Muslim group invites Virgil Goode to explain his surge resolution speech

posted at 7:09 pm on February 19, 2007 by Allahpundit

Goode’s the congressman from Virginia who demagogued Keith Ellison over his swearing-in on the Koran and called for limiting immigration by Muslims to the United States. Now the Muslim-American Public Affairs Council (not to be confused with the Muslim Public Affairs Council) wants him to come to its annual dinner next month and beg pardon for his latest offense, a four-minute speech on the House floor last week in which he addressed the subject of jihad:

A Muslim group said Monday it had invited Rep. Virgil Goode, R-Va., to expand on biting remarks he made last week during debate on a House resolution disapproving of President Bush’s decision to send more than 21,000 U.S. troops into Iraq.

The Muslim American Public Affairs Council has “extended this invitation to Congressman Goode to give him a venue to explain his recent comments about Muslims and Islam,” MAPAC Executive Director Marc Conaghan said in a statement. MAPAC also asked Goode to share a dialogue with Jamal Badawi, an Islamic and comparative religion scholar.

Here’s the clip of Goode’s remarks. Judge for yourself how “biting” they are. He’s careful to distinguish between Muslims and radical Muslims, and his fears about jihadis slipping into the U.S. amid a sea of Iraqi refugees are hardly far-fetched. So what’s the issue? Or did Fox misinterpret the press release and, in fact, the “recent” comments MAPAC wants him to address are his earlier statements about Ellison, not the House speech? I can’t find a copy of it online so I can’t tell.

Oh, and here’s a little background on Badawi, whose appearance is advertised prominently on the MAPAC website:

In an interview with the Saudi Gazette on June 24, 2005, while visiting the kingdom, Mr. Badawi said: “9/11 was un-Islamic,” and “I strongly condemn the September 11 attacks … whoever did it,” adding, “It is not confirmed yet who is actually behind the attacks.” In the Saudi Gazette story, Mr. Badawi discussed the difficulty in drawing up an “agreement on how terrorism should be defined” and said exploding cars in Iraq’s markets and killing civilians should be included.

Mr. Badawi went on to make an outrageous claim – that America could be behind these attacks: “This has to be investigated as to who is actually behind this … There have been allegations that I cannot confirm that people going to the market to buy vegetables are stopped in the name of inspecting their cars by [American] forces, their hands are tied and they are blindfolded. There have been cases and I want a clarification from American officials to these allegations. After inspecting their cars they are allowed to go and when the car reaches [the] checkpoint it explodes and they call them suicide bombers, perhaps the occupants of the car were not even aware that they are carrying a bomb in their car. Such incidents should be thoroughly probed.”

But Allah, he says it in such a broad Southern drawl that it simply must be racist.

I hope he tells them to kiss it high and deep.

Goode should accept, explain his position and rationale, and say he abides by his words. It will be a perfect opportunity to bring the debate about muslims into the light of the public venue. He’ll need bodyguards.

darwin on February 19, 2007 at 7:34 PM

He didn’t demagogue Ellison. He didn’t even say he shouldn’t swear on the Koran, unlike confused mainstream cons like Prager who think immigration is harmless as long as we shout loudly about how awful multiculturalism is. He just said Muslim immigration isn’t conducive to national cohesion, which is true.

Alex K on February 19, 2007 at 7:36 PM

I think Mr. Goode should be very careful in all that he does for the next few months. You never know when a taxi or bus driver may break out with sudden jihad fever!

I think he should go and repeat the comments again. Ask “any questions?” and promptly say “I didn’t think so. Face!” and leave.

lorien1973 on February 19, 2007 at 7:57 PM

Badawi and company needs to get probed. Both legally and by as many blunt objects as possible by his cell mate/new daddy.

Do we have any Republican candidates with the guts and sincerity (no double-talk clarification when addressing different crowds) to speak out like Mr Goode?

El Guapo on February 19, 2007 at 8:02 PM

So American forces are planting bombs in innocent Muslims’ cars? I can’t wait to see the HBO special on that one.

CookeyD on February 19, 2007 at 8:21 PM

I think Mr. Goode ought to accept the invitation from MAPAC in Raleigh and/or otherwise engage them in political warfare. I don’t see how anyone could listen to Mr. Goode’s speech and see anything “biting” about it, but I do see how Mr. Badawi and his kind desperately want to divert attention from any “misconceptions” about Islam. You know, it appears to me that little headway is being made on the “ties with local Muslim communities” front. Instead of moderates stepping forward, apologists are. A new strategy is needed.

