On her radio show today, Laugra Ingraham took AG Gonzales and the Bush administration to task for stupidity. Not for firing the prosecutors, since they were within the executive’s prerogative to do that, but for mishandling the press/left carping about it. It’s par for the course, with this administration. Click to play.
On her web site, Ingraham also has an interview with Andy McCarthy, a former assistant US attorney and now contributor to National Review.

Precisely. The lack of strong leadership results in ridiculous statement and stupid actions by far too many people in this administration. If Gonzales lied to Congress, then he has to go. If he didn’t know what his subordinates were doing in his name and in the name of the DoJ, then he has to go. He has created that binary choice. We do not have a third option, such as these guys serve at the pleasure of the Prex. No one is arguing that. What I am arguing, and it sounds liek Laura is, too, is that the lack of leadership makes this bigger than it should have been. It is not the dismissal, though Iglesias’ firing bothers me because Domenici and company allegedly asked for it, it is the mishandling of the action.
What, is no one in this administration besides Tony Snow capable of articulating policy?
Ennuipundit on March 14, 2007 at 4:20 PM
I saw a Dem Congresswoman on C-Span this morning that claimed the reason these guys were fired is beacuse each of them were working on cases involving Republican corruption. So, that’s the Dem talking point.

I have to say that the person I would like to be hearing giving answers to this is Fred Thompson. Maybe Newt, but all the rest ,it seems to me, would use weasel words .
bbz123 on March 14, 2007 at 4:28 PM
She is so right! When will someone (anyone?) in this administration grow a pair of Malkins and defend their actions? I get so tired of the politically-correct caving in on Every. Freakin’. Issue.

Laura nails the main gripe I’ve had with this administration … no backbone. Stand up and defend yourselves once in a while. Jeeesh

hot air crashed Laura! Cannot open the interview that I would like to read.

It may be par for the course this term, but it certainly wasn’t in the first term. If all the Bush bashing conservatives gave Bush credit where credit is due every once in a while i would take what they say seriously. As it is now, they’re just screechy hags on par with Arianna. It seems like every couple of months all the conservative pundits have a little Bush bashing temper tantrum and it’s gotten real old. Nothing has changed in Bush’s positions over the past few years, but what has changed is that Bush no longer serves any purpose for you. So Laura Ingram and all the rest are just throwing him overboard. It says a lot more about you people than it does about him.

Definitely more of a steer than a bull!
brtex on March 14, 2007 at 4:47 PM
Once again, Laura is so right. This whole episode makes the Breck girl look butch by comparison.
The left’s constant drumbeat of “scandals” isn’t a new tactic, but it’s become so successful because of the absence of any meaningful response, that lately it seems to be wall-to-wall, 24/7. And it’s getting very old trying to defend an administration that won’t defend itself. Even Mrs. Bill Clinton got a shot in, of all people.
What are they so afraid of? Take the gloves off and fight back! Oh yeah, and while you’re at it, explain what happened to all those leak investigations. And pardon Libby right f’ing now.
bofh on March 14, 2007 at 4:47 PM
It wasn’t? Lewis Libby sure would like to know about that. The “scandal” created out of a perfectly reasonable response by the WH to an administration critic who lied about virtually everything – while the president backed away from his own 16 words which were verified as completely true by multiple sources.
What it says about us is that we are sick and tired of defending an administration that lacks the balls to defend itself even when it is perfectly right to do so.

This crap just never ends………..
PinkyBigglesworth on March 14, 2007 at 4:54 PM
Can we use a different word from now on? The titles are driving me nuts these days. So and so BLASTS Gonzales. So and so SLAMS Gonzales. Jesus, we are just as bad as the MSM.
msipes on March 14, 2007 at 4:55 PM
Hey, Hey, Hey, you can’t call us “you people”, that would be
racistinsensitive. :pSeriously though, Bush may not have changed his positions over the past few years but I think that is part of the problem some have with him. He has taken the war on terror seriously which I applaud but there are some issues that we wish he would approach in the same manner he does the WOT. I think most on this blog realize that we are much better off with Bush in office than we would be had either Gore or Kerry won the office. It just gets old when the left says the most outrageous things and there is no rebuttal.
brtex on March 14, 2007 at 4:58 PM
Laura is correct. Mamby pamby says it all. Bush and his team of geldings.

