Oh, long shall this glorious moment of fightin’ fightiness live in the annals of nutroots fighty fightingdom! I’ll pass on the obvious observation about what the reaction would have been if a Republican had pulled this kind of power trip on a Democrat and ask you instead to imagine it with the gender roles reversed. Not just the reaction in the hearing room, either; listen closely at the very end here and you’ll catch CNN anchor Don Lemon muttering “good for her” under his breath.
Thanks to Cory D. for the tip. Exit question: Is Boxer always this abrasive or is it only when the cameras are on?
Update: Made me laugh.
Update: JPod watched Inhofe’s questioning of Gore and says Boxer’s got him dead to rights.

Same ol story- only let dummocrats and enviromental “prophets” speak. Anyone that doesn’t toe the line with these envirofreaks is totally shut down, even if they are an expert in the field. Boxer sickens me. Only a dummocrat could be this rude.
Vanquisher on March 21, 2007 at 5:44 PM
With the exception of Inhofe, what is bothering the mainstream GOP about this is that they are not in power to tell us what to do with our lives in combatting so-called man-induced climate change.

Damn it!! It is time for everyone on this side of the aisle to acknowledge what everyone knows: the tinfoil hatted leftist loons are rude, crude, profound, and deserve absolutely no respect! We need to stand up even if these “elected” officials won’t. I am calling Boxer’s office and letting them know how I feel. How about the rest of you? It is time we spoke up and made sure they all hear us.
sharinlite on March 21, 2007 at 6:01 PM
Inhofe said he would ask for a written response on that question. He didn’t ask the question and then interrupt Al Gore later. He didn’t jump in when Gore was answering a Republican question and say, “Mr Gore, could you please speak at least as quickly as you did when you were answering Democrat questions?”
He simply said that the answer would be a long one, so he’d ask for it in writing.
Then, Senator Boxer makes a big production of telling him to “let the Vice President answer”. Firstly, is it common to refer to former-VPs simply as “the Vice President”? I thought it was always “former-Vice President”, but I may just be nit-picking. Secondly, I thought the rule was that you get to ask the questions in your 5 minutes. He didn’t want a spoken answer to the first question because he only had 5 minutes for his questions and answers. Far from “way to go”, she comes across as ignorant and power-trippy.
Finally, she promised him as much time as he needed if he would just let the Vice President answer. Yet, if I recall correctly from the open thread, she denied his request for extra time. Boxer lied and penguins died!

I seem to recall that Victoria Toensing recently was not allowed to answer the questions that were being put to her, but that was okay. It gets harder and harder to stomach the hypocrisy from the left, in congress and msm.

The format of the hearing is wrong, nobody will be able to pin Al Gore down with only five minutes. Of course the Democrats know this and that is why the hearing is set up this way.
Maxx on March 21, 2007 at 6:58 PM
Coach Denny Hastert “agrees with Gore that the scientific debate on climate change is over.” This is patently false- most of the GOP elite agree with the nitwittery of man-induced climate change. They want to do something now to save the planet and are upset they are out of power to regulate us.
Valiant on March 21, 2007 at 7:06 PM
Oh, the old change the rules in the middle of the checkers game.
The GOP needs more offensive people with talent. One has to have a sharp wit and tongue to deal with this business. Gore has no credentials and flunked college in non-science studies. Let him blabbler on about things he knows nothing about, then hit him with the technicals and watch him fold.
BTW, some study showed that IF all the ice caps melted, and the sea rose to flood Florida, Long Island (the glacial debris piles from the last ice age) and a few other low-laying areas, the Earth would have a net gain in useable land mass. WHy? Antarctica would emerge from under its ice cap, and be habitable. In fact, the continent (which has mountains) would rise even higher due to the lifting of the pressure of all that ice weighing it down right now. All those poor slobs who had to sell their beachfront property could buy coastal digs in Antarctica, in fact more people could have beachfront homes, because of the access to more available coastline. Yeh, bring it on. Oh, since the North Pole is one big floating ice cube, the displacement of that ice is already factored into the current ocean levels. Only ice currently on land that melts into the seas would have any measurable effect. The Earth would have to warm up more than 100 degrees in the Polar winters to even approach 33 degrees, melting point. Not a single Global Warming scenario promotes that kind of number.

gatewaypundit on March 21, 2007 at 7:32 PM
Sweet. Considering that 80% of all Democrats probably live in one of NYC, LA, DC, Boston, etc, I can see why a typical red-stater is not so bothered by all this.
I just cannot wait for the Co2 rise lags temperature rise meme to slowly seep into the public consciousness. It reminds of the giddy hours while we waited for Rathergate fraud to find it way from LGF to Drudge to WaPo. “Lucy, you’ve got some ’splainin to do.”

Senator Inhofe was using his time in a perfectly legitimate way. You may not have liked the question he asked or the fact that he said he would ask for a written answer instead of an oral answer; however, he’s within his rights as he only has 5 minutes.
Senator Boxer was upbraiding a colleague for something he hadn’t even done. The manner in which she did it was uncalled for (unless Senator Inhofe is actually Senator Boxer’s 5 year old child and no one told me). The comment about him no longer having the gavel and elections having consequences was a petty. And, when she said, and I quote, “let the Vice President answer your questions and then, if you want an extra few minutes at the end, I’m happy to give it to you” was a flat out lie as, since, when they requested more time for Senator Inhofe, it was denied.
JadeNYU on March 21, 2007 at 8:22 PM
If that gasbag had said to me “elections have consequences”, I would have said, “And no one knows that better than the liar sitting in front of us. Right, Mr. Gore?”.

