Video: Chris Matthews “drunk” on Hardball

posted at 6:39 pm on March 4, 2007 by Allahpundit

The Caveman getting lit live on the air is about the only thing that could get me to start watching his show.

Craig Ferguson uses this gag from time to time on Bush — one recovering alcoholic to another — but it’s surprisingly resilient. Find a guy with a reputation for saying goofy things and a habit of pronouncing S’s as Sh’s and you’re golden.

Update: Um, everyone understands this is an effect achieved with video editing software, right? He’s not really drunk. Geez.

Update: Also, I plucked it from YouTube. It’s not one of ours; if it were, it’d be hosted here and have the Hot Air slate.

I blocked MSNBC on my tv months ago, and I have not missed it since. In fact, I feel smarter.

BaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHHHHHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

“More on that SCANDAL in Walter Reed..”

Matthews–YOU are a scandal. How irresponsible to be drunk as a skunk and talk to one of the most RESPONSIBLE men in Americal today. What a contrast. You arsehole. You. ARE. A. Arse. Hole.

Just so we’re clear — you know Matthews isn’t really drunk and this effect was accomplished with video editing software, right?

C’mon AP, just embrace the truthiness.
Can you make him call someone a faggot? That would be awesome.

billy on March 4, 2007 at 6:55 PM

Do you ever leave non-sarcastic comments, billy? I don’t mind; I’m just curious.

Allahpundit on March 4, 2007 at 6:57 PM

Allah, that’s pretty damn funny.

Mortis on March 4, 2007 at 7:01 PM

He’s not drunk, just suffering from the deleterious effects of wetbrain.

Check the last thread.
Am I going to be the human being banned from the internets for being a smartass?

billy on March 4, 2007 at 7:05 PM

“Abu Ghraib…you know…”

Hilarious.

Greg Tinti on March 4, 2007 at 7:09 PM

Pretty funny… but sad that some were unaware that this isn’t real.

RightWinged on March 4, 2007 at 7:09 PM

My Dad thought that the special effects in the original Star Trek were photo realistic. Its no surprise that a couple people were fooled. You need to be more sensitive to old people.

Savage on March 4, 2007 at 7:18 PM

“Let’s play Hi-Ball!”

haha This stuff never gets old…

Is this what they’re doing to Paula Abdul? ‘Cause she’s still acting mighty strane on American Idol…

JetBoy on March 4, 2007 at 7:21 PM

“Abbuh GREB???”

fusionaddict on March 4, 2007 at 7:24 PM

That was pretty funny, and actually pretty well done. Didja notice how much he sounded like Barney on the Simpsons?

flipflop on March 4, 2007 at 7:26 PM

The killer line: “CRAAAA-ckle.”

Allahpundit on March 4, 2007 at 7:26 PM

“….Advigitagious”

JetBoy on March 4, 2007 at 7:31 PM

Is their video editing software available that can make Matthews sound intelligent?

fogw on March 4, 2007 at 7:52 PM

Strongbad tried that on Homestar.

MirCat on March 4, 2007 at 7:57 PM

At least he wasn’t drooling this time, and that didn’t even require video editing.

Oh, and will somebody please teach Mr Ridge how to tie a tie?

Misha I on March 4, 2007 at 8:04 PM

Freakin’ hilarious! And…for the first time I can actually understand him. He really SHOULD do the show drunk. Wouldn’t matter to his line of thinking anyway.

thedecider on March 4, 2007 at 8:11 PM

Will go down as a CLASSIC!
Funny stuff.
Only thing missing is a MaCaCa.

186k on March 4, 2007 at 8:11 PM

Oh, that was great.

He sure is a shloppy drunk.

mesablue on March 4, 2007 at 8:21 PM

did he just slur the word fa**ott?

wryteacher on March 4, 2007 at 8:31 PM

I would love to hear what a speech from Hillary would sound like with that “adjustment”.

Zorro on March 4, 2007 at 8:35 PM

I just ran this through my video authentication software and not one frame was edited. Chris Matthews was drunk on the air and we need to get him fired! Crank up the noise machine!

frankj on March 4, 2007 at 8:36 PM

That was the funniest thing I have seen in a while AP.

Hillarious….

I would like this software to be used on Rosie O’pig, also. Pretty please. :)

angryamerican on March 4, 2007 at 9:24 PM

“abu greb… you know”. that part was funny

Opinionnation on March 4, 2007 at 9:40 PM

When I saw that video without reading the notes I thought Matthews had suffered an incredible stroke & was seconds away from being dragged off the air.

So really, nothing new here.

Coronagold on March 4, 2007 at 9:43 PM

Guys, I didn’t create this. Sorry if there was confusion on that point.

Allahpundit on March 4, 2007 at 9:43 PM

Chris back on his LSD again??? LOL this was a hoot, thanks for the humor………me thinks

bones47 on March 4, 2007 at 10:34 PM

AP brings teh funny. Guaranteed.

Man, if all his shows were like that, I’d watch it religiously.

spmat on March 4, 2007 at 10:46 PM

AP you forgot to mention that MSNBC changed the name of Matthews’ show from “Hardball” to “Highball”.

CyberCipher on March 4, 2007 at 10:54 PM

I want to believe!

Iblis on March 5, 2007 at 12:17 AM

Wow, that is horrible.

WisCon on March 5, 2007 at 12:20 AM

Um… How is this manipulated? Seems to be a direct lift from Matthews’ show.

JinxMcHue on March 5, 2007 at 12:22 AM

I would like this software to be used on Rosie O’pig

Please… PLEASE… don’t start using the name “Rosie O’pig”. We already sound dumb enough saying “dhimmitube”, “dhimmicrat”, “democRAT”, “Clinton News Network”, “Hitlery”, etc.

If we start using names that don’t even share any phonetic qualities with the original word… well, let’s just say we’re screwed.

DaveS on March 5, 2007 at 12:57 AM

Ugh! I can’t use rosie o pig anymore?

dang, that’s one of my favs!

I didn’t realize just how real a manipulated video can appear. That’s scary for those in the public eye.

That vid reminded me of…..ME. about 30 years ago. ha!

csdeven on March 5, 2007 at 1:56 AM

Thing is with Matthews the title wasn’t too surprising.

Mazztek on March 4, 2007 at 6:45 PM

Ahaaa a good Bill-O fan. There you go, get all your info from Rush, Fox, Bill-O and Hannity, you are smart, NOT. Lock step, lock step, denial and STRONG WILL, unencumbered by the thought process or facts. You are just like Bush.

gmcjetpilot on March 5, 2007 at 4:30 AM

Are you SURE it was doctored? That was pretty stinking funny.

Candy Slice on March 5, 2007 at 8:27 AM

He said ‘Crackle’? I thought he said crack. Well, crackle doesn’t make too much more sense. Best part for me was the look on Tom Ridge’s face at the end; kind of expectent, a smile playing at the edges of his mouth; kinda like he couldn’t wait to see what Matthews was going to say next. Pretty much how people look when they are talking to drunks, small children, or Howard Dean (as long as he doesn’t have any sharps; then everyone is cowering behind furniture.) Funny stuff.

austinnelly on March 5, 2007 at 8:42 AM

Allah – thats real funny -I have been telling you – Matthews smokes pot he is not a boozer. no other excuse for his time warp mentality – the guy thinks it is 1968 and his eyes look like the camera lights are blinding him. Here is the real test – get a guest on his show to put a bag of chocolate chip cookies in front of him. hmmmmmmm
