Video: Coulter on Gore: “he may be a hypocrite but at least he’s not a moron”

Ann Coulter along with environmental whackivists Daryl Hannah and Jon Coifman appeared on Hannity & Colmes last night to discuss Algore’s enormous energy bill.
Coulter laid out Gore in this gem:
Coulter: “I kind of respect him more, it shows he is not stupid enough to believe all this global warming nonsense. He’s trying to get us to believe. Okay, fine, he may be a hypocrite but at least he’s not a moron.”
Al Gore’s office sent a response to “Think” Progress using the same rhetoric they used last time:
1) Gore’s family has taken numerous steps to reduce the carbon footprint of their private residence, including signing up for 100 percent green power through Green Power Switch, installing solar panels, and using compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy saving technology.
2) Gore has had a consistent position of purchasing carbon offsets to offset the family’s carbon footprint — a concept the right-wing fails to understand. Gore’s office explains:
What Mr. Gore has asked is that every family calculate their carbon footprint and try to reduce it as much as possible. Once they have done so, he then advocates that they purchase offsets, as the Gore’s do, to bring their footprint down to zero.
These people obviously don’t get the point — or refuse to acknowledge it. The problem isn’t so much as Gore’s consumption of energy, but that he asks us common folk to live a modest lifestyle while he’s living it up. Hypocrite indeed.
Like Hannity said, these “carbon offsets” are nothing but a farce. These “carbon offsets” are nothing more than indulgences in the Church of Liberalism.
Update (AP): “If we’re looking at gondolas floating down Wall Street in 20 years, what good does it do to plant some trees?”

Love the phrase on the screencap: “Warming Hysteria”.
Yep, it’s a cult thing. Government’s gonna punish you from on high for made-up sins.
Libs, you own it.

that was a good line… I just wish she wouldn’t act just like idiot-liberals in her refusals to answer direct questions. And it would be nice if she would stop filibustering with moronic exaggerations (what was with her and the obsession of candle-power). she can be entertaining… but she is just as annoying as the far-left.
Opinionnation on February 27, 2007 at 1:11 PM
How did that work? In medieval times if you commited a sin, you paid your tithe to the church and you were absolved of your sin.
That’s what I think of every time Gore’s publicity people trot out the line that “he bought offsetting carbon credits.” The rich buy their absolution, the poor have to earn theirs.
taznar on February 27, 2007 at 1:12 PM
If you take the “casbn offset” concept to it’s logical extreme, there will have to be a permanent underclass living in dirt. Oh, another Liberal plan with “unintended” consequences? I think not. Their track record would seem to suggest otherwise.

As anyone who has the power to think logically knows, man-made global warming is a farce. Global warming itself is doubtful, as the earth’s temperature has only gone up .6 Celsius in the last hundred years. Since most of the readings these days are taken in urban areas across the globe, they have the downtown effect skewing the results upwards.
Carbon footprints: Al Gore is an important liberal Democrat, so his lifestyle demands a gigantic mansion, personal jets, three vacation homes, heated pools, etc. But he is trying to make these places energy efficient, so his carbon footprint is zero.
What a hypocrite!

Not that I wish bad things to happen but the one thing that
wouldmight shut these enviroweenies up would be a nice big volcanic eruption. Or perhaps that asteroid that is supposed to hit Earth. As I told some of my siblings, this would solve the problem of human-caused global warming real quick. It worked with them so why shouldn’t it work with these morons.JohnnyD on February 27, 2007 at 1:20 PM
Anybody know the carbon footprint for Coulter’s black dress? Inquiring minds, and all that…
Kid from Brooklyn on February 27, 2007 at 1:21 PM
Has anyone found out just how much Al has spent?
I’d love to know. I bet it’s less than 300 bucks, either that or he is lying.
With this lifestyle, he had better be buying every carbon credit that he can get his big ham hands on. Looks like his budget is going more to lasagna credits than carbon credits.