elections have consequences?
Indeed.
As a Concequence of his election, Senator Inhofe has a duty to represent the interests of his constituents, and an Al Gore Junk-Science Love-Fest is in no one’s interest except for luddites.
Jones Zemkophill on March 21, 2007 at 8:59 PM
Yes, she is overbearing. I’m not disagreeing with you (indeed, I find her insufferable), I’m just making light of the situation. Inhofe made a smarty comment directed at Gore’s, shall we say, lack of brevity and Boxer verbally smacked him. Honestly, don’t you see the comedy in this whole thing?

ronsfi on March 21, 2007 at 9:06 PM
He had 5 minutes to question him, Gore was stalling and wasting time so he did not have to answer any more questions. Boxer promised more time and than reneged. I missed the comedy of a Democrat trying to cover for someone trying to keep from telling the truth.
I’ve got the gaaaavel, and youuu don’t haaaave itttt. Nah nah nah.
That is your leader SD, live with her.

Ranked as one of the most partisan Senators in congress.
right2bright on March 21, 2007 at 9:21 PM
Boxer, like Gore, is another ultra rich ultra liberal who wants the rest of us to assume the yoke of their confiscatory taxes and regulations while they go on about their merry way living life to the hilt. They are a cancer on our country.
Labamigo on March 21, 2007 at 9:23 PM
Technically she is correct. You refer to a politician by the highest office that they achieved. I believe that Zell Miller actually liked to be refered to as “Governor” even when he was a senator.
Having said that, too bad Inhofe wasn’t quick enough to reply, “You’re right! Elections have consequences which is why this bozo is schlocking a crappy movie rather than serving in office.”
BTW, Gore should really try to come up with a better expression than the “I’m constipated and happy about it” look he had–especially if you’re having a woman (harpie?) defending your honor. Get a pair, dude, or at least ask Tipper for your old ones back.

Romeo13 on March 21, 2007 at 9:37 PM
The congressional climate is more like a rainforest - dominated by out-of-control monkeys. Rules don’t seem to matter anymore, unless they do. Elections have consequences, unless you don’t like the results, then you impeach to “un-do” the results.
These dems are a bunch of childish, immature, dishonest hypocritical maniacs, and I’m embarassed for our country that they hold any power…even if it is only until the next election!

Although I wince at the thought of lending any credit to the Screecher of the House, she was right. Inhofe was attempting to do one of his typical arrogant hatchet jobs on the Goreacle. Actually, no - if he had actually gotten the recounts he wanted in his suit that was before the SCOTUS, he still would have lost. I don’t recall exactly where I read this, but out of seven recount scenarios, only two had Gore winning, and both were based on districts and types of recounts that he hadn’t requested. The ones he had requested actually had Bush picking up even more votes.
The left has never understood this.

Goddamn, did they pass out gavels to everyone on inauguration day or what?
“I accept this gavel in the spirit of partnership, not partisanship,” Pelosi said.
Pelosi, Boxer, Frank and Waxman are all vying for The Golden Gavel award.
I thought the Lewinsky days were behind us, but they apparently passed out kneepads along with those gavels. “The chair humbly requests permission to raise her eyes and gaze upon the Prophet Gore, peace be upon him.”

Exactly. It’s boorish to act the bully when you’re in the majority; it’s idiocy to attempt to do so when you’re not.
Goracle really gets under the RW’s skin, doesn’t he? He’s got a dizzying approval rating (that whole Banquo’s ghost thing), and wide acceptance for his cause politically, scientifically, and increasingly, from the business community.

I couldn’t agree more!
On several issues I have sent emails to these guys and on all occasions I have received either a reply (not a form letter but something directly addressing a specific topic) or a phone call when they are back in OK. I can not say enough about these two guys, they are true Sooners and they give me hope that our country will not go down the crapper.
As for the higher culture, to hell with the rest of the country. Culture to me is working in the oil patch, cow crap on my boots, my Winchester 93 in the pickup window. Inhofe was great! His constant references to “his time” was an obvious and deserving shot at the Algore for skirting all of the commitee rules all day long!
Good job Senator! At least SOMEONE on the Right is fighting back about something, ANYTHING, geez!
Also…I would love to see these two (Algore panel vs Inhofe panel) debate global warming!!
OSUBuciz1 on March 22, 2007 at 8:18 AM
Inhofe was rockin’ the mic on Bill Bennett’s radio show this morning, listing seven of the points he made that Al didn’t bother to refute. The audio might be online later today.
Didn’t you hear yesterday? “The debate is over.” You missed it. It won’t be repeated. Every scientist in the world agrees.
I’d like to see Al Gore debate anyone on global warming. Bjorn Lomborg and Lord Monckton keep calling him out but he won’t do it.

That said, let me point out, that we address ALL “ex” presidents, and “ex” vice-presidents, by the title of the office they once held…I’m pretty sure, we extend this courtesy to senators and even mayors.
We do this, out of love and respect for our Country, and what it stands for…Not because of politics or ideology.

I have no love for Gore, but there is no such thing as an ex-vice president or ex president. They are vice president forever and president forever. They are just not serving the country. It is still (shudder) President Carter. It honors the position, not the person.
right2bright on March 22, 2007 at 1:18 PM
So which tribe do you belong to?
Do I need to provide a CDIB card for your review? The point of my carpetbagger comment was the last oil boom we had in OK was in early 80’s, about the same time Detriot was suffering. We had jobs in the oil patch and the laid off union auto workers came down in droves for jobs. Not the most productive bunch of guys I’ve worked with since the oil patch isn’t unionized. Along with it they brought their values that have IMO not been what I or the people that I know want for OK. They complained about everything right up to the oil bust, when they left. Don’t let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out of town I say. I love OK and I won’t leave it.
