He did not elaborate but went on to talk about services enjoyed by U.S. troops in Iraq but denied to many Iraqis.

“Let’s take, for instance, Saddam Hussein’s palace – that’s where our troops are living,” Murtha said.

“They have everything they need. They have electricity, as they should. They have warm water. They have all the things that you need and we provide for our troops, and I agree with that,” he said.

Murtha saying that only 42% of our troops even understand the mission they’re on in Iraq, which is not only a slam at the intelligence of our troops a la Senator Kerry but also seems to be a statistic Murtha has pulled out of thin air.

You’d think other democrats would be embarrassed by him and shuffle him off to the side, but they don’t. He’s merely expressing the crap a solid percentage of Americans now believe. It’s very sad.

General George Patton set up in a palace too for a little bit, but he usually was found prowling the lines, looking for bottlenecks, encouraging the officers, pumping up the enlisted, giving on-the-spot strategic counsel, directing military traffic out of muddy gridlock, whatever was necessary , rather like our troops are doing right now.

I’m talking too much, but I have to comment on this one. I think the Dems can’t lock him in the attic the way they want to because of their unique problem. Since all of the people in this country who hate the military are Democrats, they are terrified to criticize them in any substantial way.

When Clinton – hater – needed a military with balls, he went to the Pentagon, but the generals were at the country club sipping scotch and telling war stories, and he was impotent to kick them in the ass and get what we all truly needed in the GWOT. It was his own fault, but it was still a problem.

Now, they have senile Grandpa Jack and they can’t tell him to stfu because he “was a Marine” in WWI. I think they suspect that all former Marines are nuts like him, so they don’t know he’s actually lost control of his faculties.

I suspect they are plotting to have him bang his head so they can have him committed…

Ok, it looks like Murtha no long feels that our troops are inadequately trained or supplied so I guess his proposed amendment limiting troop deplyment is no longer needed and he’ll withdraw the proposal. After all he said it himself, they have everything they need so he has no reason to complain.

Make sure that everyone e-mails the above quote to every Democrat in Congress the next time they complain about things like equipment shortages.

I work beside one of those palaces.

No troops live in palaces, though most palaces in the IZ are work areas. Most live in tents or trailers without running water and have to walk ~50yds to use a sink or bathroom.

Those few of us in the Embassy part of the IZ have it better, because the Dept. Of State is based here. They pay for better conditions. Of course, this is also the only area 99% of the press and congressional visitors see, so they think it’s indicative of all living conditions.

It’s not, not by a long shot. Visitors with common sense or who actually try to learn what’s going on know this, but visitors with a pre-existing bias then go home and say how great the troops have it over here.

This guy is sickening to watch. I had to stop it. He is, in my humble opinion, nothing short of a traitor for even suggesting the restraints he wishes to put on the military and the Commander-in Chief. I reminded the wife last night about how in 1950 troops from Japan were rushed into combat against North Korea ill-prepared and ill-equipped for the fight. They ended up in the Pusan Perimeter and held on for dear life until we could get more of everything needed to WIN. I also said that if, God forbid, that would happen today, Congress would have so hamstrung the C-in-C, that he would not be able to respond to such an act of war w/o checking first with Congress if it was okay. That is down right treasonous of them.
Another thing that’s been bothering me and I heard Murtha say it again. The Dems want to change the direction of the war. I surely hope they mean they want to win because the only direction other than that is to LOSE. I will not accept nor will I submit to surrender to this enemy. The Dems seem to have already done that for me…

Only ~2 years ago there was a Hue & Cry from the Donks, their political shills, and the pandering MSM when anyone dared to say Murtha was anything but a man to be respected, a decorated vet, a military man, a patriot, a Marine… their wet dream: one who “challenged” the Pentagon and Bush.

So the media gave him center stage – and over time he’s made himself known to the rest of us… at least those who’ve actually paid attention to current events and politics.

I’ve wondered why they kept letting him, and others like him, speak in public at all, much less offering support. It simply made no sense, to me, to allow him to demonstrate his senility / stupidity (redeploy to Okinawa), his hatred of the military (condemning Marines as “murderers” long before investigations were completed, much less a trial), and his sheer cowardice / treasonous obsession with repeating Vietnam, with destroying the US from within, with infecting anyone who survived the Vietnam era with that same defeatism and self-loathing. Think Carter’s “malaise” whine.

