It seems St John’s political beliefs provide for two huge melting pots: one leans slightly to the left; the other leans slightly to the right. This only shines a glaring light on the fact he is out of touch with the underlying conservative beliefs of the Republican party. Call him a RINO? Why, yes. Well, expressing sympathy for Chafee is not going to win McCain any points with the base, who for the most part are glad to see Chafee go–not that McCain seems to care a whole lot about the base.

I really hope McCain’s not pondering an independent run. He’s a traitor to the party in many ways, but surely he’s not THAT much of a traitor to just hand the election over to the Dems. Which is, of course, clearly what would happen if he ran as an independent. He’d split the pro-war vote, leaving the entire anti-war vote to the Dems.

Bryan, great find. The more and more I see of the “front runners,” the more and more I am adamant the Fred Thompson MUST run! Can you imagine a ticket with Thompson/Hunter? or even Thompson/Tancredo? That’s a pure R. Lee Ermey combo right there! LOVE it!
