Check with me when you’re Cronkite’s age. Or better yet, when you are caring for a parent that age. You don’t like the guy, that’s one thing, give him hell, call him all kinds of names.

But the Depends jokes? A little respect for age is a mark of a civilized society, don’t you think?

You ought to put up the other nonagenarian moment, though, Ian. After the debacle of Cronkite’s Iraq War “feelings”, Hank Plante sequed to talk of the early start on the 2008 elections and Cronkite slipped over almost immediately to Obama and how he is rushing it.

Cronkite said he didn’t think it would be a color problem but the problem would be Obama’s age.

Cronkite: “He’s still young. Quite young. In his young twenties. That’s a little too early.”

Hank helped him with that one, too.

Somebody needs to tell Walter it’s time to stay out of the limelight; this is like watching a sports figure past his prime still going onto the field.
