I’ve been a history teacher for 25 years and the books/curricula get worse every year. Every six years or so I have to choose the least boring textbooks available and then do color commentary chapter by chapter.

Check out “The Language Police” by Diane Ravitch for why this is happening. Brilliant book. Thank goodness I have virtual autonomy in what goes on in my classroom and every student has a laptop. Otherwise I’d retire. For those without such autonomy or academic freedom, it’s bad out there, really bad.

If they’re going to take out the Crusades and the Holocaust, there’s going to be some time to fill in British education, no? I suggest a new approach:

I like the Brits, but I can’t look at them too long, lest my admiration for their past turn into contempt for their present and pity for their future. The once-great, roaring British Lion has turned into a feeble, toothless tabby, passively waiting for someone to put it to sleep.

Not if they willingly give the country over to them. We all assume that there is squeal point even for stupid liberals but I’m starting to wonder if they hold any american values to be sacred. If that’s is the case, we, those of us here (including MM, Bryan, AP, and Ian), will become the extremists and outcasts of society.
