CPAC Day 2: Giuliani
posted at 1:58 pm on March 2, 2007 by Ian
Giuliani drew a huge crowd, the largest I’ve seen by far. Let me just put it this way: the ballroom where he was speaking was packed, the hallway leading to the ballroom was packed and people surrounded monitors broadcasting his speech. Everyone seems to love Rudy. Oddly, there are no Rudy t-shirts or stickers floating around but it seems everytime I turn around I see someone in a Brownback or Romney shirt reminding me they speak at 1:30 and 2:45 respectively.
From what I heard standing fifteen feet away from a monitor with at least two dozen people around it, I liked. But then again I do have a bias.
Bryan and Michelle made it in and have video, hopefully we will clip piece of it at some point.
Captain Ed is Rudy blogging. I’ll update with reactions from CPAC bloggers as they come in.
The American Mind chimes in.
The internets are back up and The Boss has posted some money quotes:
“I believe the Republican Party’s greatest contribution is when we give more freedom to people.”
“America will prevail against the Islamic terrorists. I have no doubt.”
“Maybe we made a mistake in calling this the war on terrorism. This is not our war on them. This is their war on us.” (Prolonged applause.)
“This war ins over when they stop planning to come over here and kill us. Until then, we have to remain on offense against terrorists.”
“America has the right ideas. We should not be embarrassed by ourselves. We are the luckiest people in the world.”

Brilliant and it will stick!!!
Curageous and inspiring!!!
I love that Mr. Giuliani was compared to Mrs. Thatcher.
Among those running today, he’s definitely my man!

Loved reading about it. His quotes were wonderful, especially:
and
Everything everyone else has been trying to say, in 30 minutes (or more) speeches, Rudy has put in a single quote. I seem to remember another Republican president who could dot that.
amerpundit on March 2, 2007 at 3:29 PM
He’s got my (and my families) unconditional vote. Rudy!
amerpundit on March 2, 2007 at 3:29 PM
It’s Rudy-mentary!
Vincenzo on March 2, 2007 at 3:47 PM
I’m listening, Rudy, but show me some more.

Ok, I just want to understand something here. A lot of you say you hate McCain for McCain/Feingold. You say McCain was practically ripping up the constitution. Well, if anyone saw this video clip of The Real Rudy, then you saw where he said “I am a strong supporter of McCain/Feingold, always have been.” He goes on to say that if he had been in the Senate he would have voted for it.
So…?????? Explain to me how he differs on campaign finance reform?

Hear, Hear Rudy.
x95b10 on March 2, 2007 at 4:24 PM
I can’t.
Can’t explain why this abortion got bi-partisan support.
Can’t explain why Bush signed it into law even though he said it was unconstitutional.
Can’t explain why the Supreme Court upheld this clear violation of free speech.
Can’t explain why the media led the cheers for a trashing of the first amendment.
But I can expain why right thinking people everywhere want to hold St. John accountable for this monstrosity of a law:
He was the Republican to proud to put his name on it.
billy on March 2, 2007 at 4:34 PM
Rudy, like W, is not truely conservative. But he get’s it on a couple of very large issues. Does he have a position on the Fair Tax? That would probably determine my vote.
conservativecaveman on March 2, 2007 at 4:35 PM
I never hear much about his economic plan. Given that he’s unapologetic about fighting terrorists (and calling them terrorists), I’d be willing to bend a little more on his anti-gun stance and his support for McCain-Feingold and “comprehensive immigration reform” if he was committed to keeping the Bush tax cuts in place and cutting spending.

Really stepped on my last line. Meant to say:
He was the only Republican proud to put his name on it.
billy on March 2, 2007 at 4:51 PM
He cut taxes and spending and ran a budjet surplus as Mayor of New York City.
That impresses me. If he can do it in NYC, he can do it Washington.

Any News on Duncan Hunter?
PinkyBigglesworth on March 2, 2007 at 4:58 PM
Let me just get this straight. He is pro-choice (even PBA), he is pro-gun control, he is pro-gay rights, and he is pro-amnesty for illegals, AND he is for campaign finance reform.
billy, you don’t think Rudy would have been proud to put his name on it?? It sure sounded like it to me.
who are we kidding here? Really.
Rightwingsparkle on March 2, 2007 at 5:03 PM
I like Rudy…I really do. I want to support him. But he’s just not a good friend of the 2nd amendment.
flipflop on March 2, 2007 at 5:08 PM
I don’t like Rudy, I really don’t…are there any real candidates at CPAC this year?
Jose Chupacabra on March 2, 2007 at 5:25 PM
RWS,
McCain-Feingold marched its way through Congress, teh White House, and SCOTUS with the media just cheering it along.
Ideally, they would all be lined up against a wall (metaphorically, of course)
But since that just isn’t possible, why don’t we destroy the political ambitions of the two men who proposed this anti-American POS in the first place?
Those two would of course be Sens. McCain and Feingold.
billy on March 2, 2007 at 5:28 PM
He’s got a good stance on the war, which is issue #1 for me, but I’m still not buying it.
Protecting our soveriegnty through borders and enforcement of laws and the right to keep and bear arms are inextricable parts of the war. His stance on those issues undermines his willingness to fight the WoT.
At least he didn’t snub the CPAC like McVain.
NTWR on March 2, 2007 at 6:04 PM
Destroy the political ambitions of the men who proposed it, yet elect another President who greatly supports it?
Doesn’t make sense to me.
Rightwingsparkle on March 2, 2007 at 6:05 PM
Ok.
Let’s all get behind a major candidate,i.e. one who can beat Hillary! or Prince Obama, who led a spirited fight against McCain-Feingold…
Ok, new plan: let’s at least not vote for the guy behind McCain-Feingold.
billy on March 2, 2007 at 6:20 PM
billy,
Then you better get on the Romney bandwagon.
Rightwingsparkle on March 2, 2007 at 6:41 PM
Rudy is a gun-grabber.

Rightwingsparkle on March 2, 2007 at 6:41 PM
I won’t vote for McCain, Rudy, or Romney in the Primary… I will however vote for anyone but McCain in the general. If he’s the nominee the Dems win, plain and simple.
