Widow of Madrid bombing victim wears Mohammed cartoon t-shirt to trial

posted at 3:05 pm on March 26, 2007 by Allahpundit

I’m speechless at the sheer awesomeness of it.

A woman who lost her husband in the 2004 Madrid train bombings displayed an infamous cartoon mocking the Prophet Mohammad on her T-shirt in front of 29, mostly Muslim, suspects on trial for the attacks on Monday.

The woman’s white T-shirt showed Mohammad wearing a bomb as a turban — one of a series published by Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten which unleashed violent protests by some Muslims last year…

The woman sat in the front row of the court wearing the T-shirt for around half-an-hour before getting up, walking up to the glass cage containing the defendants and finally walking out of the court, judicial sources said.

The judge asked security to identify her as she left the courtroom. Whether that was for her own protection or because she broke some European speech law, the article doesn’t say. Both, probably.

No photos yet. Keep an eye out.

Update: Hooray.

Initially, [the judge] thought the woman could been a relative of one of the 29 accused and thought she might have put some kind of message on her T-shirt…

The T-shirt was a copy of the cartoons showing Mohammed on top of a bomb which were first printed by a Danish magazine and which caused disturbances in Muslim countries around the world.

The judge decided the woman was free to wear what she liked and could come back to the court if she wished.

Maybe there’s still hope.

RedWinged Blackbird on March 26, 2007 at 3:08 PM

It’s nice to see that *somebody* in still has cajones in Spain! Too bad it has to be a woman. Way to go Spain, your men are nutless and now it’s up to the women to defend Western Civilization.

Tony737 on March 26, 2007 at 3:09 PM

My favorite shirt is the smily face with Mohammeds bomb turban. Caption is “Happyness is freedom of speech”
I need to get the real deal though

Wyrd on March 26, 2007 at 3:13 PM

Impressive.

Esthier on March 26, 2007 at 3:18 PM

Hooray for her… nice to see that she is brave enough to stand up for her ideals.

dalewalt on March 26, 2007 at 3:19 PM

I would give anything to see the rabid dogs behind the glass cage barking and howling. Rub their pig hating noses in it.

Kini on March 26, 2007 at 3:20 PM

Balls.

Giant, gold-plated, lead-lined, sheer unmitigated balls.

God I love the real heroes.

Awesomeness, indeed.

Resistance to the Islamofacist in Europe. I am speechless.

omegaram on March 26, 2007 at 3:21 PM

I hope she has a t-shirt with each of the cartoons, and that she sits in the front row every day of the trial.

KelliD on March 26, 2007 at 3:24 PM

Now that is the way to do things.
Plus, actually having the courage to antagonize people that WOULD actually kill you.

More courage than all the Spanish politicians combined. A sliver of hope for Spain.

liberty on March 26, 2007 at 3:32 PM

That’s great! I hope more of the victims’ families start doing this.

So Charles Martel still has family in Europe. That’s a positive.

I’m thinking this is a prime example of Michelle’s favorite word. Not only does this woman have a set, but they are HUGE!

Bravo

A little glimmer of hope.

Take care sll

At least SOMEBODY in Europe isn’t interested in de-escalation.

Reuters…and

MADRID – The widow of a man killed in the Madrid bombings attended the trial of Islamic radicals with a cartoon of the prophet Mohammed with a bomb on her T-shirt.

Expatica, the facts and just the facts, not that ‘sensitivity’ PC ‘infamous’ BS.

My favorite cartoon, as previously posted, is the 5th one, down “sorry, we ran out of virgins“. Scroll down a bit to see.

Unfortunately, very much indeed, is the fact that these cartoons are no longer available for viewing on the Danish Jyllands-Posten site. “Hurrah, we capitualted”.

This lady and the judge have muchos cojones grandes!!!

Entelechy on March 26, 2007 at 3:43 PM

Now that would be something, Kini. Too bad they kept their cool and didn’t foam at the mouth and scream death threats to her and the judge.

Of course now they will declare “mohammed abuse” or some sort of crap like that in an attempt to keep anyone from making fun of their religion.

BacaDog on March 26, 2007 at 3:43 PM

If this woman is a raven-haired photogenic Spanish woman in her early 30s, she will be all over the photo newswires.

ScottMcC on March 26, 2007 at 3:49 PM

interesting, a Sapniard with balls.

What difference does it make if Jyllands-Posten dropped it? Its all over the place now, there’s no need. Symbolically, it might make a nice FU to the jihadis, but now the pic is everywhere, so there are millions in place of that one paper to give an FU to the jihadis. They won.

How do you say “I will not submit” in Spanish? I don’t know (I barely speak English), but that woman definitely knows. Good for her. Hopefully she’ll be the Rosa Parks of anti-dhimmitude.

ReubenJCogburn on March 26, 2007 at 4:22 PM

Texas would be proud to call her citizen. Come on over lady.

Limerick on March 26, 2007 at 4:24 PM

Why do I get the feeling we won’t see the pic.

For those that forgot what the Mad Bomber Mohammad looks like, I did archive it.

The Spanish media won’t have the guts to publish a picture of her wearing the shirt. They are afraid they’ll be riots.

Bravo for her.

I’d be shocked to see any European papers publish it. Maybe Jyllands-Posten?!

They won.

Bad Candy on March 26, 2007 at 3:57 PM

Bad Candy, I’m assuming that you mean that Jyllands-Posten won – I see it differently – the Danish government and the Posten did give in to the protesters, threats and PC…it was a capitulation of free speech in Danemark, and really here too – because few here dared to print them. In addition, the authors had to go underground.

Entelechy on March 26, 2007 at 6:10 PM

This woman should have a parade named in her honor.

As well as applauding this brave woman, I also applaud the Judge. He had both the presents of mind to be suspicious of any activity around these guys and to do something about it, then once learning the truth, he acted wizely again.

In Europe this is not stating the obvious. Thank G-d we have a Bill of Rights, unlike these poor EU saps.

Boy are they going to be confused in Hollywood the first time some sharia-infected Eurabian country puts someone to death for being homosexual. Our darling oppressed Muslims did WHAT??? I would be watching the View the next day just to see Rosie’s head explode.
