Video: Ingraham asks Colmes, “Why are you carrying water for the mullahs?”
posted at 11:47 am on March 27, 2007 by Allahpundit
It’s early for red meat but we’ve had a few requests for this, so what the hey. Colmesy loves hisself some Baker Commission, doesn’t he? Let me drop this quote from that NYT article about Iranians killing American soldiers with EFPs to put you in the right frame of mind:
“The fact that Iran may be supplying lethal equipment is all the more reason to deal with them,” Lee H. Hamilton, a co-chairman of the [Baker Commission], said in an interview. “We do think it fortifies the case for engaging Iran.”
The more you kill, the more dialogue you get. Ah, the Arafat strategy.

Ha! I love how genuinely angered Colmes sounded at the end.

Holmes calls U.S. and British positions “speculation” but takes Iran’s statements at face value.
Then he gets upset that Laura calls him out on it.

This was great. Laura once again demonstrates that Liberals consider themselves world citizens first and Americans second.
Matticus Finch on March 27, 2007 at 12:08 PM
Heh, Laura really got the better of him. I love how Colmes always gets real bitchy when someone nails him with something like Laura does. Are you questioning my patriotism? Don’t you want peace?
I don’t know why I still watch H&C. Actually, I only watch when there’s nothing on. I shoulda just watched FutureWeapons, even though the host guy is a bit annoying, still, probably not as annoying as H&C themselves. Watching experimental military weapons blow stuff up is always fun to watch.
Bad Candy on March 27, 2007 at 12:10 PM
Colmes is the only reason I stopped watching the show. I don’t know why, but since he got married, he’s completely lost whatever minuscule moderation he might have had about anything. I cannot stand him, won’t watch him…period!

Love it! I enjoy listening to Laura; she has a firm grasp of what’s going on, and she’s able to stand up to the looney left without being abusive.

“Fortify” and “engaging” sound so warlike I mistook the meaning until I went back and considered the source. Maybe Hamilton will have us engage Iran by carpetbombing them with appeasements.

Heh, that had me confused in another thread. So now we have two dread pirate roberts…
Bad Candy on March 27, 2007 at 12:22 PM
I thought this was one of the most disgusting performance by Colmes in some time.
Will someone please press Colmes: if you walk into the conference room with the Iranians, just what specifically do you say? Pretty please, stop shipping IEDs into Iraq that kill and main U.S. soldiers and Marines? Pretry please, stop supporting the radical Shiites in Iraq seeking to undermine the democratically elected Iraqi government? Pretty please, stop threatening to blow Israel off the map? Pretty please, stop calling America the Big Satan and Israel the Little Satan? Colmes is idiotically equating talking to the Iranians with solving problems, when in fact: (i) there is no indication whatsoever of what talking will realistically accomplish; and (ii) talking to the Iranians only gives legitimacy to the Iranian behavior creating the problems. These were some of the many problems with the dead on arrival Baker-Hamilton Iraq Study Group recommendation to talk to Iran.
Quite frankly, I can do without Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity saying how they like Colmes when Colmes shoud be derided mercilessly as a present day Neville Chamberlaim. My older son is a U.S. Army first Lieutenant (with Ranger tab) serving in Iraq, and the constant threat to him and his fellow soldiers and Marines are IEDs supplied by Iran. So, my honest feeling is to tell Colmes that he is a disloyal, foolish scumbag.

