Video: KP’s vlog debuts

posted at 10:57 pm on February 28, 2007 by Allahpundit

A surprisingly good first effort for a woman with such a terrible case of jaundice. Seriously, do we have to send Bryan over to the Fox News studios to show them how to capture natural skin tones for web video? The girl’s more orangey than George Hamilton and Keith Olbermann combined.

She’s very smooth, as always, but she hasn’t quite figured out what to do with her hands yet. Believe it or not, that can be a thorny problem when you’re standing in for a minutes-long medium shot. The boss solves it elegantly with the mutual hand clasp. I’m sure KP will figure something out.

Her topic: the many, many would-be rapists she encountered on her way to John Edwards’s campaign headquarters in “Second Life.” Click the image to watch.

kpvlog.jpg

Oh, she finally gave me the green light to post that video clip I mentioned the other day that had me laughing for about 18 hours. It’s only three seconds long but it is, quite simply, one of the goofiest intros you’ll ever see on America television. She’s a trooper for having gone along with it, and even more of a trooper for letting me post it knowing that it’s destined to become a running gag around here. Poor KP.

I saw that news segment when it initially aired. There’s actually two sides to Second Life. There’s “Teen Second Life” for kids 17 and younger which has several filters for language, graphics, etc. Then there’s the adult Second Life, where basically anything goes. I liked her choice of avatar. Although, I’ve never actually seen her from a rear view, it’s almost exactly as I imagined her back…side… would be. Good job.

As for that intro… I foresee a recurring role as Jack Bauer’s sidekick in her future!

SilverStar830 on February 28, 2007 at 11:09 PM

Powers to the people.

unamused on February 28, 2007 at 11:12 PM

That intro was so great. I kept waiting for her and Michelle to form Voltron or something.

Alex K on February 28, 2007 at 11:15 PM

KP did an alright job describing the world in Second Life. Those who write anything about SL who haven’t seen much will write about how it’s so sexual and what not. But KP didn’t mention the large communities of scripters, designers — the REAL talented people. It’s an amazing “game” with smut making up MAYBE 5%. I guess it’s true though, sex sells. Other than that, I thought she did a great job for her first time.

Ian on February 28, 2007 at 11:17 PM

Hmmm. Lemme see…

Obi-Wan: “Use the Powers Luke.” or

Darth Vader: “The Powers is strong with this one.”

Naaah. It’s just not the same.

My collie thinks that it might work for a Star Trek episode, though.

snort…chuff…chortle…

BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

What the hell was that intro from?

Fox News Troopers?

Bishonen Sailor Stringer: Stringer Moon? perhaps?

It is cruel to use the media to hurt the innocent! For Love and Justice, I am the pretty sailor suited Stringer: Stringer Moon! In the name of the Fox News I will punish you!

or is it “Morphin’ time”?

BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA

POWERZ!!

Is that her “Heroes” Strength?

Save the blogpost, save the world!

Mazztek on February 28, 2007 at 11:23 PM

I was wondering when a clip from that show was going to show up on Hot Air. No one ever mentioned it, so I was afraid we weren’t supposed to or something.

frankj on February 28, 2007 at 11:25 PM

KP is a good egg! Thoughtful, well-reasoned, persuasive. More like KP would make the Dems a better party!

petefrt on February 28, 2007 at 11:26 PM

Now I love KP if only for the fact that she seems like the only Dem willing to discuss and debate the facts of an issue rather than spew mindless talking points. (Bob Beckel is a close second, but he dodges questions using humor as a distraction too often.)

But you’ve got to admit that intro is freakin hilarious.

and yes, after a few minutes on youtube… I’ve found the appropriate clip.

chuckle…short…

Jones Zemkophill on February 28, 2007 at 11:37 PM

Or maybe this.

forged rite on February 28, 2007 at 11:39 PM

Kirsten is an excellent public speaker. She actually appears very comfortable in front of the camera and is very easy to listen to – not to mention being easy on the eyes. I actually understood, word-for-word, every point she wanted to convey. I agree the hands were a bit busy and distracting, but that’s an easy thing for someone like her to overcome.

The points she made, were very interesting and left me with a question: why would a presidential hopeful align himself with such seedy elements like this? Is his campaign so bankrupt for ideas on reaching out to people that this is all they can come up with? Is he so detached from managing his campaign that he doesn’t realize what his campaign affililates itself with? This seems so implausible – even for the air-headed Silky Pony.

thedecider on February 28, 2007 at 11:43 PM

I found someone that can help KP with her “orange” look….

