Video: Murtha rips Howard, says Iraqis will rout AQ “the minute we’re gone”

posted at 10:15 pm on February 12, 2007 by Allahpundit

From the mind that brought you an over-the-horizon redeployment to Okinawa comes this latest exercise in magic and wonder, in which a Sunni population threatened with ethnic cleansing chooses to fight the Sunni jihadis in its midst instead of coopting them for battle against the Shiites. Or am I misunderstanding Murtha and what he really means is that the Shiites themselves will “get rid” of Al Qaeda in the course of massacring pretty much every last Sunni in the country?

He also drops a variation of the chickenhawk argument on John Howard, thanking him for his contribution to the war effort but noting that it’s simply too insubstantial to make Murtha care much one way or another what he thinks. A few more dead Australian soldiers and then, maybe, he’ll listen. So much for Peter Pace’s opinion, eh?

Note: the clip has been slightly edited.

Murtha is living in a f-ing fantasy world. Howard was just pointing out what everyone knows already. Really, what the F are we going to do with grampa?

x95b10 on February 12, 2007 at 7:51 PM

Wow, the idiocy is strong in this one.

But can someone explain his logic? The Iraqi’s are just waiting for what, exactly, if they can wipe out AQ anytime they want? Instead, they enjoy the bombings or something? Can anyone explain this? Anyone? Bueller?

Classic Democrat. The only people he’s willing to fight with are our allies.

I’m 2 weeks into a 5 month work assignment in Australia and I’m disappointed to see that things here are just like back home.

The network news is clearly stacked against Howard…that was very apparent by the way they’ve been framing this latest issue with Obama and how they cheerlead for the opposition party.

The opposition leader, Rudd, is constantly yipping at Howard’s every move with intellectually dishonest arguments and criticisms. Yesterday’s attempt to censure Howard over his statements about Obama was just pathetic.

Pathetic………. did this embolden our enemies, or cause them to reconsider their attack on us?

Mr. Murtha?……….. Mr. Murtha?

What ya’ll are missing here is he figures whatever worked in Vietnam will work here too. He can spout off whatever he wants as long as its Anti-USA Even if it is completely bug-nuts of an idea as long as its coming out of his appeaser pie-hole the anti-war crowd will eat it up because it will mean bringing our troops home to be redeployed in Darfur.
Not that I am opposed to helping stop that genocide I just think its important to keep USA interests first. the Left seem just want to use the military for anything that has nothing to do with USA security. How does one go so far off the deep end like him I don’t know though…

John Howard is a great man. I admire his guts. Says what he means. Amazing how with the internet the world is so much smaller. It is just as easy to read the Sidney Paper as it is to read the New York paper, thus events, such as elections, politics etc are no longer afar. If you are conservative in view there, we are conservative here, facing same problems, dealing with like minded people in our free and Democratic Society.

People like the pottymouthbloggertwins and Murtha are truly lost and without direction. It goes beyond all comprehension and explanation- BUT ONE. We are at war folks, not just Iraq, but a spiritual war with the evil that comes out from these people minds and mouths’s. And there seems to be many more like them.
I can NOT explain it any other way. Its beyond all comprehension and explanation, but one.

Am I actually hearing Grandpa Simpson express angst that John Howard disagreed with a “policy decision” of the POTUS? This is bizarre on so many levels. Grandpa has long lost any semblance of common sense. First, he completely ignores the over-arching point of the Prime Minister. Second, he tries to express a “point” by projecting some offense to our POTUS on the part of Mr. Howard. Then, he goes completely off-track with a truly senile assumption that Iraq will somehow just resolve itself. Along with term limits, I really think our politicians should retire within a certain age limit. But then, I also think the elderly should submit to annual driving tests. I guess that makes me anti-elderly in some way.

The only way to wipe out the Wahabi Sunni al-Qaeda would be to commit Genocide of all the Sunni population.

After that the liberal’s talking points will be “Out of Darfur into Iraq. Stop the Genocide”.

I freaking hate these intellectually dishonest asshats like John Murtha, Mr “I won’t take the bribe AT THIS TIME. Maybe after we do more business.”

