Awful, especially the ammo pouches or whatever in the upper left-hand corner. And so unnecessary: couldn’t they simply have asked the Sadrists in the Iraqi army to ship them a crate of U.S. ordnance for easy framing? Terrorist propaganda is one thing, but lazy terrorist propaganda is where I draw the line.

Exit question: How long before this photo shows up at dKos under the headling, “SMOKING GUN FOUND!!!!”?

I’d like to answer the exit question, but I’m not wading into that fever swamp to do it.

Shhh. Let the Kos Kidz run with it.

JammieWearingFool on February 18, 2007 at 3:22 PM

Nah, the left won’t care about this. Their response will be, “‘Terrorists use US-Gifted Arsenals?’ We’ve known about Israel for years. These new guys are just more Negroponte death squads. Tell us something that we don’t already know.”

rw on February 18, 2007 at 3:22 PM

I have to seriously admit this would be the best time to kill off Sadr. He is in Iran right now supposedly.

Just think his death couldnt be tied to Sunni death squads in Iran, he cant be seen as a martyr in the Iraqi war in Iran and best of all it would greatly embarrass the Iranians.

A true win win situation.

William Amos on February 18, 2007 at 3:25 PM

that would explain all those pro-democracy, anti-regime attacks the iranian government has been suffering.

jummy on February 18, 2007 at 3:33 PM

They also look like some of those action figure accessories. Like fauxtograph of the “US Soldier” being held captive. This is probably the rest of his (1:6 scale)gear.

And some one from the military might want to also bring up the fact that NATO 7.62×39 won’t work in a AK-74/AKM, I could be wrong. Unless the Iranians are getting M14s also…

liquidflorian on February 18, 2007 at 3:52 PM

I’m not a photoshop expert. I can barely edit my product photos on my websites. How do you tell fauxtography?

lorien1973 on February 18, 2007 at 3:53 PM

Who do these people think they are…. the Associated Press ?

Acme Ammunition Company, Made in the United States, manufactured especially for W. E. Coyote……. {super genious}

PinkyBigglesworth on February 18, 2007 at 4:29 PM

dKos probably MADE it.

$5 it ends up on one of the big three networks without the photoshop reference.

Are we seeing what $90,000 in your freezer buys?

Wade on February 18, 2007 at 5:28 PM

This is nothing more that telling the Nut-Roots what they want to believe. Sadly, the Nut-Roots are so stupidly ingnorantly gullible that they accept it.

Wow. I haven’t seen a “pineapple” grenade in some 25 years. I think we quit using them, much less making them, during Vietnam or soon after if I’m not mistaken. We sure as heck didn’t have or use them during the time I was enlisted.

Also, the “USA” brand of ammo (shown in the FARS picture) are not supplied to the US military in that packaging. US military bullets are in plain packaging, just like all the other stuff in small little cardboard boxes (ie: gauze bandages, band-aids, pencils, whatever small). Military suppliers use plain paper greay/tan boxes with the caliber, LOT number, etc stamped on it, but no “branding” at all. Those “USA” bullet boxes are retail versions sold in every gun/ammo store there is in the US and abroad.

That’s a pathetically unintelligent attempt to incite people… but I just consider the source (especially concerning the pathetically unintelligent part).

SilverStar830 on February 18, 2007 at 8:47 PM

SilverStar830 calls it, you won’t find “made in USA” on any military issue gear.

In fact, you won’t find “made in USA” on ANYTHING that is authentic. Products manufactured here say “Made in the USA”. That sticker has the red USA ’shopped in, if you look you’ll see the rectangle outline.

Weak.

NATO doesn’t use the 7.62×39,you mean 7.62×51,otherwise known as the .308 Winchester, which the M-14/M-1A does chamber.
The stuff in that pic is just commercial Winchester/Olin stuff, available at Wal-Mart & it does fit the AK-47 & the SKS,I’ve got a few boxes of it myself.

Frantic Freddie on February 18, 2007 at 10:27 PM

I know Bush is planning on invading Iran it was only a matter of time.

The evil Boosh Empire stockpiling weapons in Iran is the first step in such a plan.

Does anyone remember “Baby Food Milk Factory” signs?????

Apart from numbers, and weapons from Iran, I really think the “Surge” will work, as long as the gloves come off, and we, as a Nation, can kill these S.O.B.’s in mass……

Then let us see the next “media war”………. CNN is coming close to climax to “seal the deal”…..

PinkyBigglesworth on February 19, 2007 at 2:59 AM

Thanks Frantic Freddie! That is what I wanted to know….

liquidflorian on February 19, 2007 at 4:14 AM

Even if it were true, this is all they can come up with?

Enough to outfit one determined soldier?

And, even if it were real, how do we know it isn’t bootlegged from China?

The day I believe the mad mullahs of Iran is the day they scream:

Allah was big mistake, we’re all reverting back to Zoroastrianism!”

The grenade pictured is a Russian F1 anti-personnel fragmentation grenade and, as far as I know, has never been used by the US Military.

Here’s an interesting revelation:

The F1 grenade has been supplied to various foreign countries over the years, including Iraq and other arab nations, and there are different production variations according to country of origin (in terms of finish, markings and spoon/lever design). Though obsolete and no longer in production, it can still be encountered in combat zones.

I have no doubt that the grenade pictured is currently in use by the Iranian military.

RedinBlueCounty on February 19, 2007 at 12:23 PM

opps, looks like I messed up a close tag. Oh well, I’m sure that people will understand the point I was making.

Just to point out the significance of the post, I’ll repeat it.
