Jon Stewart can get away with a Obama/fried chicken joke. This show CANNOT.

Yeah, if you laugh at liberal totems you’re being mean and probably racist. But Jon “scary talent” Stewart can make a career out of arching his eyebrows. Pop culture is not a level playing field.

Off topic: I saw that Half Hour News Hour some of the people posting here saw, and I am only disapointed that to have to wait so long for the next episode. Unless I heard wrong, the next one airs on the 4th. Bummer, this looks really promising.

As for those of you that say that Jon Stewart is sooooooo much of a better host, Jon Stewart was not the first host of the daily show and they keep changing weekend update hosts on SNL. So it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary to have to take a while to find the perfect host for this one.

Tell me you weren’t wincing a bit when they brought up Obama? Weren’t you wondering if they were going to do something a bit offensive? Jon Stewart can get away with a Obama/fried chicken joke. This show CANNOT.

It wouldn’t hurt them to bounce their ideas off Ace & Allah. I mean, why wait and receive their critiques when it’s too late to make changes? Ian can supply the embarrassing political celebrity photos.

I must admit that I don’t get “an historic” either. I thought the rule was “a” before a consonant and “an” before a vowel. I would say “a historic” however, with hour, I would say “an hour” quite simply because, in my dialect of English (and, I think, in most dialects of English) the h is not pronounced making it “an our”. If we didn’t write, it would be likely that people wouldn’t even remember there was ever an h in hour (since no one ever pronounces it) and it wouldn’t even be a question.

It’s “an” before words that start with an “h” that have a vowel sound, like honor, hour and heir. Whether or not to use it before historic is a subject of debate.

You write “a history” and many argue the same should follow for historic, but I can understand the argument that the “h” sound is more prominent in history than in historic.

Basically, if you’re going to put an a before an h-word, just make sure the h can be heard.

So you say “a hour?”

Now, to make this post on topic to avoid banning, I have to say it was better than I was expecting. I still don’t think it’s great. However, when I watch early episodes of shows I like (such as Friends, Seinfeld, etc), they are fairly lame. The characters are flat…the jokes aren’t that great….you get the idea. It can take a while for a new show to get in it’s groove (especially a sketch-ish comedy show). I’d give it a few episodes before I declared it hopelessly lost.

Judging from all the trolls on this topic, liberals are having a meltdown about the surprisingly funny and professional satire show on Fox.

The show even got a good review from Tom Shales and we’re supposed to believe that half the people here did not like it? Too funny.

The show was great and there were at least a dozen topics–from the type of children’s books that the NEA promotes to global warming to the ACLU–that liberal satire would never touch. Hence, the left-wing hysteria and need to post negative reviews while pretending to be conservative.

I’m sure you’ve seen it. It’s not nearly as bad as I expected. It’s also not very good at all, but that means it’s like pretty much every other comedy show on tv, including the allegedly hilarious Stewart and Colbert…….

Oh, and one quick question: while the ACLU does provide tons of material for conservative comedy, I thought the first “commercial” was a little off-base. I thought pretty much everyone, liberals and conservatives, agreed that any group, no matter how vile and despicable, from neo-Nazi’s, to the godhatesfags losers, to gays, to abortion activists on both sides of the debate had the right to assemble and voice their opinions. I mean, it’s kind of the very definition of freedom of speech and assembly. Am I wrong on this? Are you against the neo-Nazi’s right to hold their little hate rallies? You know, the old, “I hate what you say, but I’d die for your right to say it…”

Same thing popped into my mind when I saw it. I like to think of myself as conservative, but this one bothered me, as I had recently had a discussion with my college age daughter where I took this exact position. She was more on the “it’s ok to limit hate speech at college” side of things. Hoping she’ll grow out of it ;-)
