The obligatory Hillary / Obama slapfight post
posted at 3:45 pm on February 21, 2007 by Allahpundit
Stupid, yes, but exciting for the same reason the first few jabs of a fight are exciting — it’s the thrill of first contact and the promise of a beating to come.
Who’d have guessed, though, that David Geffen would land the first clean shots?
Among other things, Hollywood and music mogul Geffen had told Dowd, “God knows, is there anybody more ambitious than Hillary Clinton?” and “Obama is inspirational, and he’s not from the Bush royal family or the Clinton royal family. Americans are dying every day in Iraq. And I’m tired of hearing James Carville on television.”…
She is overproduced and overscripted. “It’s not a very big thing to say, ‘I made a mistake’ on the war, and typical of Hillary Clinton that she can’t,” Mr. Geffen says. “She’s so advised by so many smart advisers who are covering every base. I think that America was better served when the candidates were chosen in smoke-filled rooms.”…
Once, David Geffen and Bill Clinton were tight as ticks… They fell out in 2000, when Mr. Clinton gave a pardon to Marc Rich after rebuffing Mr. Geffen’s request for one for Leonard Peltier. “Marc Rich getting pardoned? An oil-profiteer expatriate who left the country rather than pay taxes or face justice?” Mr. Geffen says. “Yet another time when the Clintons were unwilling to stand for the things that they genuinely believe in. Everybody in politics lies, but they do it with such ease, it’s troubling.”
Hillary’s guy read that and started whining about personal attacks, which prompted Obama’s guy to start whining about what the mean man in South Carolina whom she basically paid to endorse her said about him being black. Whereupon Hillary’s guy whined that he’d take that as an admission that Obama’s a hypocrite whose promises of a “new tone” in Washington mean embracing slash-and-burn politics.
Democrats: even their mudslinging is weak and ineffectual.
On the upside, though, a slew of sweet quotes came out of it. First, from the “aren’t you glad they put Dowd behind a firewall?” file:
Dowd sized up the situation thusly: “Who can pay attention to the Oscar battle between ‘The Queen’ and ‘Dreamgirls’ when you’ve got a political battle between a Queen and a Dreamboy?”
Then Barry O himself at yesterday’s celebrity Hollywood fundraiser, kissing ass at heretofore unapproached levels of banality:
“Don’t sell yourselves short,’’ Obama said in his 25-minute speech, per the pool report. “You are the storytellers of our age.”
Then this somewhat gratuitous yet welcome bit of observation by our pals at the AP:
The day took Obama to widely contrasting places, although they were just miles (kilometers) apart. At the outdoor rally he talked at length of the struggles of common Americans, then later addressed a crowd of celebrities at the fundraiser where guests nibbled on shrimp dumplings and crab cakes.
And finally, a slogan worthy of a campaign poster from CAIR’s favorite congressman:
Minnesota U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison says he supports Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for president.
“Not because he’s black,” said Ellison, who is black, on Tuesday. “That’s identity politics. I reject identity politics.
“He speaks with a unifying spirit,” Ellison told about 100 employees at the Star Tribune newspaper during a lunch-hour event for Black History Month.
Exit question: Bearing in mind that Obama has already been demagogued twice for his supposed ties to Islam, how enthusiastic is he on a scale from 1 to 10 to pick up the coveted Keith Ellison endorsement?

Obama is the new howard dean… all hype no votes

When the info gets out about the mission statement for his church ( on LGF) he will be toast.

Wait, I thought that voting to authorize the war wasn’t the same thing as voting for the war. If that’s the case, why does she need to apologize?

somewhere in the back Karl Rove “yessss my prettiesss, fight fight, weaken yourself so that I may win. Mwahahaha”
Defector01 on February 21, 2007 at 3:56 PM
That does not fit. This is how they think. I reject identity politics at a political Black History luncheon.
I thought Obama was not “black” enough. What we need is a color chart to tell the players apart.

Please, please tell me that I am not going to have to listen to this BULLS**T for another 21 months. I am already weary of it all.