Mr. Badawi:

My son’s M1A2 weighs 140,000 lbs. Believe me when I tell you he doesn’t need to blow up cars. He just has to make a few bad turns.

off topic – where is our 24 thread?

pullingmyhairout on February 19, 2007 at 8:57 PM

I know exactly why Virgil Goode is being attacked so strongly. He used to be a Democrat. They see him as a rebel and they will do everything they can to make him look bad.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Goode before. He is no racist. He is concerned about our future, and is speaking against radical Islam, something that some so-called moderate Muslims still seem to have some trouble doing. I will stand up for Virgil Goode. He has our best interests at heart, and will stand up to those who are trying to undermine him.

That, and to what point, exactly, do they want explained?

That a sect of the Muslim religion is hell bent on jihad against all infidels, to their death, all over the world, and it is being preached in more and more Mosques, including the United States?

Why are they not called upon to do explianation?

Oh, I forgot, it’s OK to lie to an infidel in the name of Allah, while engaging in the jihad to wipe them off the planet………

“Vomit bucket……. get your Vomit Buckets, HeeeeEEEAAARRR!!!”

He doesn’t owe them a thing, let alone an opportunity to “sound bite” and misquote him.

TBinSTL on February 19, 2007 at 9:42 PM

Virgil Goode doesn’t have t explain anything to Muslims, that they already know.
Anybody with an ounce of sense, that has been keeping up, know what’s happening with these murderers, if not, then here’s a short outline:

Islam and Territory

This civilization created one very important, fundamental rule about territory. Any territory that comes under Islamic rule cannot be de-Islamized. Even if at one time or another, the [non-Moslem] enemy takes over the territory that was under Islamic rule, it is considered to be perpetually Islamic.

This is why whenever you hear about the Arab/Israeli conflict, you hear – territory, territory, territory. There are other aspects to the conflict, but territory is highly important.

The Christian civilization has not only been seen as a religious opponent, but as a dam stopping Islam from achieving its final goal for which it was created.
Islam was created to be the army of God, the army of Allah. Every single Moslem is a soldier in this army. Every single Moslem that dies in fighting for the spread of Islam is a shaheed (martyr) no matter how he dies, because – and this is very important – this is an eternal word between the two civilizations. It’s not a war that stops. This was is there because it was created by Allah. Islam must be the ruler. This is a war that will not end.

****
Wherever You Have Islam, You Will Have War

The reason that we have what we have in Yugoslavia and other places is because Islam succeeded into entering these countries. Wherever you have Islam, you will have war. It grows out of the attitude of Islamic civilization.

Wow. That good ol boy shoots from the hip don’t he? We need much more of that kind of leadership in the republican party. Heck, both parties for that matter.

csdeven on February 19, 2007 at 10:04 PM

Never apologize, never explain.

Not if you’re right in the first place.

Virgil is plenty Goode as is.

And why should Ellison not be called for swearing to defend a secular Constitution on a pedophile warlord’s playbook of global theocratic domination and the subjugation of all infidels who will not submit to its terroristic, misogynistic, and uniformly intolerant tenets?

Somebody up in the by-line needs to read the damned Koran.

Check out suras 9:5 and 9:29-30, for starters.

Enough of this p.c. “make nice” pabulum.

profitsbeard on February 19, 2007 at 10:19 PM

If is was Congressman Goode I would just send the Muslim-American Public Affairs Council an email with a link to this web page and instruct them to watch the video again. Or as many times as needed until all their questions are answered.

I couldn’t make it past the first 5 or 10 seconds. That guy has the most annoying manner of speaking I have ever heard. It isn’t just a drawl… it’s a… I don’t know what it is. He shouldn’t speak publically, ever.

So this Badawi thinks America attacked itself on Sep 11 and US troops are planting explosives on innocent Iraqis to send them to their deaths as unwitting suicide bombers, eh?

Is there any Muslim leader who is not rabid bald-faced liar?

Instead of Muslim groups demanding Americans rescind their criticism of Islam, an evil religion, it’s time Muslims were put on the hot seat in public for their contemptible faith and its propagation through bloodletting.

Tantor on February 20, 2007 at 9:20 AM

AllahP:
Not sure why you think it’s necessary for Virgil Goode to distinguish between Muslims and Radical Muslims when you don’t have that requirement of Mark Steyn or Ayaan Hirsi Ali. When Steyn regurgitated the facts about Mohammed being the most popular boys name in a host of European cities, he doesn’t know how many of them will be “radical Muslims” (generally a repetitive phrase) or just “Muslims,” so if we are only against this “radical Muslim” strain (which you seem to think is not all Muslims or even most), then why worry about all these Mohammeds?

When Hirsi Ali says in her new book, “Infidel,” that “True Islam leads to cruelty,” she’s talking about all true Islam. Period. Ditto for her accurate statement that the 9/11 hijackers were “not a lunatic fringe who felt tihs way about America and the West. I knew that a vast majority of Muslims would see the attacks as justified.” Again, not sure why you even require Goode to make the distinction between the largely redundant “radical Muslims” and “Muslims.”

Let’s be intellectually honest here.