The peoplein the Johnstown area, who are Murtha’s constituants, are literally afraid to vote against him. The local talk radio morning show here had several “Boot Murtha” rallies in support of Diana Irey, who was running against him. We conservatives in PA were sorely disappointed with the results of the last election, now we have 2 lib/dem senators… Casey and Spector.

mrfixit on February 13, 2007 at 5:53 AM

The peoplein the Johnstown area, who are Murtha’s constituants, are literally afraid to vote against him.

Why? Does he have some magical power that permits him to see who voted against him? Congress isn’t elected by voice vote.

Stupidity and cluelessness this great, combined with a compelling need to broadcast it to the world under the impression that as a former Marine, he possesses unique insight, deserves some sort of an award, although I don’t quite know what it should be:–A golden Kumquat? A pair of Gabby Hayes’ shorts? A dozen copies of Adam Sandler’s fart routine? A date with Madeline Albright?

I believe that Nanci Pelosi uses him as a “useful idiot” to drive their anti-war points across by the man with the utmost moral authority. When she didn’t give him the prized position, they probably made a ‘silent’ deal that he can spew anithing he wants, without critique. Notice how he never gets any. That way, they can go on having it both ways, attributing the ‘crazy’ talk to grandpa.

Entelechy on February 13, 2007 at 1:50 PM

Allah is exactly correct. When the Shiites start massacring Sunnis, just to be sure every vestige of Al-Qaeda is gone, Murtha and Co. will be outraged by the bloodshed and find some way to blame Bush.

Vanceone makes a great point. If the Iraqis can get rid of Al-Qaeda, what, exactly, are they waiting for? Is Murhta implying US troops are a hindrance to progress? Is the next argument from the left going to be the military should leave because they’re impeding the destruction of Al-Qaeda?

schlagerman on February 13, 2007 at 2:59 PM

Ladies and Gentleman, the leader of the House Armed Services Committee..

madmonaco on February 13, 2007 at 4:07 PM

It’s just that we, obviously, provide the incentive to recruit Al Qaeda. Iran wants us in there, Al Qaeda wants us in there. The minute we’re gone, they’ll take care of Al Qaeda by themselves.

“It’s just that we, obviously, provide the incentive to recruit Viet Cong. China wants us in there, the Communists wants us in there. The minute we’re gone, the South Vietnamese will take care of the Cong by themselves.”

Hmm. Nope, sounds just as moronic either way. And one is already proven by history to have been a colossal mistake.

Congressman Murtha, please explain why, if Iran and AQ “want us in there”, that they are so in love with the thought of a cut-and-run Democrat winning the White House in ’08? The two thoughts cannot be reconciled. But since when do you need to reconcile thoughts, all you need to do is spew fertilizer for the prevailing BDS.

Congressman Murtha, please explain how the indigenous Iraqi forces will destroy their enemy quicker without U.S. support than with? So you’re saying that our military is just that incompetent? Just that ineffective? Or just that stupid and lazy? Perhaps it’s all the obscene amenities they are too busy enjoying.

Congressman Murtha, you make me sick. You have dishonored your Corps, you have nullified the honor of your service to this nation, and you have betrayed your constituency with your seditious statements.

Murtha is the stealth element in the Democrats’ campaign to impune the military.

By publicizing Murtha’s Marine career, our instinct to place veterans on a pedestal is undercut, as he is quite obviously retarded…

How about we ask the troops?

Seriously. What do you say liberals? If the troops take a vote, and say they want to stay and do the job – can we just give them the funding and tools they need, and will you shut the #@!$ up?

After all, you “support the troops,” right?

A slow bleed, huh? Disgusting is the gentlest word to describe it.

Thank God they “support troops,” I guess. Wonder what it’d look like if they didn’t?

Professor Blather on February 14, 2007 at 1:15 PM

A Republican VP misspells “potato” and we hear about it for years, this moron is so far out of touch with reality and the MSM won’t even touch it.

The first question for Murtha, Pelosi, Dean, etc. at every new conference here out should be, “What makes Murtha think that the Iraqis will rout AQ if we leave?” Make them defend that asinine statement or retract it.

cmay on February 14, 2007 at 3:44 PM

I agree with Allah, Murtha just announced that his opinion is that the US strategy in Iraqshould be to encourage an outright massacre.

I also agree that Murtha has just disparaged the substantial contribution of blood and treasure made by the Australians.
