Hilarious, yet equally as awful:

But seriously, anyone who has a cat could see what was coming. Cats let you know wether or not holding is allowed.

Buck Turgidson on March 17, 2007 at 11:06 AM

Got that right, Buck. Jiggle Kitty and she’ll definitely give out some love taps.

Dusty on March 17, 2007 at 11:19 AM

Sad thing is thats my local newscast. No wonder I need the alt-media.

Buck Turgidson on March 17, 2007 at 11:23 AM

Serious cat scratches hurt. Bad. I think it was pretty impressive that she could be scratched on the face and still keep her composure enough to end the segment.

Buck Turgidson on March 17, 2007 at 11:06 AM

I could see that coming from a mile away. The reporter was holding the cat too low across the stomach which is uncomfortable for the cat. Calicos also don’t have the sweetest personalities (understatement).

januarius on March 17, 2007 at 11:27 AM

I’m allergic to cats, but that’s not why I don’t care for them.

tdau1997 on March 17, 2007 at 11:36 AM

Translation on what the cat was saying goes like this…MeowwAAARRARawwwraaaaawwwwwwwwwwaaaAAAaabitch.

Which means “Oh great I go some bimbo with the smell of Poodle on her exploiting me so she can get good ratings…Where is Peta when I need them??!! Take that you Dog Loving Bitch!!”

It sounded like the reporter was about to cry…

And they wonder why these people threw the cats out the car window.

Of course, I would never torture an animal or kill it in such a mean way, but I understand why one might want to get rid of a cat. I personally despise cats in general. Too much attitude for such a worthless creature.

Decoy256 on March 17, 2007 at 11:59 AM

Dogs: Blind Devotion, you can see it in their eyes
Cats: Serious Attitude, you can feel it in their claws

fogw on March 17, 2007 at 12:01 PM

Didn’t even need video to tell what was going to happen. When a cat starts with that guttural drawn out meowing(?) get your hands and face a safe distance away. That cat was mad. She did a pretty good job of keeping her composure as she was being clawed though.

still468 on March 17, 2007 at 12:01 PM

Personally, I love cats. 5 or 6 will make a nice sized rug.

BacaDog on March 17, 2007 at 12:04 PM

A Dog looks at you and thinks, “He feeds me, shelters me, and gives me praise. He must be god!”

A Cat looks at you and thinks, “He feeds me, shelters me, praises me, and gives me toys. I must be god!”

Mazztek on March 17, 2007 at 12:12 PM

but seriously, I love cats. Terriyaki style, beer barttered… They’re Delicious!

Mazztek on March 17, 2007 at 12:13 PM

Oh, she was definitely asking for it. I’m not going to Monday morning QB here, but that’s not a way I would be holding a cat.

Ian on March 17, 2007 at 12:19 PM

Heh, this funny cat sounds like an old crank-siren. Let’s shake it around and see what happens – duh.

The Ritz on March 17, 2007 at 12:21 PM

This little guy’s having fun

NO HE ISN’T.

The sort of thing you just want to scream at the monitor for her to let go of the damn thing. And yet I still feel sorry for the girl. Everyone forgets how much those things can hurt

Following on from that, I’m still amazed at how people let their cat(s) get away with that sort of attitude. A few clips under the ear at an early age and I haven’t heard that sort of meow from my cat in over 6 years, tbh..

Yeah, squid. I’m not sure there would have been a way to humanely deal with that cat. Here’s one that seems to provide a good suggestion.

tdau1997 on March 17, 2007 at 12:32 PM

I prefer cats to dogs. Easy to litter train, they don’t bark all night, they don’t need to be walked, and they have the perfect size and temperament for curling up in your lap. They can be hard on your furniture if you don’t get them declawed, and they shed a lot. And it’s not a good idea to pick up a strange cat. Ignore them and they’ll come to you.

packsoldier on March 17, 2007 at 12:35 PM

Folks are weird I am surprised that no one has come out with the old comparison that Conservatives are Dog People, and Liberals are Cat people.

Guess I am weird too though cuz’ I Like ‘Em both eventhough I have severe cat allergies. I like them.

They are different creatures and have very different generalized personalities, but I think both are Lovable.
This lady probably got nervous when the camera came on and started holding the cat wrong, and was too focused on the report and not enough on the cat. that Meow was clear “I am gonna make you say OW!”

I saw this on the soup last night. If that cat scratched me in the face, it’d punt it out the window.

lorien1973 on March 17, 2007 at 1:28 PM

That cat gave plenty of warning.
My hair stood up just listening to it!

Reporters are teh stoopids.

Nethicus on March 17, 2007 at 1:33 PM

I have two cats and a Doberman. It is true that cats have attitudes, but the nice thing about cats is that they don’t require much care, unlike dogs.

Buck Turgidson on March 17, 2007 at 11:06 AM

I know, that thing might as well have gotten down, stood on it’s hind legs and said “I’m going to kill you!”… What about the noise it was making made her think that “little guy” was “having fun”?

Serious cat scratches hurt. Bad. I think it was pretty impressive that she could be scratched on the face and still keep her composure enough to end the segment.

