I’m so very sad.

a4g on February 14, 2007 at 10:10 PM

Well, as they say, the stage is the actor’s realm, the movies the director’s and TV is the bastion of the writers.
These writers are a bit stiff at the very least. Great writing would even work with the wooden perormances by Rush and Ann.This is not great writing, it is lame. The jokes are broadcast from miles out on top of it.

bbz123 on February 14, 2007 at 10:16 PM

That was actually very funny. I particularly liked Chairman Ann’s line at the end – a jab at her critics. Rush used to have a late night tv show years ago which had a great platform. Taking real political events and skewering them with clever wit. Hopefully the writers of this show can take some tips from that.

thedecider on February 14, 2007 at 10:16 PM

I loved it and the libs will go bananas. Still wish they’d dump that stupid laughtrack.

bambam on February 14, 2007 at 10:22 PM

They are trying too hard or maybe the show got fooled and the writers are actually liberals.

Maxx on February 14, 2007 at 10:23 PM

Coulter really killed it with her last words.

Ouabam on February 14, 2007 at 10:27 PM

Good grief… Get rid of the d*mn laugh track.

Great writing would even work with the wooden perormances by Rush and Ann.

Rush’s performance was actually good. Certainly better than most of what passes as comedy on SNL.

spmat on February 14, 2007 at 10:27 PM

I dunno what video you guys watched, but I loved it. Yeah, they were a bit stiff for new comers, but this … this could be good.

I can’t wait to see it.

sonnyspats1 on February 14, 2007 at 10:29 PM

Laughtrack is horrible. Coulter’s last line was the only thing that made me smile. Take some risks, grow some balls; if you want to make people laugh, you have to offend someone.

JaHerer22 on February 14, 2007 at 10:30 PM

I loved it. It made me laugh out loud.

calnevari on February 14, 2007 at 10:31 PM

Please can’t we all just pretend this isn’t happening.

Alex K on February 14, 2007 at 10:37 PM

Wow I can’t even begin to describe how painful that was to watch.

I think my 8mo year old niece could do better with the laugh track.

F15Mech on February 14, 2007 at 10:42 PM

Jones Zemkophill on February 14, 2007 at 10:43 PM

Are you sure about that? :)

F15Mech on February 14, 2007 at 10:46 PM

-Laugh track sucks. As someone on another thread pointed out, getting an audience, especially for a new show, is not always easy. Maybe it will be gone in the future. Otherwise I’m sure Ian or Allah will post John Stewart mocking them in the near future.

-Rush can act. Anyone who caught his old TV show knows he is just as fun to watch as to listen to.

-Comedy is hard and sometimes it takes a little time to get going. Don’t bury this show before it gets started.

Bill C on February 14, 2007 at 10:46 PM

Well that was a HECK of a lot funnier than the first clip they let loose with! The laugh track is a problem though :(.

Kevin M on February 14, 2007 at 10:48 PM

This thing is tough to download so I can email it. Do you offer that ability?

Kevin M on February 14, 2007 at 10:51 PM

GIVE PEAS A CHANCE!

Ropera on February 14, 2007 at 10:51 PM

That’s the clip they showed at the Liberty Film Festival last November.

Though I don’t recall the canned laughter….probably because we were all laughing anyway.

And the one we saw had them instead receiving a call from Senator Hillary Clinton then saying in unison “take a message”.

Anway…from viewing this clip alone, I thought the show looked promising.

The Ugly American on February 14, 2007 at 10:53 PM

My theory – they are pretending that this is what the new show is all about. But, when it airs, we will all be pleasantly surprised at Dennis Miller behind the desk.

Uh, unlikely, but one can hope.

nailinmyeye on February 14, 2007 at 10:59 PM

1: Ditch the laugh track.

2: Actually light the cigar.

3: Have the Vice President dress like Rosario Dawson in Sin City.

infidel4life on February 14, 2007 at 11:00 PM

LOL. Rush’s secretary/receptionist was named “Rosemarie”. A shout out to Nixon’s assistant Rosmary Woods and the infamous 18 minute gap in the Watergate tapes, perhaps?

A subtle jab at the libs. Good stuff.

Jack M. on February 14, 2007 at 11:01 PM

Baby jesus is crying because that was so bad :(

lorien1973 on February 14, 2007 at 11:03 PM

Look at their head sizes. Rush’s head is HUGE!!! Anne’s is teeny tiny. Could be the paste.

bloggless on February 14, 2007 at 11:15 PM

Rush and Ann, if you’re reading this, “it’s not you it’s me”… Actually, it’s neither of us, it’s the writing (and the laughtrack! What the hell is going on? I will say that this piece kills that obnoxios other preview we’ve all seen by now, but get real… Where’s Dennis Miller and/or Colin Quinn?