How many acts of war does a country have to commit (sending ied’s and personnel into a war zone, kidnapping foreign military members) before liberals will actually want to go to war?
Capitalist Infidel on March 27, 2007 at 12:37 PM
I wish a Liberal would for once answer the question of why so much support for Iran. The taxes in Iran are oppressive but they don’t’ go to the general populace for their support or welfare. The money is going for the build up of the military and support of the huge religious governing group.
A world dominated by Islam: Gay? You’re dead. Adultery…dead, fornication…dead (NOW should be mad it’s usually the woman who gets it). Religious freedom? Dead or second-class status for anyone not Muslim… Abortion or a “woman’s right to choose? Fat chance… All the things liberals hold dear would get them killed!
There is enough information out there now that reveals that these people, who can’t be reasoned with (how do you reason with a man who is willing to die trying to kill us infidels cause he thinks he’s going to get 70 virgins out of it?), have a religious agenda to take over the world and they’ve been fighting for this in the most brutal way since forever.
Has a Liberal ever answered the question of what will happen when we pull out and Iran takes over Iraq? Can anybody think that the spread of Islam would be good for the west?
I stopped watching H&C a couple of years back because I got tired of the rudeness and all the screaming. Colmes’ never lets anyone finish what they are saying if he disagrees with them. I’ve been watching Glenn Beck lately. Though I don’t necessarily agree with all he says most I do.

Anybody ever watch Terry Gilliam’s Adventures of Baron Munchausen? The interaction between the “rational” mayor (played by Jonathan Pryce, btw) and the Sultan who is attacking him is so incredibly poignant vis: the liberal mindset in trying to appease Islam. I can’t do it justice in a post, and the film is hard to find. But if you’ve seen it, I bet you’re nodding along right now.

“Don’t you want peace?”
What a pile o fecal matter question from the Libs.
Peace only comes through victory ya pinhead.
WE do not want war, but neither do we want subjugation.
bbz123 on March 27, 2007 at 12:59 PM
Colmes’ line of argument is typical for the modern-day left/liberal: start with an ideologically and emotionally-based preconclusion, then work backwards through rationalizations to try to force it into some semblance of logic.
In this particular instance, Colmes begins with the underlying preconclusion that the Iranians’ behavior doesn’t arise from their own agenda, but is either spontaneous (i.e., the Iranian government can’t control rogue elements among the Revolutionary Guards), or reflexive (i.e., if only we’d talk with them more, they wouldn’t engage in unprovoked acts of war).
Then he proceeds to work backwards to rationalize his conlcusion, dismissing Laura’s agruments as “speculation” while building equally speculative excuses for the Iranians’ behavior.
You can tell that Laura really hit a nerve when she nailed him for “carrying the Iranians’ water for them,” because Colmes himself knew that was exactly what he was in effect doing: not because he’s “pro-Iranian,” so much as his ideology forbids him from admitting that critics of the Iranians’ behavior (who are largely aligned with political conservatism) could have a valid point.
To sum up Colmesian Reasoning:
“1. Bush bad;
2. Blair allied with Bush, so Blair bad, too;
3. Bush can do no right, so neither can anyone allied with him;
4. Iranians not good, but opposed to Bush/Blair, so they’re preferable to Bush/Blair in any confrontation between the two;
5. Iranians take Brisith hostages; but I can’t admit that Iranians bad for doing so, because it might make Bush/Blair look even a little bit right/good;
6. Ergo, must support Iranians’ side of the story;
7. And if anyone points out that I’m standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Iranian hostage-takers, I’ll deflect the criticism by pointing out that it’s OK because I’m not embracing them while I’m standing next to them.”
Dean Barnett today, in his posting, “An American War?” observes the same liberal ideological backwardness on Hugh Hewitt’s blog (http://hughhewitt.townhall.com/). It’s worth reading in entirety, but the upshot is:

I watched this last night, unfortunately during diner.
I have no frame of reference to try to comprehend where Allen Colmes comes from. It really boggles my mind. It’s like looking at the Sun (cause of global warming) during high noon, and this idiot would say it’s the middle of the night!
It appears to me that he won’t be happy until he has a leather choke collar on, a rubber ball in his mouth.
PinkyBigglesworth on March 27, 2007 at 1:02 PM
A. Colmes is too stupid to be on TV. An average grade school child has a better grasp on world issues than Colmesy. It used to be funny and entertaining. Now it’s just sad.

