[...] Speaking of Al Qaeda, they’re working on a trend of their own. I wrote a few weeks ago about rumors of mentally disabled kids being used in jihadi attacks. As it turns out, it’s not a rumor. Bear in mind, this is a UN news agency report, not something from Centcom: The dreams 13-year-old Barak Muhammad (not his real name) had of leading a normal teenage life were dashed when his father sold him to al-Qaeda militants. Being mentally handicapped, he said he was considered a burden by his family and was told he would be better off sacrificing his life for his country… [...]

[...] What they’re trying to do here, very clearly, is show the surge isn’t working by demonstrating that even the safest part of the city is more vulnerable than it’s been. That’s why they’ve been focusing more on the Green Zone in the past few weeks. It started with the rocket attack during Maliki’s presser with Ban Ki-Moon, then another rocket attack killed an American soldier, then they found two suicide vests somewhere in the area. The fact that the bomber attacked in the cafeteria instead of the main assembly hall, where he could have done a lot more damage, makes me think he was probably a menial employee, not someone in an MP’s security detail (although I wouldn’t be surprised if I was wrong). Assuming they did a diligent job with the dogs as people were coming in, it also means the bomb was hidden somewhere in the building before the doors opened this morning. [...]

Hello? Guess this thread is pretty much dead. Just bouncing around the threads; this one ended at a total of 14 nine hours ago. Personally, I got to say I'm disappointed. A subject such as this gets 14 comments, yet anything some jackass like Rosie O'Donnell says -- especially Rosie O'Donnell -- is guaranteed to get over a hundred. Pretty much sums things up as far as the American state of affairs goes, doesn't it?

Using kids to retrieve weapons/ammo or as a human shield are tactics used by the Somali militia in the early 90's. This is not new.

Once again taking the rights from women leads to deaths.

Do underaged kids who are killed get 72 virgins, also?

And, if so, what do they do with them?

Play video games and skateboard in Posthumous MahdiWorld?

Some Imam probably has an answer.

(Which shows the true depth of the soul-sickness that is Islam.)

Do-gooders around the world, organized by The United Nations Children's Fund - UNICEF, will protest these acts, by the thousands in each major city, next Sunday. Not.

how brave of them

-on a more serious note: I would say that I'm disgusted with using children as ways to get pass checkpoints and to pick up weapons, but given it's (how do I say this without seeming callous)... regularity, it's just another day in Iraq. For me to be disgusted with barbaric behavior such as that described by the US officials in the article, it would have to come as a surprise... know what I mean?

I'm sure if I were there witnessing such acts it would disturb me a great deal. but reading about it and knowing there really isn't a way to change the type of enemies we face or change the minds of those anti-war protestors, I feel more or less withdrawn from the whole "oh my God, how could they do that", routine.

I guess I'm one 'disgusting' story away from adopting the 'kill em all' mentality. becuase everytime I think of the situation in Iraq or in the war on terror that line from Syriana always jumps to mind:

They think that a hundred years ago you were living in tents out here in the desert chopping each other's heads off and that's where you'll be in another hundred years

And the Gent knocks it right outta the park!

One time I saw a cartoon on Lucianne that showed a Pali with an AK-47 hiding behind a baby carriage, he was aiming at an Israeli soldier who was aiming back with an M-16, but he was in *front* of a baby carriage. How perfect is that?

What's so difficult, Phil Byler,is that to acknowledge such things would mean that they would have to do something about it . So much easier to rail on and on about "atrocities" at Gitmo and Abu Ghraib.

It takes guts to look the devil in the eye; more guts, I'm afraid, then the American people on a whole can muster any longer.

Will try again.Where the hell has everybody been on this?Using women and children as shields, strapping bombs to children -- yes, even retarded children -- have been common tactics of this enemy for years.

Like the last few days have seen the shocking stories about Palestinians teaching their children to kill Americans and Jews and training them to be suicide bombers. Again, old news. Where the hell has the media and a large portion of the population of this country been?

Maybe they need to start rebuilding Iraqi soccer and have the Sunni/Shia thing hashed out on the field (with proper security of course). I mean soccer is known as "War by other means." Then the violence would be down to everyday European standards :)