PinkyBigglesworth on February 28, 2007 at 11:46 PM

We love KP.

Enrique on February 28, 2007 at 11:47 PM

My guess would be that Edwards aligned himself with these elements because they are the Democrat base. A cursory stroll through Digg will show you this is the stuff they live on.

forged rite on February 28, 2007 at 11:47 PM

Oh yeah… the blog video… forgot about that… heh “Powers

ahem.

thedecider on February 28, 2007 at 11:43 PM

Meh. second lifers?

An attempt to align his campaign with the most apathetic demographic of the nerdcore MMORPGers?

I mean at least games like World of Warcraft & City of Heroes/Villains have “A Game” hidden among the innane nature of MMORPGs.

But Second Life? how about “Get A Life”. Any gamer that hasn’t realised that they can do all that stuff in the game BETTER in REAL reality are sadly ignorant of the benefits of REAL reality.

Enrique on February 28, 2007 at 11:47 PM

You can have her. As for me, I am not able to look at her or any other prominent Democrat these days without seeing visions of Nancy Pelosi and Ted Kennedy hovering around her like ghostly avatars.

Now how hot does she look?

Exit question: which side will she be cheering for during the March 17th Gathering of Eagles?

Anton on February 28, 2007 at 11:59 PM

Jones Zemkophill on February 28, 2007 at 11:50 PM

You know, that’s really always been my feeling too. I know a lot of “gamers”, and frankly, in the back of my mind I keep thinking “get a freakin’ life”. Reality is so much more fun and interesting!

thedecider on March 1, 2007 at 12:00 AM

You know when I was at Tulane in the early 80′s I wrote a paper on the upcoming internet the “Perils of Pornography” and was roundly criticised except the University backed the paper much to my surprise at the time.

Now, its sad we have the lowest of the low, heck I was just saying in the paper how fast nekkid pictures would get online.

Did I fall short…..
EricPWJohnson on March 1, 2007 at 12:12 AM

That depends on the yardstick with which you measure yourself against. Porn is a billion-dollar industry. Integrity and character, however, are priceless.

Once the hairpiece showed up, I forgot I was watching her vlog, instead, I thought I was listening to her read something by Douglas Adams. :)

So, is KP also the scary green eye at the start of Fox News Watch?

Karl on March 1, 2007 at 1:52 AM

Check out the pie chart on KP’s website. I was surprised sister/twin sex was tied with hermaphadite sex. I never would have guessed.

that intro was brilliant! I’d make that my vlog intro if I had one like that of me!

I never new how wacky second life was… It makes World of Warcrack seem benign by comparison….

liquidflorian on March 1, 2007 at 3:43 AM

I wasn’t doing to say it, but…KP’s avatar has a really nice ass. :D

I was in Second Life for all of about 2 days and got totally sick of it. The technology is outdated, the graphics suck, and the world is a proliferation of strip clubs, orgies, and furry pr0n.

The girl’s more orangey than George Hamilton and Keith Olbermann combined.

I would have gone with “John Kerry on his way to presidential debates”, but yours is good too.

As for that KP clip.. hilarious! I can’t believe I didn’t catch it when watching the show… Did Malkin do anything like that too?

By the way, what’s the deal with “It’s out there”? There has been no promotion of the show here or on Michelle’s site.. and at a glance I don’t see anything at Powers-Point… What’s going on?

Also, what is this Vlog of KPs? Is it something for foxnews.com?

RightWinged on March 1, 2007 at 7:46 AM

As for what to do with her hands, she should use the amazing power in them to heal the sick and stop global warming.

Valiant on March 1, 2007 at 7:53 AM

the hands…the hands!

Brent on March 1, 2007 at 8:18 AM

Well, the goofiest use of computer graphics ever was (anyone remember this?) when ABC News had Lynn Sherr (I think) covering the election, and she’d hold her hand flat over the desk and slowly lift it while the FX guys would superimpose a glowing column rising under it to symbolize the tally.

And of course she’d have to watch the monitor to make sure her hand was in the right spot.

