I guess he thought that by using the word correctly, without ill intent, it’d be okay. Have we learned nothing from the Tony Snow episode?

No worries. He’s Maverick. He’s already forgiven.

Uhhh… where was he during the War vote yesterday???

If he was off campaiging, I will NOT vote for him no matter what.

Romeo13 on March 16, 2007 at 5:33 PM

Even the media find him “spent”, as AP said the other day.

Entelechy on March 16, 2007 at 5:34 PM

The war vote was a foregone conclusion. He didn’t need to be there.

Allahpundit on March 16, 2007 at 5:34 PM

What a shame. This might cause him to lose 4 of the 43 conservative votes he was assured of getting.

Allahpundit on March 16, 2007 at 5:34 PM

Really??? TWO Democrats crossed to make the vote what it was. Thats a foregone conclusion? That NO Republican would cross? That no one would change their mind? Or that a couple of Republicans would not make it to the Session due to medical problems, or an accident or something?

IMO this vote was close enough, and important enough, that he SHOULD have been there, doing his job, not off trying to get another one.

Romeo13 on March 16, 2007 at 5:40 PM

why doesnt the ann coulter email say –

get ann’s column each week by email; or you’re a faggot ?

lorien1973 on March 16, 2007 at 5:41 PM

Really??? TWO Democrats crossed to make the vote what it was. Thats a foregone conclusion?

Yes, because they needed SIXTY votes to pass it. That was the deal struck to get the GOP to forego a filibuster and let it come to a vote.

Allahpundit on March 16, 2007 at 5:44 PM

McCain only needed to be there if he was planning to vote for the resolution.

rw on March 16, 2007 at 5:46 PM

I just noticed on the CNN site that Trump is contemplating a Presidential run. Well, that’s what Wolf Blitzer asked anyway. I couldn’t watch the video.

Nethicus on March 16, 2007 at 6:00 PM

Time to throw McCain under the bus too?

WildBill on March 16, 2007 at 6:09 PM

It’s not a bus, it’s an express.

- The Cat

P.S. He threw himself under there long ago.

MirCat on March 16, 2007 at 6:14 PM

Man up, John! You used the word properly!

“I was wrong” ~snivel~

jdpaz on March 16, 2007 at 6:23 PM

Interesting, so a deal struck, with no binding vote, which overrides the rules of the Senate??? To make it so you needed 60 votes to pass a standard “law”???

Quite interesting….

Romeo13 on March 16, 2007 at 6:25 PM

Silly RINOS,

JANE HAS ALREADY SPOKEN……Next…..

seejanemom on March 16, 2007 at 6:53 PM

TarBaby,TarBaby,TarBaby,TarBaby,TarBaby!

/racial privilege

baldilocks on March 16, 2007 at 7:23 PM

Political Correctness is the new weapon of choice in a society that has lost its moral way.

What he said was not racist. But, McCain’s now on his apology tour and then he’s looking at a trip to rehab.

Hillary Rodham O’Hara can talk about the plantation in a Black church, talk with a condescending Southern drawl and it hardly gets a more than a mention.

More dumbing down of America.

doingwhatican on March 16, 2007 at 7:25 PM

He didn’t need to be there.

Allahpundit

Yes he did need to be there, that is his job!

CharlestonCritic on March 16, 2007 at 7:28 PM

Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben could not be reached for comment.

**disclaimer** I purchased two racial offsets from Robert KKK Byrd.

TugboatPhil on March 16, 2007 at 8:01 PM

Did I hear right? He, as President, “~would be happy to get you the kind of divorce court representation you need~”.

Sorry, but I just don’t think that the President of the United States should be in the divorce lawyer referral business.

The rest of his answer to an (apparently) really stupid question would have been great if he hadn’t added that.

Nothing at all wrong with ‘tar-baby’ the way he used it. Apologizing for it just proves (once again) what a weenie really is.

LegendHasIt on March 16, 2007 at 8:05 PM

McCain and Tony Snow got nothin’ on our favorite Chocolate Mayor Ray Nagin. This was in April 2004, the pre-failed levees by way of category 1 to 2 “Katrina” (I would have said pre-Katrina, but “Katrina” didn’t destroy that city did, but I’m going to try to stay off of that tangent)

After ONE DAY ON THE JOB the executive director of the city’s planning commission was forced out. Nagin, who has no oversight urged he be fired and he quickly resigned (basically, he was fired) for saying “Tar Baby”.

But remember, he’s the one responsible for the deaths in New Orleans and he’s a Democrat, so hands off folks!!!

RightWinged on March 16, 2007 at 8:32 PM

If only tar was a different color, I’d use that term often but correctly. (sigh)

Buzzy on March 16, 2007 at 8:36 PM

McCain should cut the apologies and be a man. Tell the politically correct police to go screw themselves.

McCain should also finally realize that people in the mainstream media are not his friends. McCain would have had plenty of real friends if he had not been playing footsy with the mainstream media and liberal Democrats in the last six years and stayed true to being a Navy combat pilot and the son and grandson of US Navy Admirals.

Phil Byler on March 16, 2007 at 8:49 PM

Apologize, rehab? Naahh, McCain is far to liberal for that, he just needs to purchase the appropriate number of tar baby offsets.

Speakup on March 16, 2007 at 11:46 PM

The only ones who need to apologize are the publik skool teachers that have failed to teach the children how to look up common words in Webster’s.

What’s worse is that those functional illiterates vote.

Universal suffrage, the dumbest political idea in the history of democracy.

Oh, and McCain, for apologizing for using the English language correctly, is a f… sorry, is “wimp” allowable, or is that rehab worthy “hate speech” too?

I just can’t keep up with how you natives are murdering the language that I wasted so much time learning.

Misha I on March 17, 2007 at 1:46 AM

I regret that I have only one vote to withhold from McCain.

Maxx on March 17, 2007 at 3:27 AM

I didn’t even know what a tar baby was until this incident. But then again, I wouldn’t have run around using it either.

mccain lost before he even started. He never stood a chance. I laugh at all these little polls people are reporting on…then you find out the sample size was like 100 or 400 lol. Give me a break.

Highrise on March 17, 2007 at 5:18 AM

You two report to RINO rehab immediately!!!

csdeven on March 17, 2007 at 9:01 AM

Throw McCain under the bus??? He isn’t even on the highway……too far away to even carry him that far!!

Mellen on March 17, 2007 at 10:15 AM

Hmmm…. would a Faggot Tarbaby be a Tar covered doll made from sticks?

Romeo13 on March 17, 2007 at 10:25 AM

So far, the presidential candidtates from all parties tend to lay waste to the “Great Man Theory”.

rplat on March 17, 2007 at 10:27 AM

By apologizing for using words in their traditional sense, McCain looks like another trained seal in the Gramscian circus.

He can beg for fish if he wants to, but he’ll never get my vote.

petefrt on March 17, 2007 at 12:22 PM

To say “touch the tarbaby” is itself a way to touch the tarbaby.

That’s my moment of Zen for the day.

Kralizec on March 17, 2007 at 3:16 PM

Open Letter to Fred Thompson:

PLEASE RUN FOR PRESIDENT!

Pretty please?
