Video: Maher: Republicans “love Ronald Reagan in a way that’s just gay”

(hat tip: Noel Sheppard)

This “joke” came right after he made fun of Ann’s anti-gay “joke”. The crowd booed Ann but went wild over Bill’s “Republicans love Reagan in a gay way” joke. By the way, panelist David Kuo is the one who implied calling Reagan the “big Gipper” is gay. Kuo, if you remember, is a real “Christian conservative” who left the White House because they lost their religious way. He was whooping on conservatives all last night. However, he did defend Reagan’s part in the Cold War (not shown in the video). I can’t wait to see America Blog condemn Maher. I just. can’t. wait. Bill Maher’s weird joke is okay though, since he’s a liberal.

Transcript:

BILL MAHER, HOST: And they [Republicans] have something very gay, excuse me, going on with Ronald Reagan. I mean, they love Ronald Reagan in a way that’s just gay. I’m sorry, but, I think they want to put him on a stamp so they can lick his backside. Seriously, I mean, am I right?

DAVID KUO, PANELIST: They call him the big Gipper.

Uh, no, Bill you’re not right. Reagan brought the economy back, brought American confidence back and won the Cold War. Maybe you missed that decade. The rest of us didn’t.

I do love Reagan, but I’m not feeling the gay thing.

mikeyboss on March 10, 2007 at 6:15 PM

It’s interesting that Bill Maher confuses gayness with reverence. What does that tell us about the left?

Heck if I know. But it’s interesting.

Kevin M on March 10, 2007 at 6:16 PM

Bill Maher loves himself in a way that’s just gay.

And it’s getting to the point that “Bill Maher says something stupid” isn’t a headline, it’s a job description. But then liberalism ruins everything it touches (see also: Democratic Party), and obviously Bill’s brain is no exception.

Just say anything! … to win the hearts and minds of the mentally defunct moonbats

He probably can’t remember through a previously self-admitted use of drugs in his past.

kevcad on March 10, 2007 at 6:27 PM

He has ceased to outrage and has become simply pathetic. Time for the butterfly net.

CrimsonFisted on March 10, 2007 at 6:29 PM

I won’t even watch the clip, but I can visualize him on his knees in front of Bill Clinton…… open wide!

Is that reverence, or just gay?

PinkyBigglesworth on March 10, 2007 at 6:33 PM

Maher didn’t miss that decade, he was just wasted on some really good s**t! But he’s still better than us!

stonemeister on March 10, 2007 at 6:45 PM

Is he also implying that Republican’s are only men? So isn’t that showing sexual discrimination in at least a couple of ways?

I guess you get away with a lot of things when you are a democrat

Noelie on March 10, 2007 at 6:47 PM

And to think that HBO used to have Dennis Miller on every week instead of this pathetic maher clown.

Quite a step down in quality product, if you ask me.

The Country’s had about enough. The pendulum is gonna swing back closer to the Center soon. Watch and see.

techno_barbarian on March 10, 2007 at 6:54 PM

I viewed Ronald Reagan as a “Father figure”.

When I heard the news that President Ronald Reagan had passed I actually cried. I was shocked at my own response, but it’s the truth. I respected and admired him sooo much.

Bill Maher disgusts me.

I loved Ronald Reagan out of respect and admiration.

angryamerican on March 10, 2007 at 7:13 PM

Ian,

At your own blog you posted a fantastic tribute to Ronald Reagan and I feel it deserves to be posted again.

RESPECT!

Ok. So where is the chairman of the RNC calling for the democratic candidates to publicly repudiate Maher? The Republican candidates fell over each other to condemn Coulter as soon as Dean opened his mouth, so now it is time for some fair play, is it not?

Guess not.

brazilnut on March 10, 2007 at 7:22 PM

Correction:

What he meant to say was, “conservatives love Reagan in the same way I love stalin.”

Which, I guess, could be gay.

