Muslim “fanatic” assassinates Pakistani woman minister; Update: More details

Strange country. Hundreds of honor killings every year, laws which until recently required four witnesses to prove rape, yet they’ve had more female heads of state than we have.

I’m guessing this guy didn’t vote for Benazir Bhutto.

A suspected Islamist zealot shot dead a Pakistani woman provincial government minister on Tuesday because he believed women should not be in politics, officials said…

Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat told Reuters the gunman had been implicated in six previous murder cases but had never been convicted because of a lack of evidence.

“He is basically a fanatic,” Basharat said. “He is against the involvement of women in politics and government affairs.”…

“He considers it contrary to the teachings of Allah for a woman to become a minister or a ruler. That’s why he committed this action,” the police said in a statement.

Six previous murders?

Update: Not a surprise to find that the victims in those previous murders were also women.

“He killed her because she was not observing the Islamic code of dress. She was also campaigning for emancipation of women,” said Nazir Ahmad, a local officer, adding that the suspect was a known extremist with a history of targeting women he considered “immoral”…

The man – identified as Mohammad Sarwar – was overpowered by the minister’s driver and arrested by police, who claimed that he confessed to the killing. A former student and stonemason in his 40s, Sarwar was previously held in 2002 in connection with the killing of four prostitutes, but was never convicted due to lack of evidence…

Ms Usman, a married mother of two sons, joined the pro-Musharraf Pakistan Muslim League after being elected in 2002. A strong supporter of the President’s policy of “enlightened moderation” – designed to tackle extremism – she was appointed to her current post in December last year according to her government biography.

pathetic

He is basically a fanatic

He is basically a fundamental Islamist. There are only a few million of them in the world. Nothing to worry about.

right2bright on February 20, 2007 at 10:58 AM

I guess only female witnesses were available for the first 6 murders.

Valiant on February 20, 2007 at 10:59 AM

Where’s the link to the original story?

Blacklake on February 20, 2007 at 11:00 AM

Maybe if we just talked to him, he’d stop killing.

NOT!

rightside on February 20, 2007 at 11:01 AM

yet they’ve had more female heads of state than we have.

My guess would be it is the only way out of the house, a venue of escape, since so much else is denied them. A way to achieve and excel. That would be my guess.

CrimsonFisted on February 20, 2007 at 11:01 AM

Hey, more positive press for the Democrat party.

spmat on February 20, 2007 at 11:04 AM

Send someone from NOW to talk to this poor misguided soul on second thought, send their entire board of directors.

DoctorDentons on February 20, 2007 at 11:04 AM

God bless this poor woman and her family.

Madrassas. That is it. Hundreds of thousands of them. Immune. Bomb proof. Law proof. Inviolable.

Limerick on February 20, 2007 at 11:08 AM

God bless her soul.

Unlike our own home-grown womyn warriors battling the vagino-phobic Patriarchy … in Pakistan, it actually takes courage for a woman to stand up to their real-life oppressors.

Amanda Marcotte should read stories like this one and weep from her own shame.

Are you sure about the “bomb proof” part?

Have we actually tested that?

Not that I’d suggest such a thing, of course. Because addressing the root causes of Islamic radicalism is the one thing none of us are prepared to do.

Well, not yet, anyway. We will eventually. Just need a few million folks to volunteer to die first.

Then maybe we can test your “bomb proof” theory. Which I, of course, oppose. Because sentiment trumps logic, right?

Professor Blather on February 20, 2007 at 11:10 AM

I don’t know.. the radimuzzies make nice enforcers for cultural Marxism. They’re like little wind-up Che Guevaras with bombs strapped to them. Send little Johnny Mohamed to the madrassa, get back your own automated saracen sword of multiculturalism.

Next question: How will he be punished? Will it be execution, life in prison, or a slap on the wrist and a promise not to do it again?

How about – he’ll be made a martyr, have pictures of his ugly mug posted all over town, women in burkas will swoon when they hear his name, and he’ll be promised a nice supply of virgins waiting in the afterlife?

That’s his punishment.

Professor Blather on February 20, 2007 at 11:43 AM

This is tangential, I know, but has anybody else noticed that Yahoo news no longer allows discussion? The excuse is so pitiful: “a small number of vocal users dominated the discussion” which is so disingenuous…moonbats were regularly revealed for their lack of logical thinking ability and lost argument after argument after argument on yahoo news discussion boards…even the excuse is spun…how can it be concluded that the dominators were a small number of vocal users? Because we are right? Conservatives engaged moonies in those dicsussion groups, and I was disappointed when they were shut down. Just wondering if anyone else noticed this…

JustTruth101 on February 20, 2007 at 11:54 AM

I have no doubt that Amanda Marcotte, champion of womens rights and fighter against the evil American patriarchy, is busily preparing “a pretty vicious rant” about the despicable islamic patriarchy … no doubt … I think … well, it could happen.

A former student and stonemason

ILLUMINATUS!!!!
Probably a member of Skull and Bones too. Damn Yale-ies.

BohicaTwentyTwo on February 20, 2007 at 12:25 PM

History? …… and still walking the streets.

PinkyBigglesworth on February 20, 2007 at 12:47 PM

Somehow, a good castration seems appropriate, along with some de-nailing, and a long series of small amputations over a long period of time. For this guy, death is too good for him. Long painful suffering…more apt. Oh, and no anesthetic.

tickleddragon on February 20, 2007 at 1:13 PM

How come the only “moderate” Muslims that have the “gumballs” to stand up to the radicals are the ones that don’t actually have “gumballs”?

I truly admire these women and their bravery. Maybe one day, the MEN will each grow a pair…..

Lonevoice on February 20, 2007 at 1:19 PM

‘C mon. This is clearly another isolated incident.

Professor Blather on February 20, 2007 at 11:08 AM

Unfortunately, we will all no doubt be forced to continue to listen to Amanda and her ilk as they whine, moan, and complain about being a victims. Meanwhile, where are the voices of protest/outrage over what has happened to Pakistani Minister Zilla Huma Usman? Could it be that the activists of western countries that purport to represent the “feminist” agenda are, in truth, shallow and self-absorbed? (Or do we already know the answer?)

Once the Musharraf Anglophile cohort passes on, these bearded crazies will have the keys to the nukes. If you think what this Muslim nutcase did with a pistol was bad, watch what his Muslim children do with a set of atom bombs.

Tantor on February 20, 2007 at 4:49 PM

What Islam needs is a Night of the Loreena Bobbitts.

About 500 million of them would do the trick.

(As long as they have enough tweezers and magnifying glasses.)

I understand you frustration, yet I have lived and still do live in the Middle East in a strict Shia and Sunni country

People don’t commit murder like this – this was an act of murder – not a social statement by hundreds of millions of people

we need to separate the act from the hearts and minds of the people

64 million Pakistanian males did not murder any female government ministers yesterday

EricPWJohnson on February 21, 2007 at 12:49 AM

If this murder had happened in Dubuque, Iowa instead of Pakistan we would never have known that the confessed murderer is a Muslim. At least, not from the MSM.
