th Logan Act must be one of those archaic laws that no one pays any heed to.

aengus on April 1, 2007 at 2:34 PM

I would love to see the look on Pelosi’s face if these three were indicted under the Logan act while she was still overseas.

We’d have a new “wide eyed Pelosi” shot to use. :)

Obviously, we’d have to indict Kerry and others who went there before, as well.

And just as obviously, we should only do so if in each case there is at least some evidence of an attempt to influence – if it was entirely fact-gathering they probably didn’t violate the act, at least in word if not in spirit.

Looks to me like the Republicans are just trying to pre-empt Abu Musab al Pelosi and her cronies.

Capitalist Infidel on April 1, 2007 at 3:08 PM

Just great. They’ve got no business being there either, and they’re providing cover for our enemies, foreign and domestic. It sure would be a beautiful thing if the Bush administration suddenly discovered the Logan Act–then these 3 would also be providing cover for Bush when he prosecuted them and Pelousi’s Treason Tour (TM) equally. That would make them a three-fer in terms of useful idiocy.

Of course if we were liberals, we’d be bending over backwards right now trying to justify how it’s okay for our people to do something bad, but not for the other side to do it. So at least we’re still better than they are. But then if we were liberals, we’d also think that treason is okay as long as the Democratic Party benefits politically.

You know, it’s been a VERY long time since I was able to say “I’m a Republican” without wincing inside.

This ain’t helping.

ccwbass on April 1, 2007 at 3:32 PM

I don’t believe the Logan Act refers to members of Congress. It’s hard to know since it’s never been used. Ever.

So are you moving to Colorado or Nevada?

Gwillie on April 1, 2007 at 4:03 PM

Useful idiots, you bet. The Associated with Terrorist “news” agency used the names of the RHINOs first in that article. Providing cover. How stupid can they be?

“We are following in the lead of Ronald Reagan, who reached out to the Soviets during the Cold War,” it added.

Wasn’t Ronald Reagan President, not some dim-witted congressman…

Zorro on April 1, 2007 at 4:12 PM

I didn’t a lot smiles on the faces of the Soviets after Reagan “reached out” to them, in fact it seemed to put them in a downright sour mood.

LakeRuins on April 1, 2007 at 4:20 PM

Man Bush has become a pussy… wait…. allow me to rephrase that.

Seriously though, why is he not threatening investigations for the, at the very least, borderline traitorous behavior?

RightWinged on April 1, 2007 at 4:48 PM

I can’t think of the words to express how this makes me feel right now…I grew up in the 30’s-40’s, am a Korean Vet and had a young cousin who never came back from VietNam…I’m sorry but I just do not understand these people…I hesitate to call them men because I don’t see a ‘man’ in the whole damn bunch…on either side of the aisle. We need to do something and soon.

DoctorDentons on April 1, 2007 at 4:54 PM

Not sure if this is big news, since House Republicans (when they were in the majority) have been going to Syria on these absurd trips for years. A frequent Republican visitor, for instance, has been Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) a/k/a Jihad Darrell, and he has vigorously praised Assad. And he claimed he was there at the behest of President Bush. That’s why Republicans are in no position to criticize Nancy Pelosi on this. (And Condi Rice has met with Assad several times, too.) They all suck up to the Assads, despite everything . . . and get nothing for it in return, but the continued scorn of the Arab street which is laughing at the pander bears.

Debbie Schlussel on April 1, 2007 at 5:03 PM

As long as these guys help libs, they’re untouchable.
Gonzales and the Justice Department should launch a massive cleaning ofthe House and Senate. If Republicans won’t stand up for the law in the name of bi-partisnaship, I won’t vote for them.

Well Said. I grew up in the 40’s and 50’s and DoctorDentons, while you and will not see it happen, I think we are seeing the beginning of the end of the USA as a free Republic. The Constitution is either under attack or ignored in too many instances.

It would seem that the only ones who realize we are at war are the troops in the field. I really thought, up until this week, that we would suceed in Iraq. Now I see no way. In fact for me the pendulum has swung the other way. Pull our troops out and lets get ready to fight the Islamo fascists in our streets. It will be awhile, but once they have sated their blood lust in Iraq they will come for us. It may even be 10 years from now since I think Europe is actually next on their list. They have made good progress in Africa and the jihad is almost to the self sustaining phase there. Give the jihadists credit for one thing, they never apologize and they never quit.