Bill Maher channeling gayness. This deserves a stint in rehab. Did anyone else find Rosanne hot in this clip? Excuse me, it’s time to take my pills.

dingoatemebaby on March 10, 2007 at 7:29 PM

I see homophobia is still alive and kicking on the left

Capitalist Infidel on March 10, 2007 at 7:35 PM

I’d say something about Maher but if you say the words “****** ****** *** ** * *****!” they throw you inr rehab

Defector01 on March 10, 2007 at 7:41 PM

I cancelled HBO because of all the faux documentaries and Bill Maher. I can always Netflix Rome and Sopranos on DVD. HBO has gone completely downhill.

Stormy70 on March 10, 2007 at 7:46 PM

How’d you find that, angryamerican? Every time I look there, or at the political teen, I get sent here to hotair.com.

Kevin M on March 10, 2007 at 7:49 PM

I cancelled HBO because of all the faux documentaries and Bill Maher. I can always Netflix Rome and Sopranos on DVD. HBO has gone completely downhill.

Stormy70 on March 10, 2007 at 7:46 PM

I agree. We canceled all the pay movie channels because there was never anything on worth watching. After the deals they have to make with distributors to get the top films, they have to play all the pure crap. And there’s a LOT of crap.

We’ll probably get HBO when the new season of Deadwood starts, but we always get the DVD box sets, so maybe we’ll just hold off and wait for that.

TV just sucks nowadays.

techno_barbarian on March 10, 2007 at 8:05 PM

Just when you think Maher can’t be any more revolting, he proves us wrong…
I think the way Lib Lefties like him drool over Clenis and obsess over President Bush is way gay and have thought so for years…

Stormy, I think I’ll follow your example–HBO is a sewer and doesn’t deserve our patronage.

angry american, I thought of President Reagan as a father figure, too, in the same way that George Washington was the Father of our Country.
I cried during his funeral, too, and I still miss him.
He believed in America and in us–ordinary citizens–and as for Hollywood, he had “been there, done that,” unlike Maher (ever seen Maher’s one terrible movie? Hilariously bad.)

Jen the Neocon on March 10, 2007 at 8:11 PM

Sounds like projection to me.

Tony737 on March 10, 2007 at 8:12 PM

Someone needs to ask Mahir why he feels that licking a stamp is like…… Because I wonder who’s stamp he likes to use the most ?

William Amos on March 10, 2007 at 8:20 PM

The phenomenon is mysterious to Bill Maher simply because RWR was a REAL MAN. A man’s man. Not a girlie man. Not a freak that possesses the wrong number of chromosomes. Hmmm. No wonder Maher can’t relate. Maybe someone should “connect the dots” for him. (What a pathetic waste of human flesh.)

CyberCipher on March 10, 2007 at 8:40 PM

Bill Maher proves he’s a low rent punk every time he opens his pie hole…

No, there’s no double standard.

No, not at all.

And chocolate rations have been increased from thirty grams to twenty grams per week.

Love, hate, fear, or ignore Ann Coulter, but her latest editorial on Town Hall about double standards is 200% dead-on. It’s one of the reasons I lost all respect for the left – they have, for at least my lifetime, always expected to be subject to a lower standard than anyone else.

Merovign on March 10, 2007 at 10:45 PM

Um…I’m a girl! Is it still gay?

This reminds me of the time Nina Burleigh said she’d give Bill Clinton oral sex “just to thank him for keeping abortion legal.” The thing is, he’d say, “OK!”

So yeah, in that modern spirit of discourse I guess I should have offered up my generously lubricated ass to Ronald Reagan to thank him for, well, saving the world from the Soviet Union, for one thing. But I’m pretty sure he would have passed on that offer. For which I’d love him even more.

I think I’ll start a line of I’m Gay for Reagan T-shirts.

saint kansas on March 11, 2007 at 4:25 AM

I saw President Reagan as a “grandpa figure”…mainly because he was my grandfathers’ age. I also associated him with Mr. Rogers. Hey – I was 7 when he became President, so sue me. Anyway, I associated Mr. Reagan with a pretty good childhood, so only warm thoughts from me, and I have a nicely framed pic of him over my bar.