right2bright on February 27, 2007 at 1:42 PM
Haha. I was arguing with a buddy of mine about this the other day. I pointed out how hypocritical Gore was considering his home energy usage, private jets, SUVs, etc. My buddy’s response was so rediculous it made me laugh. He tried to defend it by saying,
“Gore’s message to the world far outweighs his personal consumption. He’s a big picture thinker!”
My response to him was:
“using this “logic”:
-A civil rights activist who owns a slave would just be a “big picture thinker.”
-A House Majority Leader vowing to run the “most ethical Congress ever” then taking bribes left and right would just be a “big picture thinker.”
-A priest who preaches community service and funds children’s programs and later gets caught molesting a little boy is just a “big picture thinker.”
-A “say no to drugs” activist who later dies of an overdose is just a “big picture thinker.”
-The PETA activists who recently got convicted for abusing animals are just “big picture thinkers.”
-The fire fighter who got convicted last year for starting the wild fires out west was nothing more then a “big picture thinker.”
-A police chief who gets busted for murdering someone is just a “big picture thinker.”
But then you might say to me, “but hey, a civil right activist who really believed in freeing the black race and equal rights for all would never own a … Ooooops.” Exactly.
Zetterson on February 27, 2007 at 1:43 PM
If I wanted to go and buy a “carbon offset” this afternoon, ’cause I really, really needed one before the weekend, where would I go to buy one?
If I own a stand of prairie grass, which is a fabulous carbon sink, better than trees, can I sell certificates? That this was thunked up by Enron is no surprise. Not a soul on the planet has been able to explain in simple English what exactly that company was selling before it went belly up. It seemed to be simply an elaborate Ponzi scheme, with better offices.
This is better than selling the Brooklyn Bridge.

I like it, Zetterson. let me try one:
Mark Foley co-sponsored that online child predator act. Therefore his ickazoid e-mails to underage pages were okay, because he’s a “big picture thinker”.
see-dubya on February 27, 2007 at 1:52 PM
What this comes down to is elitists versus egalitarians. The Democrats are devoted to elitism. You can see it in all their talk about Kennedy and Camelot. Is it a surprise when Gore preaches environmentalism and then gorges on utilities? Of course not! He considers himself exempt from the standards he wants to impose on you, the little people. That’s why Patrick Kennedy preaches environmentalism from his private jet. That’s why there were all those stories about Kerrey cutting in line then facing down anybody who objected with the pompous, “Do you know who I am?” Yeah, we know you are and what you are.

Mr. Gore is soooo boring. I’m so happy I didn’t have to see him for 8 years, almost daily. Not that Mr. Bush hasn’t entertained me too.
That Gore Oscar clip with “My fellow Americans” still makes me smile - colder than Mr. Nixon, heh.
In leadership there’s nothing like ‘by example’. Hypocrisy is always obvious and no amount of refutation can ‘kill’ it.

So Mr. Big Thinker Al spends more in energy cost annually then my wife made as a science teacher her first few years out of school. Ann and Shawn both have an obnoxious rating that is soaring these days. Hard to sway independents to the right when these two are acting out just as bad as the nutroots. Now let’s see. Gore purchases offsets which go to plant trees. But he also wants much more ethanol, so we’re going to have to cut down trees to create more crop land for the added corn. Does that mean Gore can offset the offsets’ offsets by simply not the planting trees in the first place so they don’t have to be cut down to plant the corn? Oh, the ecomath is just too hard for us mere mortals…

Anyway, I hope Coulter gets more and more TV time for her little anti-climate change, anti-solar energy rants. She sounds so absolutely ridiculous and obnoxious I’m sure she’s only alienating reasonable people who may harbor some doubts.

Hooray to all of you Ann Coulter fans, but that entire segment was embarassing. That over-the-top shoutfest is why I almost never watch H&C anymore (flipping channels and saw it last night). She was like a car wreck, talking over everybody, raving on about construction materials and “candles” which no one ever brought up. I’m not kidding, she was completely unhinged for a full two segments. Embarassing.
As for Daryl Hannah, she said that she has been “off the grid for 13 years.” With the notable exception of Kill Bill, I think that she’s right.
But this is just funny as hell see-dubya:
carlitos on February 27, 2007 at 3:34 PM
I did a little google search on Carbon Offsets.
I found a company (that is certified by a bunch of Green agencies that I’ve never heard of before) that offers enough carbon offsets for me to be a carbon neutral world citizen.
Apparently, by virtue of living in North America, I produce 19.9 tons (actually, tonnes, it was a UK website) of carbon each year.
To offset that, I just have to send this company between 141 pounds and 185 pounds and they will either -
1) Invest in new technologies that will save at least 19.9 tons of CO2 each year.
2) Invest in ’some great’ projects in developing countries which will save 19.9 tons of CO2 each year.
3) Plant trees in the UK to save 19.9 tons of CO2 each year.
I might just invest in this…..for 150 pounds a year, I buy the right to do whatever the heck I please because I can say, “Pardon me Mr. Left Envirowacko, but I’m carbon neutral….so excuse me while I go burn my fossil fuels.”
It worked for Al Gore, it should work for me too.