Was her visit on behalf of the president though? It’s one thing if it’s his foreign policy, the outrage here is only partly because of which country’s leader these people are visiting, the main issue is that they’re pushing their own shadow foreign policy, as AP called it. That’s the real problem here. It’s one thing to bicker at home, but you don’t go around the administration with your own foreign policy ideas outside our borders. This only stands to benefit our enemies.

I know how you feel. Last week I was SO upset, watching the Portland anti-American demos– seeing that 20 year old (or so)wearing a fake “suicide bomb backpack”—pooping on the flag- those people not only
BURNED the flag, but burned effigies of our soldiers, and sung songs hoping for their deaths—then one particular whackjob pulls his pants down and craps on the burning American flag—Lets not forget, he did this in front of little kids.He was wearing a fake suicde backpack. He was calling for the death of our troops.—I am sick about this–I keep saying—who was this guy,can we find him?? Can we make him uncomfortable at least?? Can’t we find him and pay him back?
I watched a video today of the Oakridge Boys, and one sang a song to his parents, both dead, both served in WW2—and it killed me thinking of what a country—we are leaving to our kids and grandkids, compared to what WE inherited..We went from a generation of non-complaining troops who did their job and came back to work hard and raise kids–and ended up with a generation of flag poopers.
I thank God for the men and women who still think we are worth defending.
I dont know if I can totally agree with them.

The White House is getting used like British Sailors…

…And British Sailors are getting used like a cheap whore in a dark alley.

You draw the conclusions, it’s basic logic.

Tim Burton on April 1, 2007 at 6:34 PM

Do we know these representitives did NOT have permission from the president? If he sent them, even without a public statement, they would be there on his authorita.

Why does this make me feel like that magnificent bastard rove had his hands in this?

Did they pre-empt pelosi’s trip to steal her thunder? Did Pelosi suddenly plan this trip the minute she found out some republicans were going over first?

What’s the difference? If a country is 1) on the State Dept. terrorist list, 2) harbors and welcomes every terrorist in the book, including the only living Munich terrorist, 3) allows insurgent terrorists to come in and out of Iraq to kill our troops, and 4) foments international assassinations of officials of a neighboring country it is trying to run through an Islamic terrorist group that murdered hundreds of Americans (Hezbollah), we frankly should NOT be there visiting them–regardless of whom our “visitors” are, unless they are assassins. Not Condi, not Nancy, not Jihad Darrell, not other GOP Congressman, period. None of them.

I’m not saying I agree with them going there, but if it’s on orders from the president, at least there’s justification by those making the visit. I won’t tell you what I think needs to be done, but it certainly doesn’t involve diplomacy. But I’m not the president. My point is, I agree with you that no one should be going there and talking, but those who go at the president’s request certainly have more business there than those who seek to undermine the president by having a separate foreign policy, and actively aiding the enemy by doing so.

If this keeps up, I’m going to start writing my short stories agian……….

(Cue the Music)

(Scene Opens) Moonlight plateau in the dessert, East of Damascus, the “whining” of a single jeep crossing the switch backs ascending the plateau.

(Camera Angle) Helicopter view overhead, in and out shots, as the jeep whips up dust in the moonlight dessert night.

(Tight Shot) A tent, wind blowing, torches flaming, flickering in the wind, an image is summoned by guards covered in dust, with scarf’s covering their faces…. (Faint radio traffic in the distance….. the cocking of guns)

(The Jeep Stops) Rustic man with battle scars steps off the jeep embraces his comrade……

(In a whisper) “Did she come?”

(Tears in his eyes) “Yes, by the “Grace of Allah”, Nancy Pelosi came………. “Victory is ours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

(In the back ground on the TV)

“We are all Muslims, trees, the Sun, and the Moon, and Global Warming, any part of “God’s Creation” is a Muslim!”

“What’s with the hat?”

PinkyBigglesworth on April 2, 2007 at 2:37 AM

Hey Pinky…I’ll buy the book.