Still, it does make me wonder. Even if I did love Mr. Reagan in “that way”, there’s the fact that I’m an actual female that sort of makes the “gay” analogy not work. It’s not just male conservatives who love him.

Just like Coulter’s joke, this is a pretty lame joke that doesn’t quite make sense. Also, liberals calling conservatives gay is a standard joke, and yes it doesn’t make sense from a consistency point of view, but that’s not my problem. I’m not going to take any umbrage at Maher, mainly because that would mean I’d have to take him seriously at some level. It’s very difficult for me to take offense at somebody I have an extremely low opinion of.

meep on March 11, 2007 at 6:51 AM

I’d say what I thought about Bill Maher, but it turns out you have to go to rehab if you use the word “cockbite”.

Bill Maher is a cockbite.

I’m goin’a Hawaii! YAAAAAAY!!!

Aren’t gays offended by this comment? Maher meant it as an insult against all people who respected Reagan. Using gay implications as an insult. No compliants? Really?

Wasn’t a college woman dragged in last week for reeducation tolerance training for saying, “That’s so gay.”
How come Maher gets a pass? The woman’s defense was, “My whole high school says that. It means “pathetic.” Nope, not good enough. She must be punished.

An actor was sent to rehab for “faggot.” Ann Coulter is subjected to wails of angst, wails and wails for using that word in association with a hair-fluffing, hetero male.

Maher sniggers and smirks, his demeanor projects mockery, his guest offers up a vulgar reference to be sure the insult is understood. Gays aren’t offended? They must have thicker skins than they were displaying to create the Coulter “incident.”
Or maybe there’s a double standard. So next time a gay whinges about a conservative’s speech, he or she should be turned around and told, go clean your own house first, then we discuss.

What the hell makes his take on things worthy of a show?

What life experience does he have that makes his opinion worth listening to?

Screw him……..the faggot.

If Republicans “love Ronald Reagan in a way that’s just gay”, how would this turkey describe the Democrat’s love of J.F.K.?

Personally, I think that Maher IS gay, and a closet Republican, and he’s just trying to hide the fact from himself and others. He attacks the Republicans so much that he seems to be obsessed with them. I would classify his statements as projection.

Maher is a closet Gay Republican! He needs to come out and let the healing begin.

I love Ronald Reagan…I don’t know it it’s gay, but I really did love the guy, and I still love his memory.

More importantly though, isn’t this a HUGE scandal? Maher insults gays! Or is it only time to yell and scream when Ann Coulter uses the word gay or faggot?

Allah,

“I realized then that there must be many homosexuals and bisexuals who have been honored on postage stamps.”

I guess we should take heart to Maher’s remark?

“I mean, they love Ronald Reagan in a way that’s just gay. I’m sorry, but, I think they want to put him on a stamp so they can lick his backside.”

I wonder how many stamps Maher licked on the backside? How many liberal stamps did he lick? Perhaps a Barbara Streisand stamp?

Kokonut on March 12, 2007 at 10:08 AM

Marher’s problem is obvious; he’s contributed nothing to the betterment of mankind, one hour after he’s buried no one will remember him for a thing, as dogs defecate on his star on the Hollywood Walk of Shame, if he even has one.

Dread Pirate Roberts VI on March 12, 2007 at 11:23 AM

Reagan – a man’s man. Steve Irwin – a man’s man. Maher – not so much. I think I’m going to become a leftist. Chicks would dig me and I could say what ever I felt with no recourse. Works for Maher, he’s gotten free passes on dressing as Steve Irwin after Steve’s death and now this. Sure there’s other statements out there, but I don’t pay much attention to this POS.

SPIFF1669 on March 12, 2007 at 11:27 AM

When my Dad was a kid, he said that taxes were as high as 90 percent! When Reagan left office, the top rate was 28% and we had a booming economy.

John Adams ears must be burning b/c how many times can we use his quote…”Facts are stubborn things.”
