I wish he would quit referring to Sufism as “a very liberal form of Islam.” While a number of hippie “converts” to Islam today who think they are Muslims (but actually practice almost none of it–for example, actress Ellen Burstyn) and act moderate, identify themselves as “Sufi,” it bears almost no resemblance to Sufi Islam. Real Sufi’ism is anything but “a very liberal form of Islam.” Just ask Saladin. Anyone who refers to Sufism as “a very liberal form of Islam” is actually quite ignorant on Islam and very uninformed about its past. Andrew Bostom and Robert Spencer would agree with me on this point, as both have written on it, as have I. A recent Wall Street Journal column made the same points as well.

Wake up America. What is it going to take? ABC? NCB? CBS?

Is he still a Muslim? Or has he taken up a different religion? Does anyone know? I agree with Debbie’s point-it is unusual that he refers to Sufism as being very liberal. Perhaps in comparison to Wahabism? He says it’s more mystical a number of times as well.

He’s a Christian.

Maybe will wake up after the next terrorist attack. It’ll be much bigger.

Excellent interview. These insights should be aired on our main stream media. The public needs to see and understand how radical islam thinks.

As PRCalDude says, Daveed is a Christian now.

I have nothing to say except that I enjoyed the interview. Thanks.

Wait…I thought the “fired US Attorneys” story was the important issue of today’s news cycle. Why are you wasting bandwidth on this stuff?
You have upset me. Now I have to go take a supplemental dose of soma.
Concern over radical Islam is so yesterday.

Thanks for doing this interview. I just finished (and loved) his book, so it was nice to get some answers to my questions.

….allowing a little time for the sarcasm to wear off….
It’s hard to stay hopeful about the survival of the West after viewing Allahpundit’s post on “Palestinian zombies run child-bomber PSA” and then viewing this interview. The good news is that Mr. Gartenstein-Ross finds some positive reception for his book among some moderate American muslims.
The bad news is I have to hear about Palestinian child-bomber recruitment TV spots on a political blog instead of via ABC, NBC, CNN, or Fox.
Perhaps Michelle can do something about the “Fox” part of the problem. I hope so.

Fascinating interview, Michelle.
As far as Sufism goes, the only individual I knew (through the Internet only) who claimed to be a Sufi, described himself as Sufi-lite. He was a member of The Theosophical Society and followed what could be described as the One World Spirituality espoused by the U.N. and enabled by the Lucis Trust, etc.
It was actually because of his ideas and the fact that the U.N. is so blatantly pro-Arab (Islamic/not Christian) that I started studying Islam.

The last scene is the reason why the left can never be allowed to control foreign policy. They are suicidally narcissistic, incapable of dealing with reality without projecting their own ideology onto every policy decision.
