Average Brits have a great afinity for America and Americans. The shared language means that we can communicate better with visitors from the States. We’ve all grown up with American music, films and TV. The relationship we have with America is so familiar and natural, we barely think about it. You are our first cousins.

If we were being honest we’d admit that we are closer the US than to European neighbours a couple of miles away.

It’s only the British moonbats that hate America – although perhaps not as much as American moonbats hate America.

Martin Amis is one of the good guys. I’m reading his new novel “House of Meetings”, which is about the Gulag, and it’s riveting. I can’t think of another novel by a major writer about that subject, which tells you something about the literary intelligentsia.

He also wrote a novel about Stalin called Koba the Dread. In the prefice he wrote about a meeting he attended where Christopher Hitchens was speaking. Hitchens began by remembering how many years earlier he used to meet with fellow Trotskyites at that very location and the crowd laughed. Amis wondered if the crowd would have been as amused if Hitchens had said he used to meet with fellow Brown shirts the point being that the left often was blind to the murderous among them.

And the Russians supported Hitler when he took over Poland, so the Russians should have been shelling themselves after the Wehrmacht invaded.

The US supported the northern alliance against Russia (the same people we support now). We didn’t support the Taliban. They came later on.

Precisely. The US supported the Mujahedeen who were Afghan nationalist and arab countries (Like the Saudis) supported the foreign Arab Jihadies (Like Bin Labia) Arab Jihadies wouldn’t have taken a dime from the US because we supported Israel. Also, the Taliban didn’t emerge until 1995. So the MSM once again got it wrong via a lack of research or omitted these facts on purpose. (I think it is the later)
