Then the Mellonhead.

They gave me a “manager” name Eric Jordan; a genuine knucklehead who took the predictable “he doesn’t speak for us, it’s just a song, free speech, etc.” route, and who can blame him. But he also said some really dumb things, like “who put you up to the protest call?” and “why would I associate Mellonhead with Chevy; we just make great trucks and wanted to create an ad that tells you that”.

Really? So, with utter market dominance in the 1950s, you are now at — what? — 20% of your previous market share, despite the inherent, overwhelming advantages that you have? If your trucks are so great, why are you spending $billions on advertising every year?

And if everyone is subject to the horrors of hiring a nutty leftist who then goes out and says stupid things, why doesn’t this happen to Toyota? Or Honda?

Answer: GM is just stupid.

I think we’re going to need a larger sample to have a really valid experiment. So we should really book Barbara Streisand, Nancy Pelosi, Madonna, Al Gore and Sean Penn as well. And probably a few others, but that’s a good start.

If this small scale field test works, then I’ll credit that the larger scale plan could work as well. Reasonable test on a small scale with little of importance on the line.

If it doesn’t work… at least we’ll know it’s not really a viable strategy. And that information alone would be worthwhile to have now, wouldn’t it?

So, my proposal is that Melloncamp could be onto something, but we need to run a couple tests to verify that it has real-world potential. Certainly a valid scientific query into the viability of the “negotiation and diplomacy with 0 force or defense” strategy, right?

So lets see if he can run a single person out of their supply of the word “no” with a massive surge of diplomacy to force usage of the (presumed limited) supply… it might be do-able; and it would be a shame not to know for sure.

Kind of like your son beating up his older brother and you drop a daisy cutter on him and stop listening to his CDs and then go to jail.