I’m almost starting to believe what some others have joked about.. that they’re leaking this crap to make it look like amateur hour, and then they’re going to nail it when the real show actually airs. Sadly this is probably just wishful thinking on my part, but I’m going to hold out hope. Fox News has been able to destroy the competition, as has Fox Broadcast (24, American Idol… these shows have made television history), etc. Does anyone believe they put together such a crappy show full of laughtracks and they think people are going to buy it when any idiot can see (what we’ve seen) is pathetic at best. I suppose it’s possible, but I would hope this genius company wouldn’t do something so stupid.

RightWinged on February 14, 2007 at 11:20 PM

I’d rather watch John Kerry both 100 more jokes than watch that crap again. F’n’ awful.

The only good line was at the end, and Ann screwed up the delivery.

Keljeck on February 14, 2007 at 11:27 PM

Sounds good to me, Rush was looking Presidential and who would mind a Hot Hunny like Ann for a V.P.

If some of the low life incompetents we have for liberal lawmakers can act with Washington D.C. size egos then why not Rush and Ann?

Now THAT made me laugh.

ballz2wallz on February 14, 2007 at 11:34 PM

It seemed to me the writers didn’t understand the audience they were trying to entertain. Coulters last line for example… I think she originally said that in her column shortly after the 9/11 attack. At that time and under those circumstances, it put a big grin on my face, not that it was exactly funny, because I’m sure she was at least half serious when she said it, and I was at least half agreeing with her. But because it was something that needed to be said, it was a big anxiety reliever. But without that context, it’s not only was NOT FUNNY, but actually seems to deride the very conservatives they are attempting to entertain.

Both Limbaugh and Coulter have enormous wit and a cunning sense of satire. They know how to be funny when they want to, how to make a serious point, what works and what doesn’t and why. I’m surprised they agreed to do this scene because either of them should have easily spotted it’s serious flaws.

The writers of this show need to understand that what makes conservatives laugh the most is when the absurdities of the liberal mind-set is soundly lampooned. If they don’t figure out how to do that, just like Limbaugh and Coulter do everyday, then this show will flop and it will deserve to.

Maxx on February 14, 2007 at 11:35 PM

I cringe every time Ann says that last line. Before we invade someone, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity, perhaps we should first consider cleaning our own house.

Anybody got a good idea on how to go about doing that?

Comedy is hard and sometimes it takes a little time to get going. Don’t bury this show before it gets started.

These are people who have experience in making good TV shows though. These aren’t drug off the street and forced to make a TV show. Comedy is hard, true, but if you can’t do it yet. Satire is fine too, Sarcasm is good. Those 2 are far easier. Don’t we have that airplane! guy on our side now.

Nah, but this show so far has crap written all over it. At least Limbaugh and Coulter’s piece here was a little better than the other preview we’ve seen. I’ll beat that other piece here (picture an anchor doing the “Daily Show” thing)

“Today’s top story: Democrats moved on the nonbinding resolution, opposing President Bush’s policy in Iraq. When asked about their earlier votes in support of the war, and 13 years making the WMD case themselves, the Senate Democrats reminded us that this was before public opinion turned against the war.” (obnoxious laugh track)

Does that one line I just pulled out of my ass not beat “BO magazine”?

Gregor on February 15, 2007 at 12:14 AM

I’m a lefty moron? Look, I’m not even saying that the Coulter/Limbaugh sketch was bad, but the laughtrack was horrible, and it’s part of a show that looks horrible. I had high hopes when I heard rumors about the upcoming “conservative Daily Show”, but the preview we have sucks, you’ve got to admit that? That said, the sketch in this post was okay, though it would have been better had it been done in a venue like Mad TV or something. Perhaps they should make a “conservative SNL” instead of what they claim to be trying to do.

I’ll repeat my earlier comment:

was a little better than the other preview we’ve seen. I’ll beat that other piece here (picture an anchor doing the “Daily Show” thing)

“Today’s top story: Democrats moved on the nonbinding resolution, opposing President Bush’s policy in Iraq. Does that one line I just pulled out of my ass not beat “BO magazine”?

RightWinged on February 15, 2007 at 12:08 AM

I’m not even claiming that joke to be that great or refined… but tell me it doesn’t beat the “BO Magazine” bit, the “gassy” comment, etc. in the show’s preview? It’s the old “it’s funny because it’s true”. Democrats make their decisions based on opinion polls, the joke is clear without resorting to lame name calling and jokes for elementary school kids, and at the same time makes any libs watching feel uneasy because they’ve just had someone own their politicians on national TV in a joke and they can’t do anything about it… just the way I feel when Jon Stewart lobs up an antiBush joke and his crowd chuckles and then cheers uproariously. It’s infuriating because you wish you were sitting next to him and could lay waste to his premise with one or two single lines of logic.