Troy Rasmussen on March 17, 2007 at 11:24 AM

I beg to differ, I think it was a live broadcast and they cut away and that this video was spliced together from when they went back to her to finish the story later. She certainly didn’t have her composure when she began to cry like a 3 year old who tripped and scraped her knee. That was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. I’d like to know who she was looking at off camera when she started to cry. Seriously, it was just like a child… Like when a child gets hurt, if you tell them quick enough “you’re tough, you’re okay right!?”, generally they’ll be fine, but if you stare and wait to see their reaction or baby them in any way they’ll scream and cry because they get attention. That’s what this girl did… through the entire even of being massacred she was fine, then she looked off camera and begain bawling.

This may not be as good as the GMA broad canoeing in ankle deep water, and getting busted on national television when some dudes walk buy in boots.. but it’s up there with classic news bloopers in my book.

At any rate, I suppose it could have been worse…

Squid, I spent a half hour this morning looking for that Pinky the cat video. Why anyone would own one of these miscreants is beyond me.

Valiant on March 17, 2007 at 2:01 PM

The noises coming from that cat should’ve been a clear indication it was unhappy but the lady wanted her little fuzzy “prop” and she got a claw tipped smack for it. She’s lucky actually. I’ve seen various footage of people who got clawed much worse than the quick incident this lady endured.

I gew up with dogs and have 2 cats(a faux russian blue and a dilute part siamese tortie) .
I learned at a very early age that if an animal is growling it doesn’t want you to pick it up.
If you ignore that warning you get what you deserve.
The Callie was clearly sending out a signal.
It’s not her fault that the human was a bimbo.

Buck Turgidson on March 17, 2007 at 11:06 AM

My wife and I thought the same when we watched this news item on television late last night or early in the morning, after midnight.

We have a cat, and we’ve had multiple cats before some of them passed away. We could not understand why the news woman did not release the cat when the cat was behaving in that manner. We would have known better and released the cat and avoided the scratch.

Perhaps I should hire myself out as a cat wrangler!

No, no WM, cats are like women and dogs are like men.

I own both and they are adorable, for different reasons. The black cat plays with shadows on the wall. I’ve become expert at inventing new figures/games to keep him entertained. He never tires of it. He rules the roost.

Entelechy on March 17, 2007 at 4:46 PM

The cat was warning her. He wasn’t being mean. If he had been there would have been more than a few little marks on her face. You can see how he doesn’t have his claws out when he pats her hair.

You own men and women? I thought that was illegal?

Just kidding ;)

RedinBlueCounty on March 17, 2007 at 6:07 PM

Okay, even if I grant her the “I was in reporter mode, so I wasn’t focused on the sounds the cat was making,” or even that she’s simply “not a cat person” and somehow didn’t have a clue that the sound the cat was making meant it was PO’ed, not “having fun,” I still have to wonder if no-one else around the reporter (crew? shelter workers?) felt the need to try to wave their arms frantically at her and gesture for her to put the cat down before this happened. She didn’t mention in the follow-up segment that anyone had tried to warn her. Are these people masochists, that they apparently jsut waited calmly for the cat to slash her when it was completely obvious to anyone who’s ever interacted with a cat that that is exactly what was about to happen? That’s just mean, to both the human and the cat. What if the cat had gotten the reporter in the eye? Sheesh.

I love cats. This wasn’t the cat’s fault at all. I’m glad they followed up to show that the cat is far from a feral, vicious beast.

aero on March 17, 2007 at 6:09 PM

I’ve had some great psycho cats. One loved sneak attacks and would hide under the dining room table, attacking the legs of anyone who walked by. Hours of entertainment, especially if it was a relative I didn’t like.

He once got me when I was working on my car with the hood open. He took the opportunity to attack by climbing up my legs and back ending up on my head. It was my fault for ignoring the warning signs of him being nowhere in sight.

Cats suck! if you die they will imediately begin to feed on you. A dog will wait until he’s very hungry before feeding on your bloated corpse.

My favorite book is “101 things to do with a dead cat”. Hilarious! Cat lovers go crazy over that book!

Perhaps the reporterette is as mean as Katie Couric and the crew relished the moment.

91Veteran on March 17, 2007 at 11:40 PM

Yeah, squid. I’m not sure there would have been a way to humanely deal with that cat

Um, don’t hold it in a way that puts pressure on its internal organs, let it “stand/sit” on your arms; or hold it properly supporting its weight.

Put it down when it starts yowling.

And next, this reporter will see why the cornered badger is making those odd noises, he seems to be having fun…

My cat doesn’t like to be held. She loves to sit on my lap and is generally affectionate. She’ll let me pick her up but when she meows, it’s time to put her down. I love her dearly, but I respect her limits.

Ellen on March 18, 2007 at 8:41 AM

We have 2 cats, males, neutered, declawed, named Shorty and Stubby. They were named after they were neutered. Stubby talks he says no, mama, and hello. If one of mine acted like that he would be dropped kicked across the room by a size 7 up is butt. I guess we’re lucky since they aren’t like normal cats they meet us at the door when we come home, they beg, fetch, kiss your face, play with my son’s dogs when they visit and they love kids, maybe they were dogs in a past life?

csdeven on March 18, 2007 at 1:13 PM

Reason #389 for why you get your cats declawed: they may end up making a grown woman cry on live TV.

I felt sorry for both the cat and the reporter.
