John McCain sings again

This song is a lot less amusing than his other one.

Move the Gitmo inmates to Leavenworth. Where a) jihadis here can try to free them or b) jihadi lawyers here can try to free them and c) where the federal judiciary will have them within jurisdiction and grant them all manner of constitutional rights they don’t deserve. McCain’s policy seems…unwise. It certainly won’t buy us any goodwill in Europe or anywhere else. That ship has sailed and isn’t coming back.

So if McCain says on day one of his presidency he’ll move to close Gitmo, we’d better keep him out of the presidency. Pretty simple.

Dang. I was hoping for an actual song, not some sissy talk. That singing video is hilarious.

Bryan, you hit the nail on the head.

Heh. Excellent understatement.

Slublog on February 22, 2007 at 12:04 PM

Just out of curiousity…have any of the Democratic candidates promised to close Gitmo on their first day? Is McCain actually moving to the left of the Democratic candidates on this?

Slublog on February 22, 2007 at 12:05 PM

*dang* Between McCain’s position on Gitmo and Giuliani’s on gun control I guess that leaves Romney.

flipflop on February 22, 2007 at 12:07 PM

As far as I can tell, yes.

Bryan on February 22, 2007 at 12:09 PM

The original WAS a real kneeslapper. LMAO Big time!
Ho wcan he be serious about Gitmo. That’s the thing about McCain. He’s so damn erattic.

auspatriotman on February 22, 2007 at 12:09 PM

As far as I can tell, yes.

Well isn’t that special?

I did note that he got almost no applause for that line. Dead silence.

Slublog on February 22, 2007 at 12:12 PM

McCain serves as a good useful idiot, but not much else.

lorien1973 on February 22, 2007 at 12:32 PM

I would like to see Gitmo closed… Strap parachutes to all the detainees and launch them out over the U.A.E.
Let’s see what that enlightened and very rich Muslim country would do with them…

Yeah? Try explaining that to RWS.

Just one more reason on the list of many reasons not to ever vote for the man.

You’d think there would be one real conservative somewhere to run against the current field.

BacaDog on February 22, 2007 at 12:49 PM

I would BBQ this man a steak anytime.
I would buy him a beer anytime.
I would shake his hand anytime.
I would not vote for him.

The McCain plan for on America:

Grant all illegal aliens citizenship and grant all jihadists constitutional rights.

Hey, who wouldn’t be enticed by such a proposal?

tommy1 on February 22, 2007 at 1:28 PM

Move them to Duke and give them lacrosse scholoarships. The leftards will lynch them for us.

Most likely, send them to fight our forces in Iraq. Better idea: skip the parachutes and simply drop them over the Pacific Ocean.

I’m sorry, did someone say McCain??

Ok, here I am.

You guys make me defend McCain on the things I don’t even agree with him on. But guess what? I never agreed with Busho on everything either.

Yes, we hare all know that there is nothing wrong with Gitmo. I suppose McCain knows that as well, but COME ON, we all know the reputation Gitmo has. Whether it true or not. This is called PR. This is called getting all the “independents” to vote Republican. And like it or not my rightwing friends, THEY decide elections, not us.

What do you think happened to the prisonaers at Abu Graib (sp?) Do you think they were freed? No. They were put IN ANOTHER PRISON. As will the detainees at Gitmo. The only difference will be the name of the prison.

Let’s face it. Elections are all about PR. They are all about how IT LOOKS. And McCain knows how this looks.

And considering that he suffered in his “dentention” this may even be a sincere gesture.

My Dad use to tell me, “Sometimes we get what we want, Some times we get what we hate, and sometimes we get what we deserve, but most of the time we get enough.”

McCain is our enough my friends.

Rightwingsparkle on February 22, 2007 at 1:55 PM

Sorry about those typos. In a hurry here.

Rightwingsparkle on February 22, 2007 at 1:56 PM

McCain has always been like this. I swear every time he comes on tv for an interview, his foot in mouth disease rears it’s ugly head. How he even thinks he is a contender is beyond me. Republicans need someone who is strong and can sell themselves, not wimpy.

I am not sure anyone can convince me that this guy can stand up to terrorists…not after seeing his interviews and watching what he says.

Highrise on February 22, 2007 at 2:04 PM

I seriously doubt that the independent’s issues to vote for will come down to Gitmo. Looney left, yes, independents, no.

