Nation columnist on Obama: Why does John Howard hate brown people?

He’s got a pretty vicious rant and an important action alert about Howard’s prescience on multiculturalism and all the horribly racist thoughts his left-wing political opponents are sure he’s thinking.
Yeah, I predicted it. Didn’t you?
Is Howard, arguably the truest believer in the Iraq War this side of Dick Cheney, so supportive of the Bush administration that he is ready to attack anyone who challenges the president? No, that’s not the case. In fact, Howard has in recent days gone out of his way to tell Australians that he did not intend to “generically” criticize American Democrats; rather, he clarified, he was specifically attacking Obama. “I don’t apologise for criticising Senator Obama’s observation because I thought what he said was wrong,” explained Howard.
But Howard, a savvy student of US politics, is unquestionably aware that many prominent Democrats — including figures such as John Kerry, Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter, who are far better known in Australia than Obama — have criticized both the war in Iraq, which Howard continues to support unquestioningly, and the general approach of the Bush Administration to the so-called “war on terror.”
So why the full-force assault on Obama, who has gained more global attention because he might be the first black presient of the United States than because of his stance on the Iraq War?
Consider that last paragraph your exit question. Any answers? Any idea why John Howard, in an interview on Saturday night, would have zeroed in on a guy who made worldwide headlines earlier that same day by announcing his candidacy for the presidency? Let me know what you come up with in the comments.

The time has come to start shouting “race baiting” at the top of all our lungs each time an event such as this occurs.
doufree on February 14, 2007 at 7:37 PM
Barack Obama is black?!?
Savage on February 14, 2007 at 7:46 PM
The real questions are why does Osama, er, Obama *HATE THE TROOPS* and why is he a traitor, aiding and abetting our enemies during a time of war?
georgej on February 14, 2007 at 7:47 PM
No, not according to most black Democratic politicians. Oh..but he is clean.
Max Power on February 14, 2007 at 7:51 PM
Howard is a racist for not following that day’s talking points. And because he can spell.
pedestrian on February 14, 2007 at 7:57 PM
I thought he was Irish as in Barrack O’bama
Kevin43 on February 14, 2007 at 8:06 PM
I believe Howard sees Obama in particular as an aid and comfort to the enemy not only because he advocates withdrawl from Iraq, but also because he believes that Obama is, at best, a Muslim sympathizer.
omegaram on February 14, 2007 at 8:08 PM
All about race with these idiots. Has the thought crossed his mind during one of his Obasms that maybe the guy isn’t qualified?
Which leads me to The Incredible Lightness of Being Barack Obama.
JammieWearingFool on February 14, 2007 at 8:14 PM
Obviously Howard hates clean people.
MamaAJ on February 14, 2007 at 8:16 PM
I disagree with you. Therefore you are racist.
aengus on February 14, 2007 at 8:18 PM
LoL… Obama hasn’t even been close to a primary and they’re already trying to paint him as a probable presidential candidate.
A possible long long long shot, yeah, but considering him a probably candidate? Hardly.
But his stance on Iraq? Absolutely a world opinion issue.
Lawrence on February 14, 2007 at 8:21 PM
So, it’s his blackness that makes him good presidential material, is that it?
shaken on February 14, 2007 at 8:36 PM
Maybe Howard hates heavy smokers who used to do a lot of coke.
JammieWearingFool on February 14, 2007 at 8:37 PM
Barrack needs to be elected just on the fact that he keeps filling up at the pump and is still alive.
Didn’t his wife say something about all other Black American men being lost to self service? Did I misunderstand her point on 60 Minutes?
Hening on February 14, 2007 at 8:52 PM
Howard is a man of integrity. He can’t stand down when he sees such a worm of a human-being masguerading as the savior of an American political party. You have to admit from the outside looking in Barrack Hussein Obama is a joke. He11, from the inside looking in he’s a joke. Americans won’t admit it because they’re too busty with American Idol. The honest media can’t admit it because of political correctness. The MSM can’t admit it because out of a field of 10 he’s the only one they might slip past the people. We can’t admit it because he’s the best the Dems have to throw at us.
Griz on February 14, 2007 at 8:55 PM
Because he was specifically asked about the bill to withdraw troops from Iraq proposed by Obama in an interview. But never let the facts get in the way of hysterical accusations of racism, we all know that is one of the lefts primary tools for attempting to gain political leverage.
bondo on February 14, 2007 at 9:00 PM
I don’t recall Howard shouting Obama’s blackness from the high hills in his rightful criticism of Obama, but the media never forget to remind us.
SouthernGent on February 14, 2007 at 9:03 PM
Howard isn’t a racist, he just objects to cowardice. He’s a cowardist.
aengus on February 14, 2007 at 9:08 PM
Seconding Kralizec.
Sharpton to Obama: “Just because you’re our color doesn’t make you our kind”
Absolves Mr. Howard of the futile racist accusations and makes the writers’ questions mute.
However, this w/b more accurate:

I thought he was Irish from the south..O’Bama.
My the Aussies meant Osama…NBC can do it. Fox, anyone could confuse them. Hope army dorm doesn’t grow a beard.
shooter on February 14, 2007 at 9:31 PM
on second thought, maybe this Howard guy is just smart.

I never thought I would see the day that a liberal would use the race card. Imagine that, a liberal using race to intimidate someone. I just can’t believe that those little liberals would stoop so low.

Let’s see how Obama would fair in a hypothetical Kenyan election:
“But, more pertinent, why the reluctance for 2/3 of eligible Kenyan voters to vote for a Luo man? Isn’t it time that Kenyan society moves beyond the old fashioned notions that a man must circumcised to be a viable candidate? Why do circumcised tribes like the Kikuyu or the Luhya look down on the Luo for this reason only? Well, except the Kikuyu who cannot abide anyone who eats fish. Isn’t it time to move on from these archaic notions that limit who can be a nationally appealing candidate and who can’t be?”
(not making this up).
And the Nation is all a twitter that people are actually analyzing the man’s politics and commenting on them, not whether his privates pass muster with the community elders.

Barak is an Israeli name. Jew hater!
Attila (Pillage Idiot) on February 14, 2007 at 9:55 PM
As for your exist question (rhetorical, I know), none of these guys is potentially the next American commander in chief.
mikeyboss on February 14, 2007 at 11:12 PM
It’s called the race card – or perhaps it’s race-baiting. Either way, let’s make Obama look like the victim of a right-wing attack by mentioning the very thing those of African-American persuasion identify him as not-having, i.e.: blackness. But leave it to the elite MSM (no doubt mostly white people) to actually defend his blackness. More liberal apologists using minorities for political gain. Nothing new here.

From The Nation:
1. Because left-wingers keep demanding government gimmes for the Aborigines.
2. Because Australia is a magnet for immigration, including illegal immigration.
None of which is John Howard’s fault, but liberals never let logic keep them from smearing anybody who opposes them. Post hoc ergo propter hoc.
Ali-Bubba on February 15, 2007 at 5:02 AM
1. It’s part of an Aussie anti-literacy program?
2. He thought he was Irish (h/t Kevin43).
3. He had heard Illinois politics needs “cleaning up”.
4. Howard has figured out — all by himself — that the only Democrat without a vote in favor of military action in Iraq must be cast as a pansy without serious national security and anti-terrorism credentials.
Good on ya, John Howard.
Jaibones on February 15, 2007 at 8:13 AM
Prominent Democrats? Three losers. I’m surprised he didn’t include Al Gore.
Carter, he lost his reelection bid. L-O-S-E-R!
Kerry, he lost his bid for President. L-O-S-E-R!
Kennedy, he didn’t even win the nomination! L-O-S-E-R!
I’m sure some of the resident liberals will be happy to point out all the Republican losers throughout history. I also hope they explain why Bill Clinton is no longer a prominent Democrat as he actually was a winner, two times over.
RedinBlueCounty on February 15, 2007 at 8:33 AM
Hay Johnnie, don’t you realize that Obama’s announcement of his candidacy highlights his antiwar stance, or is that concept too difficult for you to understand?
RedinBlueCounty on February 15, 2007 at 8:43 AM
Australia is 150 miles from the largest Islamic country in the world. If I was Australian I wouldn’t want O’B as the American president either. If you look back to the 80’s the press was touting Australia in the same vein as apartheid South Africa. Now it is going to start all over again. The press and the lefty politicos have turned on our troops, now it is time to turn on our allies.
Howard doesn’t hate brown people. Howard hates stupid people.