On the plus side (for, er, somebody), doesn’t this rather blunt the whole “he’s going to be a bigger target and make us less safe because he’s an apostate” argument?
Il Padrino on February 21, 2007 at 4:00 PM
Sure, but now we get to replace it with this argument:
Aha! He’s secretly a muslim pretending to be a former muslim so that we will put him in charge of our country where he will instantly inact Sharia law The proof is the fact that he is supported by a muslim. No muslim would support an apostate for anything other than death!
Or something else like that argument.
Luckily we only have to put up with most of these arguments until the primaries are over and the official candidates are selected.
Then the real fun begins.

I’ll bet a nickel David Geffen is back on the Clinton bandwagon after Hillary locks up the nomination. As every other leftwing pretend Hillary-hater will be.
I doubt there’s a Gene McCarthy in the wings, or even a Ralph Nader.

Ah yes Balack Obama, tell us of the struggle one makes trying to get those shrimp dumplings and crab cakes before they’re gone.

The most revealing thing in that post is the fact that Ellison was giving a lunch talk to 100 employees of the Strib.

We have a chance to give all these politicos something to think about. Here is the caravan route, schedule, etc…..

If you can’t make it please at least try to donate to the Gathering of Eagles.

infidel on February 21, 2007 at 4:38 PM
Well what is it? Miles apart is a lot farther apart than kilometers apart you stupid fauxglobalobsessed dorks!!!
You want to be cool, say, “klicks.”
“…although they were just klicks apart.”
Of course, then one discovers that altering common expressions is stupid. Would they fiddle with some Swahili turn of the phrase to make it sound multi-culti? Hmmm?
naliaka on February 21, 2007 at 4:52 PM
Oy. Good thing they stopped making those silly “book” things.
I noticed in that same article, Rev Jesse said that Obama’s got his vote (because “he’s from Illinois”). Is that new?
Tanya on February 21, 2007 at 4:54 PM
Maybe, but I figured it was a fait accompli on identity-politics grounds.
Allahpundit on February 21, 2007 at 5:01 PM
I guess. Maybe I tend to overly put Rev Jesse and Rev Al into the same peapod. There doesn’t seem to be much identifying going on with the latter. Or am I out of date?
Tanya on February 21, 2007 at 5:11 PM
Hmmm, the Rev. appears to be at odds with Sharpie-Sharpton. What will they do?
Rick on February 21, 2007 at 5:11 PM
I’ve always pegged Sharpton and Jackson as rivals. Jackson endorses him when he must, i.e., when he’s the only black candidate running, but I don’t sense a lot of love there.
Is Sharpton even running this time?
Allahpundit on February 21, 2007 at 5:13 PM
I enjoy seeing them go at it. Keep it up.

Good question. One can hope. He was a stitch at the debates last time.
Tanya on February 21, 2007 at 5:15 PM
You just can’t make this stuff up.
LagunaDave on February 21, 2007 at 5:22 PM
I think Obama will actually be happy to get the endorsement. Will only hurt him in the eyes of people like us, who already loathe his politics and would never vote for him. He will get more of the Muslim vote now, and won’t lose any of his support from the far-left. Think of all the Muslim voters in Michigan (especially) and California.
RW Wacko on February 21, 2007 at 5:35 PM
I suspect he’s happy for any endorsement he gets, even if this one, coming from a freshman, doesn’t carry much weight.
His candidacy will last only slightly longer than Edwards’ and will be largely forgotten once Gore throws his hat in the ring.
flipflop on February 21, 2007 at 5:55 PM
Tough one … Hmmmmm, Obama smokes, so Ellison may just call the cops on him instead of the endorsement.
darwin on February 21, 2007 at 6:15 PM
Poor Maureen. Her comments on Barry O are hilarious because it’s so obvious she’s got a case of jungle fever. She desperately wants to bed Barack.
jaleach on February 21, 2007 at 6:21 PM
You are probably right, but they do generally tend to support the same people and issues. Also, their supporters are for the most part, the same group of loyal followers.

Democrates should rename their party the “Victimocrates” (per Larry Elders, I believe). They really know how to look like victims and exploit the stupidity of the american public.

B. Hussein Osama, er Obama, and Hillary Rodham duke it out. This is too precious, though it was predictable.

I say all future elections should be like Big Brother, by voting OUT the candidates one at a time. Plus it would be fun watching them all have to live together, open mics, seeing who can build coalitions, but the thought of Hillary showers in the uncut version. . nevermind
