Just out of curiousity…have any of the Democratic candidates promised to close Gitmo on their first day? Is McCain actually moving to the left of the Democratic candidates on this?

Why close it? It would be a perfect starter gulag for Howard Dean once the Democrats win the presidency.

OK…….. Mr. McCain………. where’s the fence?

Mr. McCain can sing now and then, dance with Mr. Kennedy and the media all he wants, follow his convictions, perhaps trying to help his party…and he will not be nominated for 2008.

Lately there’s something the matter with him – c/b age and/or health; he’s been listless, tired, without his usual spunk, just not himself. For many reasons his time has passed. Also, senatorial collegiality would prevent him from really attacking Mrs. Clinton in 2008. Mr. Giuliani isn’t hamstrung by this code, and otherwise.

Regardless of all views, we (not trolls) must honor Mr. McCain for two major subjects:

1. His service and dedication to this country, and
2. His tireless effort and energy in support of GW’s reelection. In spite of past (major) rifts, he worked maniacally to make it happen.

Let’s go.

There is no way McCain is going to be the nominee.

This latest move will be too much for Republican voters to bear – the guy is parroting Democrat talking points on a place we’ve spent years defending.

He’s toast.

I’m beginning to reconsider that promise, given this latest outrage. This is a bridge too far. Unless McCain retracts this promise, I will not vote for him.

And I will remind you once again that had it not been for the gang of 14 and McCain, we probably wouldn’t have gotten Roberts or Alito. Probably the most important thing to happen in this administration besides the WOT.

You guys are always telling me to disregard Rudy’s positions on social issues because he will appoint the right judges. Well McCain made sure the right judges were appointed when it looked like the Dems were going to make sure that didn’t happen.

Good grief. At least give him credit for that.

Amen, RWS. The average guy or gal on the street probably knows McCain is a Senator, and was a POW or a “war hero”, if they recognize the name at all. They probably won’t know about the gang of 14, McCain/Feingold, weak position on immigration, etc. As a result, they think he’s a stand-up guy.

The camp X-Ray jihadist prison there, he means. But who knows? Maybe he wants to give the whole base to the Cubans while he’s at it. He’s troubled by the “symbolism” of Gitmo. Some of us are more troubled by……

I want you to do a little experiment for me. I want you to randomly pick 4 or 5 people from your office who you know aren’t political. First ask them if they know what Gitmo is and the controversy surrounding it. If they do, ask them if it impresses them that McCain will close it.

Don’t let on what you think about it. And you get back to me.

You guys make me defend McCain on the things I don’t even agree with him on. But guess what? I never agreed with Busho on everything either.

Yes, we hare all know that there is nothing wrong with Gitmo. I suppose McCain knows that as well, but COME ON, we all know the reputation Gitmo has. Whether it true or not. This is called PR. This is called getting all the “independents” to vote Republican. And like it or not my rightwing friends, THEY decide elections, not us.

What do you think happened to the prisonaers at Abu Graib (sp?) Do you think they were freed? No. They were put IN ANOTHER PRISON. As will the detainees at Gitmo. The only difference will be the name of the prison.

Let’s face it. Elections are all about PR. They are all about how IT LOOKS. And McCain knows how this looks.

And considering that he suffered in his “dentention” this may even be a sincere gesture.

I would like to see Gitmo closed… Strap parachutes to all the detainees and launch them out over the U.A.E. Let’s see what that enlightened and very rich Muslim country would do with them…

Most likely, send them to fight our forces in Iraq. Better idea: skip the parachutes and simply drop them over the Pacific Ocean.

Grant all illegal aliens citizenship and grant all jihadists constitutional rights.