The Monster on February 27, 2007 at 4:38 PM
I’m giong to suggest that a pretty healthy chunk of your ₤185 may be going to some pretty fancy lobbying offices. I remember years ago the Sierra Club being ridiculed by big-time corporate lobbiyists for having the fanciest offices around, and the World Wildlife Fund was caught spending only 10% of their receipts on programs. Maybe the company uses the offset income to pay for Al Gore’s travel expenses to spread the word.
eeyore on February 27, 2007 at 4:45 PM
Andy in Agoura Hills ,
Thanks for that link. I had completely forgotten about Daryl squatting on behalf of squatters. That was great!
I like some of Ann Coulter’s writing, but the last two TV appearances I’ve seen struck me as completely incoherent. Sorry, that’s my take, and I’ve seen a lot of incoherence in my time. Plus, she was wearing jeans, forcing the cameramen to do quick cuts when their pans caught the wrong angle. Unprofessional all the way ’round. Just because some of their liberal guests talk over everyone doesn’t make it ok.
carlitos on February 27, 2007 at 4:47 PM
If Gore truly believed that the carbon emissions were going to lead to the destruction of the earth (and he cared), why would he be happy with being carbon neutral?
Instead of using 20X more electricity and natural gas than the average american in just 1 of your homes, why not get that down to just 2X or 3X more? Why not fly commercial (you could still sit in 1st class) when you travel? Get rid of that limo riding entourage and put all your people in a couple bulletproof hybrids….
THEN spend the same amount on carbon offsets as you are currently spending so that instead of being carbon neutral you are offsetting even more than you are using.
Side Note: What the heck is he doing to use that much electricity? His mansion isn’t 20X larger than the average American house. He doesn’t have 20X more people living there than the average american household. He doesn’t even live there full time.
JadeNYU on February 27, 2007 at 4:48 PM
I agree… Hannity is absolutely intolerable these days. The constant outraged preachyness has got to go. Seriously.
And Coulter, while occasionally getting off some good witty zingers, has this constant hyperventilation thing going on nowadays. There was a time when she knew how to sit quietly, let the other side say dumb stuff, and then calmly dispose of them. Now it’s way over the top.
DaveS on February 27, 2007 at 4:53 PM
When you look at the famous front-page pic for HotAir’s “Inconvenient Al’s mansion consumes 20x more energy than average household Feb 26, 2007 5:49 PM by Ian,” you’ll see he needs it mostly just to keep his own bellows stoked.

I mean, you know….large carbon footprint means a large…
TugboatPhil on February 27, 2007 at 5:23 PM
From what I could tell, most of the carbon offset companies were non-profits….which doesn’t really mean much.
Also, it looks as if some of the offsets go to pay for installation of wind/solar mills. I’m assuming that the electricity generated from those mills will be sold for a profit, so, it kind of looks like a great way to get suckers to pay for the construction of your solar/wind energy plant.
JadeNYU on February 27, 2007 at 5:33 PM
Ann Coulter cut right to the heart of the matter. She attacked the silly and nonsensical notion of Global Warming itself and this is where the focus needs to remain. Al Gore doesn’t care if you call him a hypocrite, he just laughts all the way to the bank.
Maxx on February 27, 2007 at 5:37 PM
Typed in “carbon offsets” and looked thru the listings.
It seems that a “carbon offset” is nothing more than investing in a mutual fund; only one that invests in “green companies/thingys,” which are under less pressure than EXXON/Mobil is under to actually produce something.
Let’s do this the European way. For every watt over Goer’s monthly allotment, he should pay a premium of 1000%. Gore’s household electrical bill would be even more impressive than it is now. He obviously has too much money, that he can’t use. He needs a luxury tax. Hollywood looks like it could use some slimming - luxury tax them.

Ann Coulter is refreshing in her opposion to the politically correct Global Warming liberals. She is saying that the science behind the conclusions are flawed and that only data favorable to politically correct notions is being given credbility. “Don’t confuse me with the facts, I already have my mind made up” exemplifies the Global Warming mob.
The Left is trying to use Global Warming as a method of taking wealth from the United States and distributing it to 3rd world countries in a scheme is that is politically motivated and based on scientific theory that is flawed. The people we see advocating pain for the rest of us will not be hurt, but the American middle class will be.