Highrise on February 22, 2007 at 2:05 PM

Highrise,

I want you to do a little experiment for me. I want you to randomly pick 4 or 5 people from your office who you know aren’t political. First ask them if they know what Gitmo is and the controversy surrounding it. If they do, ask them if it impresses them that McCain will close it.

Don’t let on what you think about it. And you get back to me.

You guys don’t seem to understand that WE ARE NOT THE MAJORITY OF VOTERS. We know the details of every issue, but most people ONLY GET THE “IMPRESSION.” Which is why Bill Clinton won re-election.

Rightwingsparkle on February 22, 2007 at 2:27 PM

WE ARE NOT THE MAJORITY OF VOTERS. We know the details of every issue, but most people ONLY GET THE “IMPRESSION.”

Amen, RWS. The average guy or gal on the street probably knows McCain is a Senator, and was a POW or a “war hero”, if they recognize the name at all. They probably won’t know about the gang of 14, McCain/Feingold, weak position on immigration, etc. As a result, they think he’s a stand-up guy.

Most of us here know better.

BacaDog on February 22, 2007 at 3:41 PM

Just because you don’t agree with McCain on certain issues doesn’t make him any less of a stand up guy. You can be mad at him for his positions, but he is still a good guy.

And I will remind you once again that had it not been for the gang of 14 and McCain, we probably wouldn’t have gotten Roberts or Alito. Probably the most important thing to happen in this administration besides the WOT.

You guys are always telling me to disregard Rudy’s positions on social issues because he will appoint the right judges. Well McCain made sure the right judges were appointed when it looked like the Dems were going to make sure that didn’t happen.

Good grief. At least give him credit for that.

Rightwingsparkle on February 22, 2007 at 4:39 PM

Social issues mean less to me than the war. Closing down Gitmo sends the wrong message to those who want to kill us. I know that in the past, I’ve said I would vote for McCain if he were the nominee.

I’m beginning to reconsider that promise, given this latest outrage. This is a bridge too far. Unless McCain retracts this promise, I will not vote for him.

Slublog on February 22, 2007 at 4:45 PM

I’ll be elected president before McCain. Only 1 out of 10 republicans like him. So… unless the dems take to him he doesn’t have a shot in he11. Of course, the dems may just take to him, pitifully he jumped to their side on many issues in the past.

Griz on February 22, 2007 at 4:46 PM

Thankfully, I won’t need to make that choice, though.

There is no way McCain is going to be the nominee.

This latest move will be too much for Republican voters to bear - the guy is parroting Democrat talking points on a place we’ve spent years defending.

He’s toast.

Slublog on February 22, 2007 at 4:54 PM

He must be drinking from Murtha’s sippy cup

doginblack on February 22, 2007 at 4:54 PM

I feel a need for a bet here.

Let’s go.

Rightwingsparkle on February 22, 2007 at 5:09 PM

Sorry for the double post (from the Kennedy bill thread)…

Mr. McCain can sing now and then, dance with Mr. Kennedy and the media all he wants, follow his convictions, perhaps trying to help his party…and he will not be nominated for 2008.

Lately there’s something the matter with him - c/b age and/or health; he’s been listless, tired, without his usual spunk, just not himself. For many reasons his time has passed. Also, senatorial collegiality would prevent him from really attacking Mrs. Clinton in 2008. Mr. Giuliani isn’t hamstrung by this code, and otherwise.

Regardless of all views, we (not trolls) must honor Mr. McCain for two major subjects:

1. His service and dedication to this country, and
2. His tireless effort and energy in support of GW’s reelection. In spite of past (major) rifts, he worked maniacally to make it happen.

Entelechy on February 22, 2007 at 5:42 PM

McCain should be honored for his service indeed, but I’ll never vote for this guy… Well, I shouldn’t say never… given the alternatives and that I truly think virtually everyone in the Democratic Party are truly evil he may get my vote by default…. but I emailed him to tell him I would never vote for him last week after his global warming BS… and now he wants to shut down Gitmo?

RightWinged on February 22, 2007 at 7:51 PM

Why close it? It would be a perfect starter gulag for Howard Dean once the Democrats win the presidency.

The only person I know who has articulated wanting to close Gitmo besides McCain is Bush. Doesn’t mean the Dems don’t hold that view, I can’t recall it specifically.

honora on February 23, 2007 at 2:37 PM

How can I vote for someone who I disagree with on almost every issue I find important? Sorry, but my vote will not be for McCain.