Here’s another one for you:

“For the 47 month straight, the economy upset predictions by showing surprising growth in the jobs sectors, while record tax revenues continue to chip away at the deficit. When approached for comment Ted Kennedy shouted “Halliburton and pointed”, briefly distracting our reporter, as Kennedy escaped by crashed through the wall, in a way witnesses described as “like the Kool Aid guy”"

Again long winded and could be refined and go in a bunch of other directions… but you get the picture.

How about a correspondant in the field, standing out in the blizzard reporting on global warming?

RightWinged on February 15, 2007 at 12:38 AM

I need a reference – not that I doubt it, but where did you get that?

thedecider on February 15, 2007 at 12:53 AM

Lol, it was a joke, though pretty accurate… I don’t know exactly how many months we’ve gained jobs, but it’s been something close to 4 years…

Actually just looked it up… unless you question the source, (though this isn’t in dispute) here’s the latest

On February 2, 2007, The Government Released New Jobs Figures – 111,000 Jobs Created In January. Since August 2003, more than 7.4 million jobs have been created – more jobs than the European Union and Japan combined. Over half a million jobs (513,000) have been added in the past three months alone. Our economy has now added jobs for 41 straight months, and the unemployment rate remains low at 4.6 percent.

Okay, so it’s 42 months. And here’s the data on the shrinking deficit and record tax revenues
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2007-02-12-federal-deficit_x.htm?csp=34

(I only wish someone could explain it to the libs up here in VT who feel that somehow having the highest taxes per capita in the nation are going to solve all the fiscal problems we have here.)

Anyway, like I said, I was just pulling jokes out of my ass and not actually thinking them through. I literally typed each of those out in like 10 seconds… so sorry about my guess of 47 months being a bit off

RightWinged on February 15, 2007 at 1:00 AM

RightWinged on February 15, 2007 at 1:00 AM

Well…lower taxes wouldn’t support liberal causes that involve bigger government and more intervention into your personal life. Also, those darn big or small businesses would just try to re-invest in themselves and hire more people – can’t have that now, can we? No! Higher taxes mean we can support those who choose not to work – after all, it’s a constitutional right – free choice and all – and those who work should feel proud to have their taxes support them. It’s what the founding fathers intended *cough*. Bigger government and more social spending = better lives for tax-paying Americans. Just the way God intended it. What’s wrong with that?

Or not. Can’t believe I had to even think that.

mesablue on February 15, 2007 at 2:51 AM

It was a lot better than the other clip. I think they should get Rush Limbaugh in on the writing team. Once upon a time I saw a few clips of the Rush Limbaugh Show and thought they were pretty edgy and funny.

There was this octapus that killed itself by pulling the plug from its tank somehow, and the animal rights people went crazy blaming the zoo. Rush was all like, “It was it’s own fault! The stupid thing pulled the plug on itself!” And then he had a chef cook up some octapus on the show. It was beyond great.

There was some funny, but they had to spend too much time retracting unfortunatley stupid things that were later blamed on their editing/production team.

I’m going to watch it and Tivo it too. I’ll then write a letter to Fox telling them that. This show will need a bit to get it’s legs under it and it deserves our support if only to let Fox know that their recent “surge” to the middle is not as good for them as continuing to give their base what they want.

Forget the clip which was great.

What really is hilarious are all these people who have never commented on this site (liberals) who claim they hate it and how awful it is.

This is a very good sign that they are starting to worry about their monopoly on political satire and comedy being ended.

I don’t care who you are, that right there was funny!!!

Oh please….I liked it a lot. Give *ME* something I can laugh at. I never watch SNL, Colbert, whatever, whoever. They are not funny. Turnabouts fair play. Let the laughter and ridicule be fair & balanced. Ann & Rush are very popular with us right-wing nut cases. Give the television audience a chance to see them and get a taste of what we think is funny. I’d never heard of 24 til last fall when Rush introduced it to me from his radio program and now, I think I’ve found a new time slot to watch.

I loved it too! The laugh track didn’t bother me – actually made me nostalgic for Hogan’s Heroes, my favorite show as a yout’.

That was the show I was trying to think of when I first heard that laugh track.

As an invading “TROLL” I choose not to apolgize for my post.

A Limbaugh / Coulter ticket would be an absolute riot.

By the way…

How come it is expected that the first U.S. woman president will be a liberal democrat?

Why can’t it be a conservative republican woman?
