Video: Democratic congressman goes nuclear on “idiot liberals”

posted at 12:19 pm on March 9, 2007 by Allahpundit

He’s an exasperated jerk dealing with political reality; she’s a military mom with her head in the clouds. Will their shared hatred of the Bushitler’s war be enough to keep them together, or will their loathing of each’s other stupidity and immorality, respectively, drive them apart? Stay tuned — for “Democratic Crackup.”

Takeaway line: “We do have the votes if you guys quit screwing it up,” an apparent reference to the backlash among Blue Dog Democrats to Murtha’s pandering to doves.

How’d you like to be the staffer responsible for answering Obey’s e-mails as this starts to circulate among the nutroots? Lo, the rants shall be pretty vicious, and the action alerts important as can be.

Click the image to watch.

obey.jpg

Update: McCain: “I just wish that my colleagues in the Democratic Party would … recognize that presidents don’t lose wars and parties don’t lose wars, nations lose wars and the consequences are felt by a nation.”

Update: Obey has apologized. Intriguingly, he might not have known he was being taped.

Cool, maybe this’ll split the dhimmicrats off into a 3rd party so they’ll never have enough surrender votes to cost our children their way of life.

On Wisconsin, ON WISCONSIN! Who says we never contributed anything worthwhile to America? Dave Obey, William Rehnquist, AND Russ Feingold. Suck it, Nebraska.

I particularly like the Vietnam reference as a leverage point to try and end the war.

Teehee!

It’s funny to see them eat each other alive. I’m just amused that the elected Dems didn’t think the nutroots would turn on them if they didn’t do what they want, when they wanted after being put into power. Were they that dumb? Naive? Clueless? Or just among the “idiot liberals”?

Enoxo on March 9, 2007 at 12:58 PM

I dont feel sorry. You liberal democrats fed these nuts and their fantasy and now its comming back to bite you.

You so badly wanted to win control of congress that you sold your soul to these devils. And now they want payment.

Devil has come for his dues.

Suck it, Nebraska? What’s that mean? Is that a reference to Chuckie Hagel? Hey, don’t blame me! I didn’t vote for the guy back in the day because I saw him as some carpetbagger from Virginia who rode into Nebraska to buy a Senate seat. If the response in the local paper’s Public Pulse is any indication, Chuckie boy is in big trouble. Forget about a presidential bid; he’s not going to win re-election to the Senate.

My thoughts, too. They used the nutroots to get elected, and now the nutroots are demanding their payment.

StephC on March 9, 2007 at 1:52 PM

My favorite bit is this -

Second man in hallway interrupts: Congressman, what about the Church Amendment that helped end the Vietnam War in, what was is, ’72-’73.

OBEY: It took us 31 different efforts to get there. I was here for that!

It’s as if he’s saying, “Look kid, I was undermining wars when you were an itch in your daddy’s pants!”

By the way, guy #3 in the hallway, is he wearing an “anti-war scarf?”

yo on March 9, 2007 at 2:00 PM

What a great video. I have to respect David Obey for 1) standing up and saying [to the effect of] “I will not deny body armor…I will not defund the troops” and; 2) saying what he really thinks. SO much more could get worked out if all politicians just said what they really thoght, what they really wanted, and what their real goals are. He’s not just screwing around for political brownie points, he is serious, and he’s being straight with what he wants. I disagree with him, but honesty is the only logical place to start to get something worked out.

What’s the problem? He’s only been in office for around 37 years. How’s an elected official supposed to get anything done in that short amount of time?

;)

Benaiah on March 9, 2007 at 2:10 PM

What a class act. Does he think he’s tough by swearing?

So this woman is the mother of a military hero and “she” wants some attention? Makes me sick.

Hening on March 9, 2007 at 2:12 PM

She starts off using the chair as a basketball player uses a pick. Then (space invasion style) virtually body-checks her opponent into the wall. Women, I know your ways! (Note she carries that hot coffee in her right hand through the entire vid – except as she approaches her target. There it is carried in the left hand. Closer to her target. And it is carried thrust toward him. And low. You know what I mean.)
Tactic – she relates that some clinician had cited her son’s childhood issues as a source of his PTSD – she ain’t havin’ none of that! That’d be like space/saying she had borne some kind of responsibility for having shaped her son’s psyche and contributed to his incapacity to endure hardships. And hell yes she’s gonna make a Federal case out of it!

She may even have had a point but…

Nearly as soon as she gets the guy’s attention She abandons her son, his plight with the VA and his PTSD. What she’s after is a de-funded war.
Any talking to her about a vote directly to end the war may as well be spoken in Martian because ending the war is not her aim – shaming – and yeah I’ll say it – emasculating Bush is what she’s after.
Daddy issues? Ooooh, baby!!!! What liberal doesn’t have daddy issues?

PS One day I’ll tell you about wheeled steel-cages and a surprisingly not uncommon expression of female space/temporal aggression/territoriality when a man is spotted grocery shopping during working hours.

Stephen M on March 9, 2007 at 2:18 PM

Nothing personal – I was just pulling another midwest state out of the air. I’ve been to Omaha once – it seemed quite pleasant.

Enrique on March 9, 2007 at 2:26 PM

Wow, these people are just completely impervious to any sort of logical thought. Obey spells out in very simple terms that cutting off funding will not help her son with the VA and it flies right over her head as well as the other smug little twit who shows up later.

God, I love the smell of liberals eating their own in the morning.

Call it.

It certainly wouldn’t be the first time a leftist pretended to have military connections. Active duty (at least when I was in) would not go to a VA hospital or get VA benefits becuase they do not yet have a discharge. To qualify for VA benefits you have to have an other than dishonorable discharge, right?

