Ubiquitous media typo of the day!

posted at 2:36 pm on March 2, 2007 by Allahpundit

Reader “insomni” caught this on Reuters this morning and forwards it along with the question, “Wishful thinking?” Heh.

crash.png

There are certain words so similar to words I type frequently that I often misspell them by force of habit. That’s probably what happened to the Reuters copy editor. But check out this clip from CNN this afternoon about the awful bus accident in Atlanta. The headline’s right, then wrong, then right again in the span of 50 seconds. Exit question one: Prank or typo? Exit question two: How many pretty vicious rants and important action alerts would this have generated if it had happened to a lefty pol?

They have to stop drinking on the job.

Remember the flashing X’s on Cheney?

Get your laws off my bus.

Attila (Pillage Idiot) on March 2, 2007 at 2:43 PM

Oh the horror–thorns and thistles splattered everywhere!!!

Vanquisher on March 2, 2007 at 2:44 PM

Well, it’s not as if Barack Osama hasn’t been the victim of his share of typos.

flipflop on March 2, 2007 at 2:47 PM

Maybe they were talking about an Alaska bush pilot?

flipflop on March 2, 2007 at 2:48 PM

Heh, if the HuffPoos had their wish, Mr. Cheney would have been blown up a few days ago, Mr. Bush could have crashed by bus today, and, voilà, Mrs. Pelosi would be sworn in. Ahh, the possibilities…

Entelechy on March 2, 2007 at 2:50 PM

Does this ever happen on FOX? Or say, a small, local station?

Seems like it’s a CNN thing lately…

JetBoy on March 2, 2007 at 2:51 PM

They are just making sure that everyone knows who’s fault it is.

E L Frederick (Sniper One) on March 2, 2007 at 2:56 PM

Woot!

I got the starter Digg in!

And to answer the exit questions;

1) I’d say it’s a snarky prank.

2) TONS of them. And it would be front-page news and the lead story on every MSM network and paper.

wearyman on March 2, 2007 at 2:59 PM

Rants, schmants. That would be grounds for A SPECIAL COMMENT from the Olberdouche!!

KelliD on March 2, 2007 at 3:04 PM

CNN’s headline could also be used if Hasselbeck quits the view because of Rosie. Maybe a tweek to ‘clash,’ but they’re pros at CNN, I bet they’ll figure it out.

Wineaholic on March 2, 2007 at 3:07 PM

The headline’s right, then wrong, then right again in the span of 50 seconds. Exit question one: Prank or typo?

I’m guessing Jack Cafferty screws it up and Kiren Chetry makes the correction.

fogw on March 2, 2007 at 3:09 PM

Prank or typo?

Freudian slip.

aengus on March 2, 2007 at 3:11 PM

BUS DERANGEMENT SYNDROME…I’ll never ride one again.
.
.
… and here we were, all gettin’ ready to join gore-gang-green. Guess I’ll have to buy a couple more trees.

How many pretty vicious rants and important action alerts would this have generated if it had happened to a lefty pol?

Snort. That’s funny.

Prank? I doubt.

The sort of Freudian slip that psychologists make a bundle on? Yeah. I think that “typo” was a not so subtle peek into the collective subconcious of the media.

It is about time for another wootoff, ya know?

BUS DERANGEMENT SYNDROME

LOL!
One mistake is a typo. Two mistakes by two separate MSM outlets…I question the timing.

BohicaTwentyTwo on March 2, 2007 at 3:16 PM

The “s” and “h” keys aren’t exactly right next to each other on the keyboard. That “h” is an extra stroke of the right index finger.

Pretty stupid of the thousands of layers of editors and fact-checkers to miss a typo this blatantly obvious.

I naturally assumed this was a story on the latest polls….

honora on March 2, 2007 at 3:24 PM

More people will see that here than actually saw it on CNN.

Rick on March 2, 2007 at 3:28 PM

Well I’ve never actually tried, but I’m guessing not.

honora on March 2, 2007 at 3:30 PM

“BUS DERANGEMENT SYNDROME”. LMAO!!!!

This also might be another example of a generations’ worth(since the 1960′s) of a liberal-controlled public education system that has failed to emphasize “the three R’s”.

kevcad on March 2, 2007 at 3:30 PM

What would have really gave it away is if the headline read:

“Deadly BushCo Crash!”

PinkyBigglesworth on March 2, 2007 at 3:33 PM

PinkyBigglesworth on March 2, 2007 at 3:33 PM

Better yet:

“Deadly f#*%ing piece of sh*t BushCo Crash!”

Rick on March 2, 2007 at 3:37 PM

Something tells me this thread is starting to become lib fodder.

dingoatemebaby on March 2, 2007 at 3:54 PM

This is proof of BDS. Their hatred for the President is spilling into their work.

Rick, the self-control you’re asking for requires discipline and maturity. Not exactly honora’s strong suits.

Kini on March 2, 2007 at 2:40 PM

The X signifies a cut in tape. It’s not a conspiracy by CNN to make people hate Dick Cheney.

I’ve been waiting for the left and the MSM to blame the tornadoes and the bus crash on Bush and global warming…in fact ol’Katie Couric already tried to use GW to explain the tornadoes..so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to blame the bus crash on it too.

I thought it was on Rush’s show today that a caller said MSNBC was asking Sen. Shelby if he thought FEMA had been slow to react to the tornado.

91Veteran on March 3, 2007 at 1:16 AM

This is normal for the MSM. A few years back, MSNBC added an extra “g” to to the first name of Republican strategist Niger Innis.

Vic on March 3, 2007 at 2:29 AM

Please Fox news put Mark Foley (D) on all day. Ha ha ha.

You remember that republican congressman from Florida and gay child predator who was in charge of internet child protection. Brother, you can write this stuff. He quit and went into rehab for drinking, even though the GOP knew he was a perv for years. I did not know drinking caused gay pedophilia. My gosh hypocrites. When will you learn they are ALL liars and cheats and both parties do not deserve unconditional worship. That is why our government is so screwed up.

Party lock steppers are so willing to forgive their party to stick it to the other. Republicans are no better than Democrats; Conservatives are not holier than thou Liberals.

How about the fact our country will be broke by 2024. The WILD spending is crazy. The deficit is going to KILL us. Thanks BUSH – Great president or Greatest president? 21 more months of Bush, Yea! Boy, he had STRONG WILL. He stuck to his guns, unwilling to change, despite the facts, critical thinking and leadership, but he had STRONG WILL!
