[...] Notice that the story above still listed Iran as an enemy of the US. That makes a great deal of sense for many reasons, not least of which is Iran’s meddling with the insurgency and Shia militias in Iraq. So what to make of this? President George Bush signalled a dramatic shift in his Middle East policy last night by agreeing to discuss the future of Iraq with Iran and Syria. [...]

600 prisoners? Multiple IED caches found? Positive statements on striking extremists by the folk who are out there at the pointy end of the stick? Wowee!

Uh, 600 prisoners isn't a success, it is a failure. Six hundred dead Shia terrorists is a success....

BadBrad, yeah, there was a piece on Opinionjournal last week about them. But I certainly haven't heard any of our MSM hotshots pushing officials for comment on them. Or Steyr.

Also, has there been any more coverage on the 800 .50cal sniper rifles that Steyr sold to Iran (with the approval the austrian gov't and against the protest of the US and UK) that immediately ended up in insurgent hands? 45 days after initial delivery a US officer was shot and killed through the armored door of his HMMWV by one of these rifles. As of two weeks ago we had captured more than 100 of these Steyr/Iranian rifles (I imagine they are serial numbered and not too hard to track).

Buy guns while you can... since new ban was introduced in the house this month... but NOT Steyr.

Imaging a can filled with plastic explosives open at one end. Then place a copper plate on top. The plastic explosive is shaped (ie shaped charge) to focus all the explosive force on the center of the copper lid. This causes the copper lid to be formed ('explosive formed') into a aerodynamically shaped projectile with a molten tip (where the blast hits) that is very accurate and can be aimed out to like 50+meters. It is this molten tiped projectile that penetrates armor not the explosive blast itself. Previously the only use if EFPs was by Hezbollah against Israel... and we all know who taught Hezbollah how to do it.

It's similiar to how a tank's sabot round works in that you have molten metal splaying about inside a crew compartment of a combat vehicle that's hit. Bad news for the occupants. Ammo will cook off too so it's double trouble if one hits you.

Is this anything like a field expedient Claymore Mine?

From what I understand, no. It's a plastic explosive-driven bomb with a copper mesh embedded inside of it. The bomb is shaped so that when the explosive goes off, the copper inside is liquified and hurled out at high velocity like a molten cannon ball. The shape of the device can be used to direct the ball's trajectory. According to the troops who described them to us, these high speed projectiles can go through just about anything.

Who was the nut who designed these new uniforms, especially the placement of rank?

I have some complaints about the new ACU (Army Combat Uniform) too, but all in all it is an improvement. Don't love the velcro everywhere, pin-on skill badges, or rank placement, but they are comfortable, and most importantly, they do not get ironed, and the boots don't get shined.

I'm no expert, but I would guess that if you are in front of a Congressional Committee you want the stars blazing on your shoulder. In a war zone, not so much.

So, more proof is being presented from the field of direct Iranian involvement against us in Iraq, and it's cost in the lives of American troops. Those in the know have known this for a long time. It should have been obvious to anyone else.

Up next will be the media, and select politicians, downplaying such reports and evidence. Some will go further, and try to twist such reports and evidence into an attack on Bush, that he is lying to start another disastrous war against Iran.

Now, my question is,who will ask them the right questions? Such as "So you don't have a problem with a foreign power killing American troops, just a problem with pointing out, or worse yet, doing something about it?"

The predictable response will be "How dare you question our patriotism" and "we support the troops". To which the correct response would be, "If you are not expressing a problem with Iran killing our troops, and instead looking to score political points over their dead bodies while carrying Iran's water, then yes, I am questioning your patriotism, and wish to know exactly who's troops you support, since it sure as hell isn't ours".

If anyone has the balls, that is.

Just sayin'.

So, more proof is being presented from the field of direct Iranian involvement against us in Iraq, and it’s cost in the lives of American troops.

Such as “So you don’t have a problem with a foreign power killing American troops, just a problem with pointing out, or worse yet, doing something about it?”

The predictable response will be “How dare you question our patriotism” and “we support the troops”. To which the correct response would be, “If you are not expressing a problem with Iran killing our troops, and instead looking to score political points over their dead bodies while carrying Iran’s water, then yes, I am questioning your patriotism, and wish to know exactly who’s troops you support, since it sure as hell isn’t ours”.

If anyone has the balls, that is.

Just sayin’.

Speak no evil of terrorists
See no evil in terrorists
Hear no evil from terrorists

Using the same example the same could be said of those three POS's if we exchange "good" for "evil" and "Bush" for "terrorists".

My friend's son just lost his legs in Iraq. We have proof that Iran is supplying the weapons to do this to American military. What are we waiting for?

600 prisoners? Multiple IED caches found? Positive statements on striking extremists by the folk who are out there at the pointy end of the stick? Wowee!

Intelligence-driven, Iraqi-enabled strikes whacking away at the baddies... Oh Boy! I can't wait to see the MSM carry the good news to all of America! This is really going to be an uplifting and proud moment for all of...

Oh no. Wait. MSM will bury this like it was a fermenting zombie. It's GOOD news from Iraq.

Can't happen.

600 captured Shia activists ain't peanuts. I wonder what's going to happen to them. Hopefully they'll be out of action until a stable government emerges.

Which will be a while.
