Video: Coulter “ugly,” “cultural disease,” Maher, eh not so much

posted at 8:08 pm on March 6, 2007 by Ian

First, I’ve got to hand it to Paula Zahn who was an exceptional moderator. She challenged both sides of the panel consisting of two liberals and only one conservative. Michael Gross whipped out his tin foil hat early in this debate and said those who didn’t think Coulter would use the “f-word” have “space between their eyes.” He condemned Coulter’s remarks as “ugly,” which I would agree with, but then called her a “cultural disease.”

After Zahn played Maher’s remarks and filed through a few Cheney death wishes at the Huffington Post, she immediately went to Gross for comment. Instead of denouncing Maher, like he did with Coulter, Gross went on some anti-Cheney rant. He uttered it wasn’t Maher who “who went too far” but Cheney’s arrogance of power, which he has used to “lie” and “provoke people.” Gross accused the Vice President of “driving people crazy.” Yes, we can tell! Continuing his diatribe, he paused to call Maher’s choice of words “over the top.”

The clip is severely edited to show mostly Gross and what provoked him.

Gross has a knack for exploding in television studios. Check out my posts on him at Expose the Left.

Michael Gross is a complete tool for the left and hypocrite. F-ing scum!

Now, now. He can’t do that. He’d lose his magnet.

Nethicus on March 6, 2007 at 8:31 PM

Wait, he is flat out saying that the behavior of the far left is not only acceptable but the natural result of the government policy that someone disagrees with.

He is saying (in this edited clip) that the killing of a President or VP is an acceptable means to force a change in government policy. After all, the government isn’t listening to the people, the polls, and the elections (those of 2006, not 2004 by the way. 2004 is no longer valid after the 2006 elections!).

The aptly named, ‘Mr. Gross’, is the real cultural disease.

I’ll agree with you, Ian. She did a pretty good job for a CNN anchor. However, their panels tend to lean heavily to the left anyway. Mr O had an interesting story tonight on Brian Wilson’s trip to Iraq. Seems NBC might be trying to change their spots – at least for appearance’ sake.

“We were ignored, and provoked into action…..”

Michael Gross

Idiot! OK, if you have any other points of view other than liberal democrat…… then you are the one who provokes action against you.

PinkyBigglesworth on March 6, 2007 at 8:44 PM

Yeah, “We’re being provoked to say outrageous things,” says Gross. It is not their fault they say they wish Cheney dead, they are the victims here.

What I really hated in his screed was when he said, “Nobody wants him dead,” in an attempt to dismiss the seriousness of what was written. I hate it when people do that as an argumentation tactic. Of course some that wrote they wished Cheney dead meant precisely that. Of course they did.

MayBee on March 6, 2007 at 8:45 PM

In reference to Michelle’s book, Michael Gross’s facial expression alone is the definition of “Unhinged”. Literally.

Zorro on March 6, 2007 at 8:46 PM

I looked up hypocrite in the dictionary and Michael Gross’ photo was listed there. It takes a lot of balls to be that blatant with one’s hypocrisy.

He also called Coulter “racist.” I guess if you are going to rant, you might as well rant mindlessly and just throw as much sh*t as you can whether it is accurate or not.

It was a renewal of the old classic. CNN – Zahn providing the communist A$$-clown Michael Gross with almost $2 million dollars worth of airtime to rant his extreme left

Griz on March 6, 2007 at 9:08 PM

What a blatant attempt at trying to confuse people into thinking you have anything relevent to say.

Who was the woman on the panel?

wryteacher on March 6, 2007 at 9:12 PM

Nice to see that Mr. Gross is so consistent on this issue.

I didn’t realize that it was Cheney’s fault that the Left are making all those inappropriate comments.

I can learn so much from that man.

asc85 on March 6, 2007 at 9:12 PM

This is a prime example of why I can not, no matter how hard I try, bring myself to be upset with Ann Coulter over her CPAC comment.

When so-called “conservatives” win elections, we (and I mean the royal we, of course) place our opponents on one big collective pedastal, and the highest value that our boys in Washington (you know? The ones with the little (R) behind their names?) seem to aspire to is getting alone. We’re not comfortable as winners.

Michael Gross, on the other hand, is a sublime microcosm of the entire Democratic Party. Let’s cricle the wagons. Even when we’re wrong, we’ll pretend we’re right. When we’re in the minority, we’ll pretend we still have pull.

I am not quite ready to concede that there was anything *morally* wrong with Coulter’s remarks, but I think the one thing we can all agree on here is that Republicans on Capital Hill need to wake the **** up and learn how to behave like winners!

Just because we are going to be civil, does not mean we can not turn around and say, “You sir, are wrong, and you are so wrong you sound like an idiot.” The left whines just as hard over being accurately depicted as they have been whining over Coulter. If bad behavior spoke for itself, as many of the moderators here seem to think it does, we would not be under the rule of a Democratic federal legislature right now.

gryphon202 on March 6, 2007 at 9:18 PM

Gross is an idiot. Whenever lefties like that say things like, “I fear … ” you know that a bunch of lies are about to be spewed. Ew, Gross.

Drum on March 6, 2007 at 9:22 PM

I was wishing Paula would have hit him with that mallet.

