The man knows his stuff. However, I do believe that there really are grounds for optimism. The jihadists cannot win unless they establish a caliphate. A large portion of the world hermeticallysealed from western civilization while the west itself is vulnerable to coercive proselyting. If they do not get said caliphate within 15 years (pessimistic estimate) to 30 years (worst case estimate) they cannot win. They are toast---roast pork no less. With the USA and Israel in the mideast, caliphate is impossible. We have good positional warfare going. Casualties, while regrettable, remain at affordable levels. If General Petraeus does a Ridgeway, so much the better and he appears off to a good start. And the Man From Midland is nothing if not more stubborn than an old mule. Fundamentally, things are looking good. By the way, back in 1984, I started saying that the USSR would not see the 21st Century. I was hooted at, of course. Shall we hope I am right again? Well like a Hydra, you don’t go for the head.

In boxing (just like the Tyson/Holyfield fight) don’t go for the head, attack the body. Tyson’s trainer kept yelling at him for going for the head because it wasn’t working, but when Tyson went for the body blows, Holyfield lost power.

If it were like Natzism where there was only one leading driving force, sure go for the head. But in Islam you are dealing with an ideology, a movement. There is no head to cut off.