That’s not true. Bush has let his conservative base down–big time. I have stood by him throughout everything, as have many people here at HA. Lately, it has become nearly impossible to defend him. And things have gotten even worse since the last election.
Not gonna take the blame. No sireee.
IrishEi on March 14, 2007 at 5:07 PM
Are you kidding conservative and republicans alike have never defended the president vocally. They don’t make a conserted collective effort to do so. I mean look at the presidents energy and social security initiatives. Talk about leaving a guy out to dry…my goodness.
This place sounds like Kos. If I don’t get what I want pee pee on you. You guys are being stubborn. Maybe, you would get more of what you want if he felt like he had someone at his back. This site which I love has twisted everything he has said and that is sad.

Laura Ingram is a douche noozle. Why should anyone try to please her harpy ranting ass? She only cares about Ivy league judges and trashing illegal immigrants. She makes me tired and grumpy with her griping and moaning. Republicans will always be the stupid party.
Stormy70 on March 14, 2007 at 5:14 PM
Oh, puh-freakin’-leeze. Conservatives have gone to bat for Bush on major issues time and time again, particularly on the war, both the larger one in general and the theater of Iraq in particular.
But we’re damn tired of going to bat for a guy that won’t go to bat for himself.

Can we put to rest the notion of the “New Tone”…
…FINALLY?!?!?
What a sad, pathetic, useless JOKE that has been. It only belies one’s political spinelessness–or lack of sense.

When W acts like a apologetic wimp scared of Democrats, what worries me most is al-Qaeda’s reaction.
Halley on March 14, 2007 at 5:38 PM
BTW, much was said about Bush’s appreciation of loyalty early on. Where is HIS loyalty to his base, the Pendleton 8, Scooter, et al.?!?

Dead on the money. The Bush admin. is nutless, gutless, and spineless. Did I leave out anything? Oh yeah, they’re also sellouts, backstabbers and turncoats. Ronald Reagan is spinning in his grave.

He should fire all 93 NOW including the ones he just replaced. When people see a strong horse and a weak horse they pick the strong one.
Resolute on March 14, 2007 at 8:35 PM
He-he. The crazies are running the circus. And the clowns are out of control. Newt or Thompson could possibly be anywhere near this ignorant could they? I know the Dem’s candidates would at least have smarter council and/or puppeteers.

Laura Ingraham as AG, not a bad prospect…

We all know a presidents last two years in office is to give pay back to those that supported him for the last 6 years.
Get ready for more of this kind of chaos from the Bush admin.

When will this nightmare end?
President Bush?
More like poo on the bottom of the shoe!

Reprinted from the other thred (because it rolled off the front page and into the archives).
The hypocrisy of the Democrats and the bias of the liberal MSM is breathtaking.
I wish that Bush would take to the “bully pulpit” and personally announce (and identify by name) those US Attornies that refused to investigate or prosecute vote fraud, which USA’s objected to the death penalty, and which USA’s were insubordinate by implementing their own agenda instead of the President’s.
Further, I wish that Bush would unequivocally come right out and state: “It is my perogitive to fire these US Attorneys for the reasons I just enumerated, even though I do not need to provide any reason for doing so, as they serve at my pleasure. My predecesser fired, in an unheard of action, all 93 US attorneys allowing only 10 days notice and in the process, deliberately short circuiting an investigation of himself, his wife, and his ally, Dan Rostenkowski who was later indicted for mail fraud.
This is all that this administration will be say about it. Attorney General Gonzales will NOT testify before Congress. Neither will any employee of the Justice Department. Neither will I nor any other member of the Administration either testify or provide documents, emails, or any other information subpoened by the Democrats in Congress.
THIS CHARADE IS NOTHING BUT POLITICS BY DEMOCRATS. It is being stoked by the Democratic Party leadership and the media that aided and abetted Bill and Hillary Clinton to kill a federal investigation of themselves in Arkansas, and protected a member of the Democratic Party leadership while he was pushing Bill and Hillary’s economic agenda through Congress.
This discussion is over.”
georgej on March 15, 2007 at 9:39 AM
Laura is so right on this. The Bush admin is its own worst enemy. I still suport Bush on many issues (especially on Iraq), but it inability to defend itself from the Dhimmiecrat attacks is absolutely pathetic. And don’t even get me started on the border for chr—akes. Pack your bags Gonzalez.
