America’s love affair with Britney Spears ends tragically

Cry for help? Sign of a new, more “authentic” musical direction? Bold rebuke to patriarchal standards of beauty? Or just a desperate, eleventh-hour bit to avert her continuing transformation into Judy Garland circa 1965?

Kind of funny, but considering that it came a day after she bailed out of rehab, also kind of not. We’re looking either at a big comeback album in the fall, replete with teary Barbara Walters interview and a surprise performance in glitter pasties at the MTV Video Music Awards, or Anna Nicole Smith redux. Pray for option one.
Exit question: You think K-Fed ever finds it funny that he’s considered “the responsible parent”?
Update: Treach bypasses the easy Sinead O’Connor joke for the more daring Travis Bickle reference.

I hadn’t thought of that comparision, but good one! When I saw the picture, I thought, well at least she got rid of that brown mess and the extensions.

Yup! She’s definitely headed off the deep end. So…now she doesn’t want to be “touched”? Too bad she didn’t have that attitude much sooner.

Apparently she had enough of Anna Nicole’s death bumping her out of the headlines.

That is a good catch on the photos. The comparison is scary. The interview is even more scary – blah, blah, weird, “distraught,” “tense”, “not happy,” blah, blah etc … then “So what do you think of her new look?”
That’s all they care about? Her new look? Two very young children have two wildly irresponsible parents who are divorcing, the mother is going off the deep end … what the hell is going on? “What do you think of her new look?” Who is going to shoulder the adult responsibility of sheltering, nurturing and raising those two children so they have a shot at a normal life? It’s disgusting! Hollywood celebrities use children as props. And what a lousy a job did Britney’s parents do providing her with the guidance and shelter she should have had – no they pushed her as a child out into a realm where many adults fail. For a “family-friendly” corporation, Disney seems to have quite the nack for screwing up young people.

Decoy256 on February 17, 2007 at 2:09 PM
Ummm…Is it possible that when she went into rehab, they wanted to do a drug history test with hr hair? She bailed, got rid of the evidence due to the fact that her children may get taken away from her when it is known what she has done?
I don’t know how they do that test with the hair, but I know it is done….just a theory.
Or is she going skinhead-butch lezbo (that is an odd tattoo, maybe a ‘mark’)?

SailorDave on February 17, 2007 at 2:35 PM
Judy Garland had more talent in her little toe that Britney could ever have. Yes, a tragic life, ended too soon, but I just hate to see these two compared in any way.
Glynn on February 17, 2007 at 2:38 PM
Should this be on a political Blog? or is it just the deep seeded contempt uber conservatives have for people in the entertainment industry and the sick joy they take when they fall? From my observation to be super conservative means you have no talent or real sense of humor and are jealous of those who do. (Personally I don’t care for Brit’s act but many do.)
I feel sad for the girl; I hope she gets some help or lets people who really care about her, like her family, help her.
The “so what?”, “brittany who?” “brittany is stupid” posters are pathetic. You know you watched her early school girl innocent videos a 1000 times, lustfully in the dark in your parents basement. You know who you are. Any one that takes joy in the despair of others is sick, or I guess now I have to say conservatives? That was one thing I liked about the conservative side, all business and not distracted by these hollywood matters. I guess conservatives do care about enjoying destruction of others, especially perceived “hollywood” people. Sad.
I just feel dirty now posting on the matter at all. Got to go and pray for Brittany now; I’ll also pray for those of you with your inner hate issue and anti-social/humanity tendency.

None of my four kids ever liked Brittney so I’ve never been exposed to her music or videos. Is she talented or is it all hype? Her personal life is sure a mess. One of my son’s friends was a child actor and he is nothing like this. Very polite, feet on the ground. Normal family. Maybe that’s the key.

My wife was a hairstylist, and here’s how I remember an explanation of this.
Hair grows about a millimeter a day on a younger woman’s head. It is made up mostly of protein, but while growing draws on the aggregate chemical composition of the body. People who take LSD, heroin, cocaine, amphetamines, should not get their hair permed because thee is a great probability that the chemicals used will react with traces of druge chemicals in the hair and literally burn it during processing. My wife would warn people not to get perms until they’ve been away from hard drugs for at least 4 months.
That being the case, it is very easy to test for the existence of drug traces using a hair sample.
I don’t believe she shaved her head to avoid such testing, but you asked.
gmcjetpilot, this is a blog. A blog which allows comments. Topics get posted, people comment. Which is more hateful, people calling a tramp a tramp, or someone assigning untold evil to those who call a tramp a tramp? ::yawn::
Any feelings I have about Britney Spears are split between pity and disgust. She’s an adult, when her bad choices are made public and she shows no shame over them, she gets what she deserves, and my pity comes to an end. It would be good for her and life in general if she got help, but that’s up to her.

But you know that I just had to yank everyone’s chain a bit. :-)