I’d guess there are 3 “segments” of US voters… ~40% are what you would think of as traditional Jacksonian Americans, ~30% are products of the Stalinists hugely successful efforts to take over the public institutions of our society, and ~30% are “swing voters” – those wavy gravy types who would rather watch American Idol or Survivor Moonbatia. This last group doesn’t want reality to intrude upon their bubble of woolly wankery, metrosexual moobs ogling, Anna Nicole coverage, and the like – and can be scooped up and delivered to the polls if you can hit them often enough with a meme which binds to any of their receptors. The remainder are probably too stoned to find the polls.

I’ve concluded the Donk bubble is both deaf to everything outside the echo chamber of illiberal socialists and moonbats and, more importantly: they don’t care if it enrages the ~40% of voters who love America and have no desire to become a Surrender Monkey and Tranzi Tool. I’ve also decided they’ve gauged the swing vote in the US electorate correctly, too. Proved it, I’d say, in 2006.

Seems to me the signs are rather clear: down this road lie 3 eventual outcomes…
1) dhimmitude – the jihadists will easily defeat the Code Pinks
2) a massive attack on US soil which, may or may not “awaken” America
3) a Civil War

LT, the conditions ain’t any better on any of the other bases either. Most Marines in the rear these days are living in what amounts to a converted ISO container (for those of you not in the business, it’s a 20 foot shipping container like what comes off the big freighters) or under canvas. Yes, there is A/C for the brutal summer months (when it works) and we are VERY thankful for that and the shower/head trailers at the end of the row (about 50 yards on average). So far as I was concerned, this was the lap of luxury! The first time around, I slept in a hole or a truck and my shower was out of a canteen cup. Here’s news for ya: the infantry STILL lives that way when on patrol! Frankly, our accommodations are luxurious…when compared to how we could be living. Hate to break it to Mr. Murtha, but armies of occupation, when they settle in, have a natural tendency to try and eke out a little comfort. We don’t commandeer houses, take over neighborhoods, loot (as a rule, and it is HEAVILY punished if discovered), or indulge in any of the other common occupier activities, so to begrudge a tired infantryman a roof over his head (in an unoccupied building, can, or tent) and access to a hot shower (after either standing in line or walking an extra half mile to find an empty trailer) after a long patrol is, quite honestly, shameful.

But then, at what time after the end of this man’s honorable service (I will grant him that much) has shame been a factor in his decisions?

I shared a 12×12 room with 5 other officers (3 majors, a CPT and a 2LT)… and we had it good. The Soldiers were in 60 person bays (and they still had it good compared to elsewhere). 1 TV for 750 guys, a PX that was smaller than my room and run by two NCOs who convoyed 2 hrs every other week to buy stuff at a larger FOB to sell to us… so we could buy toiletries and an occasional candy bar. That was my second tour. First tour we slept on the ground, or in our vehicles, then lived in tents w/o floors, A/C or heat, no PX…

Our local fm talk radio morning show (warroom.com) was at the BootMurtha rallies.If I was in his district, I definately would have voted for Irey (his R opponent), Murtha would’nt even debate her, cause he knew she would have run circles around him.

And I wonder just how much backstabbing a loyal, dedicated, professional military force will put up with from a bunch of treasonous *ssholes who despise the military. The other day somebody asked what the next Boston Tea Party would look like, and I think I have a pretty good guess.

CanuckinPA, I was wondering the same thing as I was reading through everyone’s responses. I am so sick of this man & wonder about the people of PA. The people I know from PA hate him but they live in Pittsburgh & Gettysburg areas. I can tell old Jack this, my husband spent 13 months not in a palace but in a hole most of the time. He did get to Camp Liberty for Thanksgiving but was back in the hole for Christmas and New Years. I don’t know any other Marines who are like this so I guess he’s the very rare exception. My neighbor who is a Marine getting ready to go back said he’d like to cap him, which isn’t nice he knows but . . .
I just don’t understand these people. Murtha is an asshat as is the rest of the Dims and turncoat Republicans. What a bunch of losers.

Heh. As if I’d be talking about it on an unsecure channel if I was fomenting (excellent word, by the way) anything. But then moonbats will believe anything, which is why they’re moonbats. I was just imagining what could happen after enough Democrat misrule. You know they can’t wait to gut the defense budget and start their social engineering experiments in the military, except this time it’ll be like the Clinton era on steroids. Hell, they’d be spitting on all the troops right now–instead of just a few, like Josh Sparling–if they thought they could get away with it politically. (But they “support” the troops, though–it’s just in the same way that Ted supported Mary Jo.) Not to mention the fact that the military is a bastion of traditional American values like patriotism, honor, and service before self, and liberals just can’t let that go unpunished. I’m neither advocating nor fomenting a coup, but I could see one happening if (God forbid) the Treason Party took the White House and they made some sh*tbag like Murtha Defense Secretary.