God that was stupid.

saint kansas on March 1, 2007 at 9:00 AM

Give that oompaloopa a podium or, at least, a coffee mug! Anything to grab onto instead of clutching at the air. I offer myself. Just kidding. I prefer KP in the real world.

Salient points…all of them. At least one democrat out there not raising my blood pressure…except where it counts.

ej_pez on March 1, 2007 at 9:11 AM

KP,

Just so you know, there are many of us here that respect you more than to make rude sexist comments about you.

Keep up the good work. (Keeping us conservatives on our toes.)

csdeven on March 1, 2007 at 9:33 AM

Very nice effort KP. Now open your blog up to comments.

Dread Pirate Roberts VI on March 1, 2007 at 9:38 AM

and even more of a trooper for letting me post it knowing that it’s destined to become a running gag around here. Poor KP.

I thought the clip looked good, and KP looked good in the clip.

But one of this type of clip, and only one time, is probably enough. Otherwise it will indeed become a running gag.

Lawrence on March 1, 2007 at 9:48 AM

Very nice effort KP. Now open your blog up to comments.

Ironic that she closed the comments section because of the same left-wing retards that we complain about. Maybe we should introduce her to classical liberalism.

JasonG on March 1, 2007 at 9:49 AM

Oh, yeah. The “Powers” thing was laugh-out-loud funny.

But KP is definitely now my favorite Mortal Kombat character.

Professor Blather on March 1, 2007 at 10:37 AM

Pretty cool concept second life. Except all the sexual deviant stuff. I think KP needs to figure out what to do with her hands when she speaks standing up. Looked odd to me

RightWinged on March 1, 2007 at 7:46 AM

I was wondering the same thing myself. What gives?

Definite shades of Raiden in that intro, as well as shades of Ricky Bobby with the hand work. ;)

Readymade on March 1, 2007 at 11:16 AM

that intro is ripe for ytmnd.

jummy on March 1, 2007 at 11:30 AM

Pretty good for a first vlog. Yeah, the hands were a little awkward, but I’m sure she’ll get it. Wow, that intro was like something out of Minority Report.

vcferlita on March 1, 2007 at 11:30 AM

AP, are you sure it’s a camera/software problem? I agree with Pinky at 11:46PM. I think maybe Fox pulled her aside and said “Kirsten, Kirsten, Kirsten – Sweetie – You’re just lookin’ too peaked out there. You’re scarin’ the kids. Here, we got this self-tanner we want you to try…”

eeyore on March 1, 2007 at 11:31 AM

Sounds like there are a lot of losers on Second Life. No wonder Edwards is on there too.

At first glance it looks like bad lighting and/or no color correction.

- The Cat

P.S. Her intro reminds me of something on Wonder Woman

MirCat on March 1, 2007 at 11:37 AM

Lol, I can’t stop coming back to watch that intro clip…. “Powers!” (~laser noise~)… I’m going to be hearing that in my sleep.

RightWinged on March 1, 2007 at 12:59 PM

Actually,

KP is not the first to stumble upon the sewer of the internet that Second Life is. Something Awful has been doing a biweekly column skewering Second life and it’s denizens for some time now. You can read it here. But be forewarned, the link I provided is absolutely NOT safe for work! There is quite a bit of strong language on Something Awful, so be aware before you go there that it is really an adults-only site.

That said, they do an excellent job of exposing (with tongue firmly planted in foul-mouthed cheek) the really nasty stuff that goes on there, and have great fun mocking and disrupting it at the same time. A recommended read for adults with strong stomachs.

wearyman on March 1, 2007 at 1:11 PM

In re: the hands: She should watch a few of Michelle’s Vents, and she’ll get it. Three basic positions for the hands, rotate those for while, and once in a while a little emphasis. Even easier, adjust the camera angle so her hands are out of the screen when down by her sides–bring them up for emphasis. I agree the orange looks like a technical problem not a skin problem.

smellthecoffee on March 1, 2007 at 1:24 PM

Michelle nailed the ‘hand thing’ – tips for today

Nervous hands: Nervousness may be manifested by increased hand gestures or fidgety movements (e.g., twirling hair, pushing hair behind ears, playing with jewelry, jiggling coins in pockets). Keeping your hands loosely clasped in front of you can help.

I liked it b/c she speaks so well, but I wish Allah didn’t say anything about her hands; I was oddly transfixed by their insane movements the whole time.
