I think it was a good idea and well executed, especially inviting the guests to take part. Good fun and a stretch out of the wall flower comfort zone. Nice garter too!

Reading comments about the movie "Dirty Dancing" has brought back memories of how fun the movie was to watch.

I enjoyed the Mambo dance choreography they did together, and I enjoyed how authentic the camp was they attended, the small, rustic hall they held the end-of-season festivities, the level of talent that the amateur talent contest included and how authentic those scenes in which people just having fun even if they could not hold a note or were not professional dancers, the works.

Patrick Swazey's character, Johnny, turned out to have some redeemable qualities to him, he did not get the girl pregnant, he had some level of honor. However, he DID help his dance partner friend get an abortion, which I had a problem with. In the movie it showed that she had after effects which were painful and damaging, but I never saw anyone make anything out of that, even though abortions do damage women's bodies as well as kill the baby, violently ripping and slicing her tiny body apart while she is inside mother's womb, and/or sucking baby out of her peaceful place, her mother's womb. That is truly a sick practice!

Frances "Baby" learned a few things about life while at camp and she helped Johnny make a few changes in his own life as well.

"Cuz I iiiiivvve had ---- the time of my liiiiiifffe

and I've never felt like this before

this time its the truth

and I owe it all to yooooouuuuuuuu ...."

I think they had fun. Good for them. And I was in high school when the movie came out. My friends all worked at a movie theater and we watched it over and over again. At the time, of course, we thought it was great. Again, we were in high school..teenage girls..so what did we know?

oh get a life! there is nothing wrong with what they did at their wedding and, despite the name, that wasnt very dirty dancing!

The "dirty dancing" thing comes because it's based on the movie, not the type of dancing.

That was my favorite part of the movie. I found a 3-6 month t-shirt that says "no one puts Baby in a corner" Had to get it for my Granddaughter coming in May.

At first I was repulsed, but then I watched more of it, and thought it was sweet. It's their wedding, and it's probably the only time they'd be able to get away with doing something like that in front of their friends where the friends would be happy for them and cheering them on, rather than wanting to throw food at them.

The funniest part for me was as I was watching it, I was saying to myself, "it won't really be authentic, because they're going to need some of the guests dancing with Patrick Swayze during the routine." And then they did that too! They thought of everything!

This just proves my observation that no matter what you do at your wedding, someone will complain about it. I almost did the traditional wedding thing once, but just couldn't handle everyone from my boss to the freakin' UPS man telling me what ceremonies I just HAD to have and things I just HAD to do. No wonder women become bridezillas. Wasn't the right guy anyway. When I met the REAL guy, we invited a few (less than 10) very close friends to a little ceremony at his home and then took everyone to a nice dinner. Someone probably complained about that too, but it didn't cost me $10,000 to give them the priviledge.

If you're going to get married, you have to make it special for you and your bride/groom and your guests.

Hubby and I had the wedding itself privately, but we had a seperate reception afterwards. We had a movie theme, so our centerpieces were paper film reels with paper clapboards we bought from a party store. The table numbers were all titles of movies that had a wedding as part of the plot (some were obvious, some weren't, such as "Sixteen Candles" and "Nutty Professor II" -- me and hubby's parents sat at the table labeled "The In-Laws"). Our last dance song was "Come What May" from "Moulin Rouge". And our first dance song: "Sugarpie Honeybunch (I Can't Help Myself)", which is our song (I even had it as a ringtone for when he calls me on my cell).

These kinds of things may seem corny, but you know what? You can do whatever you want at your wedding. If hubby and I were professional dancers, we might have done something similar to this. But everyone loved the reception, and said that the film theme was "so you" (I'm a huge film buff, and graduated with a BA in Film Studies).

I think it's hilarious. It looks like they were having a great time. And Allah, I was in high school at the time the movie came out. I am definitely not some "middle aged mom." :)

It was THEIR wedding. They decided to put on a show for their guests. Put a lot of time into it, it seems. And they did a pretty good job. Lighten up.

I have never seen the whole movie, however I have seen that part. I didn't think it was a good movie. Regardless of that, I think this looked like fun, and memorable. If you aren't willing to suffer a little corniness, you drastically limit your opportunities to have a bit of fun.

Some guy at my daughters wedding did the Pee-Wee Herman "Big Shoe" dance. It was really funny but we were all drunk by then.

Um, nothing as romantic as that, we just waited until church was over, grabbed a couple of witnesses and got married without telling our families about it. But then we'd known each other for nine years and had been through all kinds of fun such as his terminal cancer diagnosis and divorce, drugs, poverty and welfare, and my first husband's unexpected death while I was pregnant. After all that drama, who needs a wedding? We were happy to skip ahead to the marriage part, and we've enjoyed 14 years of relative calm since then. :-)

It’s a nice change from Shout. My husband and I eloped thus avoiding the whole thing but for the better part of a decade, at every single wedding we went to, they started with that song. If people want to get creative now, more power to ‘em.

Laura,

That is nice!

Where did you elope to?

Upon the death from cancer of my father, and upon my mother's extensive confinement in a care center with illness, including Multiple Sclerosis, we decided to go to Maui, Hawaii, and marry at sunset outdoors in Makena, the southwest side of Maui, looking out to Molokini Crater.

We are both glad we did so, for that was the most beautiful, sweet, romantic wedding I have ever attended.

Later, after the sun had set, we had our "wedding dinner," just to two of us, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Wailea. There was a pianist, and I think a bassist and drummer with a small dance floor in the elegant dinning room. We danced together, she in her wedding dress and veil, me in my Spencer Tux that I owned and wore when I performed classical and guitar and vocals including at elegant affairs.

We have a beautiful video with excellent sound, music editing, and color, and beautiful photographs, and the honenymoom, spent in both Maui, and Kauai, was wonderful, filled with great memories and beautiful scenery!

Our minister, gifted with a beautiful speaking voice, performed the ceremony in both Hawaiian and English, and we exchanged leis, my wife draping me in the Ali'i lei, and I drapped her in the Plumeria lei.

My wife looked so beautiful. I was beside myself with joy at such a wonderful event as our wedding, simple, beautiful, intimate, memorable, in such a beautiful location as Maui, Hawaii.

We have a wonderful marriage and I am so grateful and happy to be married to my wife and to have fathered such beautiful children with her as our three children, ages nine, six, and three are (girl, boy, girl).

I truly think and experience that marriage and parenthood are wonderful!
