Pshaw. Google maps, downtown Roseville, CA.

Washington and Vernon. In the real world, they don’t intersect. In Google World, they do.

I did a wireless mapping gig that involved driving lots and lots of city streets – many missing roads (not just new construction), roads on the map that have never existed in the real world, blocked roads listed as connected, etc.

There was even a city block whose streets were rotated 90 degrees on the map.

Cartography appears to be a lost art.

Not only does the “Get Directions” not work from the West Coast, but the trip to Europe is always through Boston, MA and LaHavre, France even if you start in New York, Baltimore, New Orleans, or Miami or end in London.

I thought “Get Directions” is supposed to be the most direct route.

You swim from Miami. You don’t drive to Boston, then swim to LaHavre.

It may work for crossing the Atlantic, but it doesn’t work on the West coast. For example, it only says “We could not calculate driving directions between los angeles, ca and honolulu, hi.” Clearly, a case of West coast discrimination!!!
