British school renames “Three Little Pigs” to avoid offending Muslims

There’s a happy ending to this story, I promise.
[O]rganisers of the Kirklees Primary Music Festival decided to change the script to be ’sensitive’ to Muslims at a recent committee meeting.
Committee member Gill Goodswen, head teacher of Stile Common Junior School, defending the move.
She said: “We have to be sensitive if we want to be multi-cultural. It was felt it would be more responsible not to use the three little pigs.
“We feared that some Muslim children wouldn’t sing along to the words about pigs,’ she said.
And as promised, here’s the happy ending.
But Shaykh Ibrahim Mogra from the Muslim Council of Britain branded the move ‘bizarre’.
He said: “The vast majority of Muslims have no problem whatsoever with the Three Little Pigs. It’s always been the traditional way of telling the story and I don’t see why that should be changed.
“There’s an issue about the eating of pork, which is forbidden, but there is no prohibition about reading stories about pigs. This is an unnecessary step.”…
Mr Mogra said: “How far are we going to go? Are we going to change the seven dwarves because it’s discriminatory towards people who are physically less able? Where do you draw the line?
“Every time we get these stories Muslims are seen more and more as misfits. We have to accept there’s a predominant culture here.”

I had many Muslim friends in Indonesia ask me if I had ever eaten pork.
I assured them it was delicious. Especially baby back ribs with beer.
Story 2: at one point, our cook (Muslim) came in and booted me out of the kitchen b/c I was cooking bacon. I said she didn’t have to cook it, for obvious reasons. She assured me that she cooked it all the time–her husband loved the stuff.
Now, Indonesia isn’t the whole Muslim world, and is pretty different than, say, the Arab peninsula. But they’re relatively easygoing about other people eating pigs, in my experience. Actually eating it, like my cook’s husband, is a bit of an exception…

The whole notion of this really chaps my ass. We *always* have to modify *our* culture to accommodate other cultures yet other cultures *never* need to accept any of our customs, stories, traditions, etc. The unspoken idea here is that we are bad, our culture is bad, and we *always* need to change our culture in order to avoid offending and if we ever see something in another culture that we find offensive, it is wrong to be offended and need “cultural diversity sensativity training”.
It’s horse crap. All of it.

I guess my point is, the Muslins should have been sent to a cultural awareness class to teach them that the story was not written to offend Muslims and any offense they feel is their “stuff” and they need to deal with it. THEY need to adapt to OUR culture, not the other way round.

What they didn’t tell us was that to appease the Muslim religious sensibilities, “The Three Little Pigs” would be changed to “The Three Little Jews.” The movie “King Kong” would be changed to “King Christian,” the Empire State Building is changed to the Kaaba, and the airplanes are flown by mullahs.

In the San Jose/Campbell, California area..I signed up for a class for my kid who was 1.5 yrs old..a gym kids class through parks and recreation. When counting piggy toes..like this little piggy went to the market, this little piggy stayed home, this little piggy had roast beef, this little piggy had none….we could not say the pig had roast beef..we were forced to say pizza. I have no doubt that they’ll change the piggy out too.
I also was in a mom’s group that I finally had to leave and a friend told me that they were planning their christmas party last year and they argued for a long time on if they were allowed to serve bacon because of offending muslims and vegetarians. They are lucky I had quit, I would have demanded bacon lol.
I wish I was joking about this, but I’m not.

This reminds me of the south park episode where the school nurse had a dead fetus attached to her head, and in a show of sensitivity they focused on her uniqueness so much that she called them all a bunch of freaks.

Considering their over sensitivity has caused Native American mascots to be removed though we could care less about the use of Chiefs and Braves as mascots (personally I find it offensive that they seem bent on removing things that represent my heritage from the public square), and considering that they’re more offended than the Wiccans are of witches at halloween celebrations
I’d say that’s a no brainer man. I don’t even see how you could ask that question.
