Wow! What more can be said of this man’s bravery and…insight!…to speak of democracy in the context of the middle east not knowing what to do with it because they have been slaves of dictators and theocrats. I’m always shocked to see commentary like this from Muslims who generally support the dictators and Theocrats – whether from fear or intimidation. Long live this man! May his message spread throughout the middle east.

I believe many in Iraq feel the same way. People such as him are our, and their, only hope for a successful outcome. We somehow have to visualize our allies in the arab world. It’s easy to fall into the “let them kill each-other” mindset when things are going badly. He represents the people we’re trying to liberate. We need to understand that they are there and not abandon them to the jihadis.

Ignoring what ‘Infidel’ posted, Iraq’s progress is about a good as could be expected. That is to say that more rapid progress was unlikely given the different religious factions and the fact that the ethnic minority suppressed the majority populations for several decades.

If that man is not Iraqi (or if he is) what sort of following does he have?

Iyad Jamal Al-Din is an Iraqi political activist who is opposed to establishing a religious state in Iraq. His comments are inspiring because he expresses sentiments so rarely heard. Iraqis who share his ideals are probably too afraid to voice their opinions. Other world leaders are too afraid of “offending” someone.

Will we ever hear of him again?

I certainly hope so…