JetBoy on March 6, 2007 at 9:24 PM

Well, Mr. Gross, CNN et al seem quite emboldened. Well, with all of the cover they are getting from the “serious bloggers”, I’m not really surprised. Are you?

So now we see someone that agrees with Bryan about Ann, Michael Gross.

If I ever found myself in agreement with Gross, that would be my first indication that I was dead wrong. Luckily, it hasn’t happened yet.

Ann is an absolute treasure and one of the reasons that I love her so much is that I know that she will not bend in the slightest and her popularity will just go up. I would encourage her to hang on, but Ann has such incredible strength of character, that I know she will win in the end.

The only thing to come out of this fiasco is my estimation of the HotAir crew is tarnished ever so slightly.

Try to figure out who is on your side and spend less time in self righteous ass kissing. Loyalty is a virtue, self righteosness is not.

Toodles.

JayHaw Phrenzie on March 6, 2007 at 10:16 PM

People can reach agreement for completely different reasons. I don’t agree with Bryan’s position on Ann’s comment either but I know enough from his posts that he’s not “in agreement with Gross…”. Come on – it takes quite an extension of the imagination to reach such a conclusion.

This Michael Gross is deeply CDSd.

The other dude said HuffPoo took the comments off “immediately” – big fat lie! And he claimed to be a blogging expert.

He also called us “anonymous crazies” or something similar.

Entelechy on March 6, 2007 at 10:29 PM

I think Gross said it all from the left with “we are being provoked” to say outrageous things…just as innerciety blacks are “being provoked” to riot, Islamists are “being provoked” to hijack our airplanes and crash them into our buildings, gays are “being provoked” to give each other AIDS (actually, that last one can’t be written in such a way as to make any sense)…

It’s that blanket “blame it on sane/Conservative Americans” wildcard the left throws around to shift responsibility magically to those committed to responsibility.

Michael Gross doesn’t help his argument by going on a rant and shouting over everyone. He’ll intimidate others and, like me, gets tuned out.

Kini on March 7, 2007 at 12:02 AM

did Michael Gross just say (at the end of the clip) that the “common sense people” are provoked to say outrages things? Can someone explain to me how that makes sense?

And did he call the huffposters “common sense people”?

-they’re in no way insane… they’ve just been provoked. Coulter is a disease, the huffers embody common sense.

wow – this is possibly the most asinine comment i’ve ever read at hot air.

but then again, what should i expect from someone who thinks coulter is a national treasure??

oh, and dude – don’t leave a post like that and then claim that self-righteousness is not a virtue. glass houses and all that, don’t you know…

“try to figure out who’s on your side” huh? let me explain something to you – someone who makes a statement at a conservative convention that leads to money being raised for democrats ain’t on your side.

but then again, coulter’s never been on anyone’s side but her own.

personally, i’d damn sure rather have bryan watching my back.

My two year old nephew has calmer tantrums than this guy.
When a liberal is disagreed with, they choose one of two paths:
1. Declare their opinion fact, and end the conversation (ala Gourd or Maher)
or
2. Get louder, and louder…until those they’re arguing with give them a cookie to shut up.

RedCrow on March 7, 2007 at 2:44 AM

I think you accidentally misquoted. I heard him say “space between their ears,” not “eyes.” Good post. Keep it up!

This video and the behavior of Michael Gross ought to put this entire episode into perspective for those of you on the fence about Coulter’s comments.

Jetboy warns us not to bow to blind loyalty in Coulter’s case.

Ladies and gentlemen, you can condemn Coulter for her remark or not. It is your choice.

I don’t expect to convince any of you who choose to condemn Coulter to change your position. In fact, I gave up several days ago.

But know this. If you condemn her, you are on the side of Michael Gross and the Huffies. There is no ifs, ands, or buts about it. You make common cause with someone who thinks conservatives and Republicans are evil Nazis. You make common cause with people who HATE YOU. And for what?

For an empty exercise in moral superiority?

In my best “Mr. Bill” voice: “Oh, N-O-O-O! THAT’S not what Maher was saying – he just DENIED saying what everyone heard!” Sure. Gross’ begrudging acknowledgment that Maher’s remarks went too far speaks volumes. (The TSA folks hey probably had an easier time yanking that magnet out of PsychoIraqi’s rectum.) Idiot.

It was bad enough that us conservatives wanted to starve the children, destroy our precious green earth, let senior citizens suffer without health care, bring back slavery…now we are ignoring the constitution, sending our kids off to die, “spitting” in the face of congress.

Gee, we just can’t get anything right.

The more these yokels talk, the better it makes me feel being a conservative. This guy makes the same sense as the liberal posters on this site.

I would appreciate if you could explain this, and have a way just to get to the site itself.

I haven’t watched the Communist News Network since the airing of the sniper video involving the death of a US soldier. Appears I haven’t missed anything.

SPIFF1669 on March 7, 2007 at 10:28 AM

I support Ann Coulter despite the hate mongering going on on both sides of the aisle. She has a right to say what she wants and she should not get any heat about it, after all the MSM and the tinfoil hatted leftist loons don’t worry about the truly horrible things they say or post or comment and we, just shrug it away. Balls up, Ann.

As an aside, why..why do the mouths of the tinfoil hatted leftist loons always look so bad? What is it? Are they retaliating for getting called ugly in school? I mean, just look at this “Gross” guy, even his name fits. Or, they like Edwards, a silky pony!
