Seen it twice…….there isn’t a single line of PC in the entire movie. None. Nada. Zip. Eyecandy, blood, and plenty of great CGI. The message of the movie is don’t play with swords and spears.

Me, too!
What the hell is the alternative, non-democracy (socialism/communism) or non-freedom (slavery)?
You might want to live in that world, go ahead, take a one way ticket to Hugo Chavez, get off the plane, drop your pants, bend over, and get ready for the “Filthy Sanchez”…… and when you realize your are not having such a good time, don’t expect the Armed Forces of the United States of America to come and save you………

I am trying to figure out how Rove got Herodotus, 25 centuries ago, to validate the GWOT. He is such a magnificent bastard.

One of the greater pleasures in this life is to antagonize these Europeans, mostly so logically, and with facts, that they’d like to strangle you, but they can’t because they’d lose the friendship. It’s a delightful art. They come back for more, against their better judgment. And they sure provide endless resources of materials. The Gore-package has been a wonderful endeavour, and is on-going. 2008 will be a bloodbath.
Sadly, if they don’t wake up, for them the game will be over and losing their freedom/democracy will be a reality, sooner than for us.

The Movie flat out rocked.
Good action, and what I consider a very positive messege, which has been missed for many years.
Freedom is worth fighting for…
Anyone know where I can get a wolf tooth necklace???? Real one??? non Peta variety?

SnakeintheGrass on March 11, 2007 at 11:58 PM
It ain’t the movie they’re twisted over, it’s Miller’s views on the GWOT.
Miller, and I might say rightly so, sees the parallelisms between the dawn of the fall of Rome and the crap-puddle we’re hip deep in, currently:
… of course, let the barbarians hang around long enough, and you’re asking for trouble. Big trouble.
He also has no restraint in calling out the anti-war crowd with deft aplomb:
He says everything the anti-war folk are covering the ears to avoid, but he’s right. Dead right. He’s fearless and consistent when he speaks out, and when he releases a movie such as 300, the diaper tinkling port-leaners are bound to draw dotted lines between his words, his work and their platform of war is senseless (even if our enemy tends to disagree – but I digress).
They want this movie to fail so its success (or lack thereof) can be an allegory of pro-war sentiment. So, they want to stamp a pro-Bush label on this movie in order for it to tank and validate their beliefs.
I don’t possess the wherewithall to prove or disprove if their theory will hold water; but, it’s grossed $75M already, so you tell me.
.. apologies for the rant.

I suspect the left-o-sphere’s attempts to undermine the film won’t succeed. I work with a certifiably crazed moonbat, and even he liked the movie. (Though maybe if he’d read some of the leftist blog posts first…)
Meanwhile, it’s extraordinary the contortions the left will go through to attempt to cast political aspersions on such a largely non-political (and certainly non-partisan) film. It’s as if the expectation in Hollywood is no longer merely that leftist propaganda in film is acceptable, but that it is actively required.
Blacklake on March 12, 2007 at 12:24 AM
yo, I like the way you “rant”.
Entelechy on March 12, 2007 at 12:26 AM
Blacklake… you don’t understand their agenda…
They do not want our children even competing, let alone be willing to die for somthing they believe in….
All war is wrong… there is no justified war… thats their mantra.
And this movie strikes to the heart of that belief…

He is correct about the situation in Europe. The MSM in Europe is far, far worse than in the US, and except for the tiny percentage now tuned into blogs, Europeans are given a daily “news” diet that could easily come directly from Moveon.org. In international politics, the default is “USA=bad guy, Israel=bad guy” no matter what, and Islamic terror is alwaysaccompanied with some excuse or other. So, yes, simply defending freedom, by implication, is now associated in Europe with the dreaded “neo-con” agenda. The general level of political ignorance is terrifying, and is the intentional result of the Euromedia’s ongoing campaign to enforce Leftist thought.
One could take the Screw Europe position, except for the fact that the current situation there leaves Europe vulnerable to Islamicism, which is a direct national security threat to the US.
The few movies that don’t sympathize with Islamic terror in their storylines (like United 93) are ignored or smugly dissed in Europe, while the anti-America filth from Hollywood (Constant Gardener, anything by Michael Moore, Syiana, etc) are revered and unquestioned. 300 will not do well there, unless somehow they can convince themselves that it’s about brave Islamic freedom fighters resisting the evil Zionist/capitalist conspiracy.

Every man in the US should be forced to watch this movie, especially the liberal men. The clarity of this movie, for all of its effects and gore (which I didn’t think was that bad), really surprised me.
We should also send this movie to every man in France. They’d all explode.
Darksean on March 12, 2007 at 7:40 AM
This is a fantastic movie. One of the best I have seen in a long time. I thought it was an allagory about the USMC. At one point I was tempted to stand up and shout “The Few, The Proud, The Marines!!!”
Babs on March 12, 2007 at 7:57 AM
SPARTANS… COME OUT TO PLAY!
I may be wrong, but damn, it must be tough to be a European these days. There you are daily among colossal cathedrals and monuments built by generations of familes when your nation was Empire-in-Charge. And now you’ve got friggin’ Captain Euro looking over you. I could say more about Captain Euro, but then I’d have to go to rehab.
If anything pisses me off it’s when Europeans bitch about “American Imperialism,” ’cause, you know, we invented the idea of empire.
saint kansas on March 12, 2007 at 8:03 AM
If those on the left insist on taking “300″ as a political statement then would it be wrong of us to send ‘Xerxes’ coins to all the anti-war and Democratic leaders?
KCSteve on March 12, 2007 at 8:42 AM
I wondered why the MSM movie critics were giving this movie low scores. Thanks for the non-left leaning reviews!

“Fascism is always descending on the United States, but somehow it keeps landing in Europe” — Tom Wolfe
It is difficult to get the key idea across in this era of political correctness. There are two different views of diversity in conflict here. The Hellenic view is that of the city states, autonomous areas that are free to be Athens or Sparta or something of their own. They can cooperate or not, their choice. The Persian view is forced inclusion into the empire. Satrapies are free to follow their own customs as long as they submit to the emperor. The units in the Persian army are wonderful for their different ethnic groups but they fight only for the emperor.
Few of us (Yes, there are a few of you out there) would cchoose Sparta over Athens but we should all choose the Hellenic idea over the Persian one. And it seems to me this is the question many Europeans don’t get. They might not want to select the American way over the European way but that isn’t the battle. The fight is between the Western way or the Islamic way. Time to pick up a sword and choose.
mkstach on March 12, 2007 at 9:47 AM
In a word awsome! Babs, you’re on to something. On the way out of the theater I said those Spartan’s were bada$$es. My husband said they reminded him of Marines.

What truly baffles me is that the legend of Leonidas was, to the Europeans, their Valley Forge, Gettysburg, San Juan Hill. The story inspired every European generation from Caesar to Churchill. Leonidas was not only the stuff men were made of he was the stuff nations were made of. Then along came a spider. Truly amazing how centuries of reverence has turned into disgust.

You know, when you have an International Criminal Court which defines “genocide” partially as “Causing serious…mental harm to members of…a national, ethnical, racial or religious group…”, it’s not hard to imagine a classroom with the following exchange: “Suzie, what is imperialism?” “It’s thinking your system is better than somebody else’s…”
