Not the first colorful episode he’s had before a judge. He was there to discuss letters he’d written to the local media about his drive-by jihad. Quoth his lawyer:
“He does have a severe mental illness and that mentall illness affects his actions and I believe affected his actions on the day in question and still affects his behavior and was affecting his behavior in court today,” Williams said.
They took him away to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

He grew up near Charlotte, NC, so he doesn’t need to fake the accent (ala O’B and Hil).
But it seems that calling a jihadi “mentally ill” for his actions might warrant his lawyer a little unwelcome attention from those who look more favorably on Taheri-Azar.

Great, another mental illness defense that will fail. I don’t know how his lawyer is going to use this defense effectively as this man did graduated from collage and therefor has some ability to reason.
Of course, the press will undoubtedly use this defense when reporting his trial. You’ll see all kinds of “he’s crazy, therefor innocent” excuses for his murderous behavior, and his behavior was murderous as he tried to KILL people. God forbid the press actually portraying a member of ‘the religion of peace’ as a criminal.

Why do they consider this a mental illness, and not other, more obvious behavioral patterns, such as preferring to exhibit reproductive actions with a member of the same sex, or working to make your society more dangerous to avowed enemies, or murdering absolutely innocent, unborn babies because of a perceieve “inconvenience”?

This is not necessarily a logical conclusion.
This nut’s performance in court is a plus to the sane among us, however; it will look even worse should this judge be sympathetic to the jihadi cause, and determined to let this guy skate.
Of course, more outrageous stuff has happened.

Taheri-azar is Iranian born so he probably wasnt just a convert.If the courts accept the mental illness plea,he’s just another crazy who took the”religian of peace” scriptures out of context because of his mental illness.But that would be saying all jihadists are crazy and the Cair folks are’nt going there.
I am curious about how islamic folks are going to play this if at all.It might be conveniently passed over unless someone “picked on” his religion and that furthered his mental illness.Oh the possibilities!

The strategy works to their advantage because they can now say that it’s not the Religion’s fault – it’s the mentally ill people’s (jihadis) fault. In other words, Islam is not broken – there’s a group of sick people doing all of this. The left will eat this up. It’s only a matter of time before we need to be more sensitive to these mentally ill people.

If he’s tough enough to say such things in open court, then let him be tough enough to not hide under the insanity defense.
We need a statute that would allow a judge to take a defendant during such an outburst, put him over his knee, and spank his backside in open court. Seriously, this man needs a public shaming.

Watching the video clip it is very apparent to me the guy really has some mental problems – probably has been off and on anti-depressants and anti-psychotics during his college experience. Those not only can cause suicidal thoughts and actions, but also homicidal thoughts and actions. You will only see more of these delusions being acted out in the name of some religion.
Having said that I do think that fundamental and fanatic adherance to Islam can also bring in a definite mental inbalance bluring the distinction between reality and fantasy. The ones really in denial – and I don’t mean the river in Eqypt- are the so called “educated” Islamic women who defend the burka and the Sharia law.
If the women in Islam could be taught martial arts where they could defend themselves against the beatings and honor killings we would have a much more civilized world. I can just visualize one of the four wives grabbing Ali by the beard while another gives him the knee thus giving the louse a real beating by his wives for a change. However, its hard to defend yourself when your periphial vision is reduced by the eye slit in your burka, so perhaps a redesinged burka would be in order.
No wonder some of these women that leave Islam and are outspoken critics want nothing to do with men and are lesbians or unmarried. I don’t blame them. However, not all men are like those peace loving guys from the Middle East.