Then again, she could just be a complete moron and is just complaining about her son not getting benefits to which he is not yet entitled.

Naw. Just a more honest depiction of how liberals support the troops…or their families.

I think this is great! For years the Democrat party pandered to the nuts in their base, then forgot about them once they were elected.
As others have said here, they now have a monster on their hands, and that monster is not going away.

91Veteran on March 9, 2007 at 4:04 PM

Just did a quick bit o’ the online research..

The son, is supposedly a marine… but while giving a speech had had a little beard going… only way for that to work is if he is in the Reserves…

Now, if he is in the Reserves, who does he go to for medical? If he’s active reserves it seems he should go through his UNIT to get himself help if this is PTSD or a service related injury. If he’s having problems, then he has a whole Chain of Command to ask for redress…. he is essentialy bypassing the chain of Command here (through his Mother)…

Mom, and his, names are all over the Lefty Surrender Monkey Websites….

You do. In fact, even if you are no longer on AD, you might still be referred to a military facility depending on how recent you got out, it happened to me in 1991.

I suspect your second comment is more spot on.

Nice to see that even Obey recognizes that calling someone a liberal is an insult. Although generally speaking “idiot liberal” is redundant.

ReubenJCogburn on March 9, 2007 at 4:14 PM

Another example of how far away from reality the Moonbat Left is. Their recollection of fact is inaccurate, their intrepretation of of them is confused, and their logic is flawed by bias that conforms to their ideology. The Left does not understand the world we live in today and if they have their way we will experience weakness and disaster.

omegaram on March 9, 2007 at 4:22 PM

Dear Mr. Obey,

I’m sorry it took you this long to realize that no matter what you do, no matter how much money you throw at a problem, no matter how upstanding and resolved you are, no matter what your record is….

It will never be enough for a liberal.

And the military is enormously sensitive to that these days. If your commander even thinks you might not be right in the head and/or could be thinking of hurting yourself, you’ll find yourself being mentally poked, probed and prodded ’till the cows come home.

This may not be beneficial to your career, but the DoD is extremely averse to having their people flipping out. And they certainly don’t respond to it by issuing you weapons.

Yeah, I call bullsh*t.

WisCon on March 9, 2007 at 5:42 PM

Hopefully, this means the begining of the end of the modern Democratic Party — the one that the McGovernites took over in 1972.

Up until McGovern took over the party in 1972, the 20th Century Democrats generally supported a strong national defense and were not shy about “sending in the Marines” when necessary.

That all changed when the McGovernites stole the Party in 1972 and took the party “dove.”

And now the Doves are being outflanked by the new brownshirt “nutroots” from moveon and ANSWER, who are represented by the DUers and the KOSsacks.

If conservatives and Republicans play their cards right, this issue could destroy the Democrat Party as it exists now, as the leftwing cancer infecting America.

Like the images of Iraqis slapping the downed statute of Saddam in April 2003, I hope to be “slapping” the carcus of a very dead Donkey in 2008.

Confusion to our enemies!

Does anyone else find it strangely immoral that the loony left always uses the suffering of their loved ones as political tools?

I have seen homos drag out the name of their friends that died froms aids in the public forum. Here this moonbat talks about her sons attempted suicides and then posts the video for the world to see? Then of course we have the jersey girls who are trying to make political hay with their husbands names.

I guess someone better think up a way that we conservatives can change their minds by setting some kind of better example. Consevatives don’t do this and that example isn’t working. Someone MUST have a better idea, right?

We noticed the same thing simultaneously Pablo. I knew she was baiting him and that simple s**t that boughtupthe Church Amendment. Pfllllt! Like this old dog Rep. is gonna bite on his bait. He slapped him good. But as has been said above, this shows just how scummy these Dem’s are about (as Rush has monikered) owning defeat. They just want “to get out of it.”

auspatriotman on March 10, 2007 at 2:42 AM

I’m with Pablo, she fabricated the story of her son the war hero. For accuracy’s sake, depending on location and circumstances, a full-blown psych eval (the complaint being PTSD with suicide attempts) MAY be outsourced to a VA medical facility, even for an active duty member. That said, such arrangements for an active duty Marine would still be handled by the Naval hospital, NOT the VA.

Little doubt in my mind she used the story to draw enough sympathy that he’d hear her out for more than ten seconds, so she could launch into her real point of interest.

Freelancer on March 10, 2007 at 3:23 AM

From AP’s “Democratic Crackup” link….

Rep. Lynn Woolsey, California Democrat, made the same 20th-century goof as Mr. Obey. She said the Out of Iraq Caucus plan would “fully fund a safe, orderly withdrawal of American troops and military contractors by Dec. 31, 19…”

Was she thinking December 1974? The dems are pathetic.

csdeven on March 10, 2007 at 7:42 AM

If he’s a reservist, he goes through the VA. For the Army it is for two years after the completion of their tour, I don’t know if the time period for the Marines is the same.

I can’t speak for any other VA, but the care at the VA where my husband was seen was amazing – it blew all of my preconceived notions right out of the water.

wytammic on March 10, 2007 at 2:05 PM

Certainly seems like the same woman to me. Same story as well, PTSD, suicide, poem, etc.

I couldn’t tell where the video was shot though, it sounded like she said “Show Me State”. Does she really live there or is she just claiming she recently moved there?

It also shows she’e more concerned with defunding the war than her own “son”. If she had a problem with her “son” getting treatment somewhere, I could see her trying to go to HER congressman, but going to several, when she doesn’t even live in their district, would just be useless.
Most Congressmen won’t give the time of day to anyone who lives outside their district.