Colmes is a typical liberal – which means that he gets his opinions and positions based on the below line of thinking:
If a conservative takes a stance on something, a liberal has to take the opposite position on it because, despite how irrational it may seem, the conservative’s position on the issue is always the wrong one – it has to be because conservatives are hateful, evil people.
Rick on March 27, 2007 at 1:15 PM
When your opponent is self destructing, just stay the hell out of the way.
I think Colmes doesn’t even believe half of the shit he says. I mean, come on, can anyone really be that consistently stupid?
BacaDog on March 27, 2007 at 1:18 PM
Poor Alan. How can one be sooooo wrong and keep
a straight face ? ? ?
Texyank on March 27, 2007 at 1:19 PM
One of the points Laura was trying to make, and one which I think is very cogent, is why people like Alan, Rosie, et al, continue to carry water for people who, if they were to invade this country would kill them first simply for their beliefs and lifestyles (gay/lesbian, same sex marriages, stuff like that). Why would anyone defend, support, or enhance the humanity (Rosie’s whining about terrorists being people just like you and me) of a group think that would exterminate them without a thought? This is the very essence of stupidity and liberal think-speech. I am dumbfounded at their stupidity.

Steyn makes this point in his usual humorous manner by pointing out that (paraphrasing here), as a conservative male, if the Islamic fundamentalists were to get their wish and see the establishment of sharia in the United States, he would only have to grow his beard a little longer and marry an extra wife or two. It’s those on the left who would suffer most.
I understand quite well how they arrived at the mindset they display (the aforementioned conservatives are evil, therefore I stand against whatever they’re for, dynamic), when it overrides basic logic and rationality with the result of liberals like Colmes ‘carrying water’ for the likes of the mullahs, I must confess it never ceases to amaze me.
The sheer amount of intellectual dishonesty it takes is breathtaking.
As a former dem, Reagan’s “I didn’t leave the Democratic party, it left me” sentiment was ringing in my ears last evening as I watched this.
Citizen Duck on March 27, 2007 at 1:43 PM
Great comment, Glynn.
IF the Alans and Rosies of the world really think that talking will cure all, maybe they should be the first to volunteer as official “peace advocates” and fly to Tehran and Bagdad on a goodwill tour. You know, rent a hummer, drive around and talk to the folks.
BacaDog on March 27, 2007 at 1:53 PM
It’s their natural instinct of appeasement coming to the forefront.

…. and what’s with the “eye brow”?
PinkyBigglesworth on March 27, 2007 at 2:35 PM
.. That has been the standard formula for the liberals idea of peace in the middle east. Yet after decades of dialog, we’ve yet to experience any peace in the middle east and Iran has repeatedly interfered with the peace process.. Jut how much “dialog’ do we have to endure, just how many hostages does Iran need to capture, just how many people have to die before the liberals say enough?
Iran is ruled by madmen and you never have peace with people like that. They want to control the middle east (and eventually the entire world) and will stop at nothing until they do. Why is that so hard for “peaceful” liberals to understand? There is no peace when someone wants to kill you! Just ask the Israelis about that.

It is best Hannity stays out of debates, probably the worst conservative debater on TV.
Laura took Colmes apart and called him on carrying the water. It should be said more often of these stupid leftists.
I hope Hannity took some notes on how to debate, one of them is COME PREPARED.

Why? Because the theocracy of the mullahs is the lesser of two evils. Bush is worse than they are in the “non-judgemental” (or just mental) minds of Alan and his lefty friends. Don’t worry, Iran doesn’t REALLY wanna nuke that theocracy Israel, even though they deserve it. But Bush DOES wanna nuke the world, therefore he’s worse. Life must really suck to those idiots.
Nice work Laura, as usual.

Mojave Mark on March 27, 2007 at 6:21 PM
When I heard Alan ask Laura the question which prompted Laura to finally ask Alan “Why are you carrying water for the mullahs,” Alan had such a look of hurt in his face and eyes that I actually felt rather sad for him.
He really looked hurt, like a poor, little grade school boy who was just put down by either another student in front of the whole class, or was put down by the teacher in front of the entire class.
Very sad to see.

The mullahs and ayatollahs got their marching orders from the Mahdi, so talking to them is meaningless.
They are mesmerized homicidal fatalists.
Destroying them is what needs doing.