Ever think Britney could of simpley had a change of heart, mabey she is tired of show biz and just wants to grow her hair out naturally and be a biker chick. She certainly has the guts (no balls for sure). I am see alot of conflicting opinions (confusion) posted here concerning the recent behavior of Britney Spears. One person questions the validy of even posting the mess here on Hot Air as being relative to the political process. My take is absolutely. One reason is as a social icon Britney has influence on the behavior of thousands if not millions of people, male and female. Second Britney is a PRODUCT of the entertainment industry who are decidedly Democrat in their values, as evidenced by their vocal and monetary support for the party. I see the relevance of such a thread on HA as other than a People Magazine or Saturday Night Live oppurtunity, to capitalize or canibalize on the terrible human tragady Britney Spears has become. There is no government agency to step in to rescue poor suffering Britney, who is in my estimation sucumming to the last tragic stages of a PROGRESSIVE DISEASE. Her behaviors are but symptoms of a much bigger problem. This is a text book example of all the insanity that can ensue during the course of the addiction process, whether it be fame, fortune,drugs,alcohol,ect.. I question an industry that produces people who are exeedingly wealthy as well as popular and are driven to such self destructive extremes. Where is the gathering of support by the very industry that transformed a once seemingly innocent adolesent full of dreams into a walking horror show? Rosie,Alexandra, anyone? Help a sister out. I submitt here and now that the opposite is true of Britney’s FRIENDS. The peer pressure is to continue on the party path to destruction. I say to the people who have posted here yes we should all pray for Britney, but not only for a recovery from her illnesses. I will pray that God gives Britney the strength to stand up to the tremendous peer pressure. I will pray that Britney becomes a shining example, of what faith in GOD can do. The subject of friends was raised recently in certian circles. It seems popularity is not a magic vacine against lifes trials.

Unfortunate move, as her head appears to have a pronounced dip in the middle. This is perhaps due to a lack of dura matter, but could be attributed to being ridden on the head, especially if the rider uses a Mexican saddle.Has anyone contacted her ex,whatever his name was?is? Britney is a red herring to occupy people from real news. THat’s why someone like me who has never heard a song nor seen a video by her knows who she is. I don’t want to know who she is, never did. But the media keep cramming her into my face. It’s nothing but gossip about her. And they don’t care whether they have a photo of her from five years ago. Then the next day, it’s last week’s photo, then seven years ago, all passed off as current. I actually thought for a while that she’s only a virtual person. One website had a run down on her incredibly ballooning and shrinking, and ballooning again ah, boobs. How can a woman go from a 34-A to a 34-D, then to a 34-B? Guess Britney’s press people were photoshopping her head onto whatever they thought was appropriate that week.
This thing called Britney is a simple example of the fraud of the MSM.

It was meant to be a general statement.
But, I have no doubt that envy has played a part in her crash. The entertainment industry is repleat with it. Egos, jealousy, money and drugs are a mainstay of the industry.
pocomoco on February 17, 2007 at 8:48 PM

And like the good little gawkers we are, we put someone else’s self-destruction on the front page news.

If you haven’t noticed, the self-destruction of a famous person is the media’s bread and butter. CNN, for example, has had wall-to-wall coverage on Anna Nichole Smith for at least the last 3 days.
And, evidently, it does make some people feel better or the media wouldn’t be showing it.

AllahPundit, this is your thread, so we are counting on you to pass the word along to Bryan. The blonde/Gwyneth Paltrow wig definitely pushed the envelope, but ya’ gotta’ know that if Bryan talks Michelle into shaving off her hair so that he can produce a Britney mockumentary…THAT’S IT, I am OUTTA’ here — and there may be a significant proportion of the HotAir readership that feels the same way about it that I do. Threat, threat, threat, your friend CyberCipher.

A pity no one loves her enough to convince her not to obliterate herself.
Just central casting vampires and ghouls.
A girl who was an incarnate Venus, smothered by her slick, enabling leeches.
The world needs examples of dionysian joy.
The jealous merely want it destroyed.
She needs to fire everybody and take care of her children. And see the divine spark in their innocence.
profitsbeard on February 17, 2007 at 9:39 PM
There is truth in this, but first she has to heal herself. She has been in show biz since she was a child herself. It doesn’t seem like child stars fare very well. One has to wonder about a parent who allows some of the things we are seeing (think Dakota Fanning). I grieve for the children.
Glynn on February 17, 2007 at 10:05 PM

Cries for help. Headed the way of Anna Nicole if someone doesn’t help her. Because these young celebrities have no life experience, they are easily misled by people who act like their friends to exploit them. Tragic and sad…
JustTruth101 on February 18, 2007 at 1:21 AM
If you’re a star in the entertainment industry, the easiest thing in the world is to get yourself surrounded by the worst kind of people, and that seems to have happened to Britney Spears. If you aren’t rich and famous like she is, and you hear these stars moan and complain about their lives, it can all sound ridiculously spoiled and arrogant, but I have a certain sympathy. The pressures are enormous and mostly misunderstood by us outside their bubble, and the parasaite-only environment that is their daily world can mess up anyone. A few manage to stay grounded and find decent people to help them, but many don’t. I hope she survives this – I think there’s a good kid in there somewhere who is just really, really lost.

Tough crowd…….. I hope I never fall from “Grace”…. and end up on this sight, but I am sure if I did, I will have deserved it.
Yet, I respect your opions,……. all of them. Each holds a hint of “truth”.
All I can turly say, for me anyway, …….
“Britney Spears, I apoligize, but I too, can not support you.”
I never bought any of your albums, but as a middle aged man, I did not fight hard enough to encourage morals in your generation.
I was wounded by being tagged as the “Angry White Male”, that voted in a Repulican Congress majority when you were growing up, and spent your formative years defending a responsible government, only for it to fall to ” the Clinton years”…….
“Sex without consequence, behaviour without reprocussions, If it feels good, do it, all over again”…
I am a Father of one, he is 4 1/2, I went to court to fight for my rights to be his father and gain custody. I changed his diapers from day one, paid the bills, and currently, preparing him for K….
Please forgive me, when I observe a celebrity with two children, without them……. [Anna Nichole went to a Casino, and died, but apparently was not thinking of her baby…. Britney, you have two toddlers, and you are doing this? Where were your kids? How are they going to relate to you?
As a Father, from this Blog, all I can say is if you want fame? Take it…… just don’t give up your kids. I am sure that they will not be proud to put your shaven head to next to your shaven genitals in their trophy case in whatever home they end up in.
Actions and words have consequences, or did no one ever bother to tell you that?
