Potty mouth fembigot down

John Edwards’ now former blogstress was the talk on O’Reilly tonight:

After the airing, Amanda Marcotte resigned from the Edwards campaign. She’s blaming it all on Bill Donohue, and the AP is only too happy help her tote that banner:

One of the chief campaign bloggers for Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards quit Monday after conservative critics raised questions about her history of provocative online messages.

Amanda Marcotte posted on her personal blog, Pandagon, that the criticism “was creating a situation where I felt that every time I coughed, I was risking the Edwards campaign.” Marcotte said she resigned from her position Monday, and that her resignation was accepted by the campaign.

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, demanded last week that Edwards fire Marcotte and a second blogger, Melissa McEwan, for remarks he deemed anti-Catholic.

It’s a shame that the AP singles out “conservative critics” to credit/blame for all of this, when the critics who probably had more of an impact were the progressive Christians who also saw bigotry in Marcotte’s inflamatory writings. Put another way, which seems more likely: That Edwards worried about what Bill Donohue thinks, or that he worries about what his fellow Democrats who also happen to be Catholics think? With Hillary! and Obama waiting to crush him in about a year, he can’t afford to leave out any potential voters.

And all of the above masks the truth at the center of all of this, which is that on their face Marcotte’s writings on Christians and Catholics in particular smack of rank bigotry, from the 114 times she mimicked the name of Christ as “Jeebus” to the ways she graphically described carnal intercourse with the Holy Spirit. That’s what earned her the criticism from Donohue and from us and other conservatives from the progressive Christians as well. It’s not a smear to accurately quote someone’s own words when criticizing them.

Our friends on the left will undoubtedly go ape. They will attack us and others who were in the mix on this story. They won’t accept the fact that the initial hiring of Marcotte was a hint that something was broken within the Edwards vetting process, nor will they accept that bigotry is bigotry no matter who the target is or how much you try and soft pedal it. They won’t accept that words mean things, that a blatantly thin defense of “it was all satire” won’t fly when Marcotte’s writings clearly weren’t satire, and that it is possible that their own ways with words can become liabilities to their preferred candidates and political party. They’ll go off on apples and oranges comparisons to bloggers on the right whose work was clearly meant as satire and who aren’t on any presidential campaign staffs. In short, they won’t get it.

More: Marcotte vows revenge. For…being quoted accurately? Sheesh.

More: I just noticed this from Michelle’s post:

Bloggers heralded the decision to keep them; the Catholic League was outraged, and a top adviser to a rival Democratic campaign took a shot: “Apparently they’re more afraid of the bloggers than they are the Catholics.”

Predictably, Kos is gunning for the rival campaign. But what he’s decrying is nothing more than normal politics. In hiring the Blunder Twins Edwards created a self-inflicted wound that Hillary! and Obama were bound to exploit. They would have been fools not to exploit it.

Of course, the problem for the netroots is that Edwards’ wound is their wound too. And that’s gotta hurt.

More: Howard Kurtz already has a solid story posted about the brouhaha. Unlike the Associated Press, Kurtz references the writings that actually earned Marcotte her criticism–the anti-Catholic screeds as well as the unhinged posts on the Duke rape case.

Hehe. Who didn’t see this coming? I’m no Kreskin, but was easily able to call it 4 days ago. Now, I just need sleazebag number 2 to qit within 3 days. I think the other one will resign tomorrow. Here’s my post from 4 days ago…

Edwards is an idiot. These two wackjobs will be gone within a week. The vile things they have written on their blogs are not going away, and this issue will not die. It just shows what bad jusgement this guy has, that he is too stupid to immediately realize that. I predict that within one week these two sleazebags will “resign of their own accord for the good of the campaign.”

It will be interesting to check the Edwards campaign disclosures to see what her separation package entailed. Divide it by the number of posts she made to the Edwards blog, and there should be some numbers to rival CEO compensation.

So what no-show job with what liberal group will she land next?

The think Amanda should take away from all this is to never underestimate the power of prayer.

You mean people were praying for her to get fired?? If I had prayed about this at all, it would have been for her to stay on. Who better to represent a Democratic presidential candidate? She was perfect.

By the way, what happened to the first post on this subject? It was up for about ten minutes or so and then somebody Marcotted it.

Laura on February 12, 2007 at 9:39 PM

Perfect! Edwards has permanently lost the ability to do the right thing and fire her. This will follow him throughout his (possibly now shortened) campaign. What a maroon.

What’s funny is this poor victim of the evil Bushitler anti-speecha machine censors comments at her site… I think it may be early to say she’s doing it to me (as I’ve never commented before, and perhaps I’m in moderation because it’s my first comment… though I have a feeling she won’t allow it)

I’ll repost my comment here for the HA audience’s pleasure anyway (though do to language, I’m sure it will be in moderation here as well):

So let me get this straight… You’re a sickening human being and what was being revealed about you was an embarassment to the Edwards campaign… and this is some else’s fault? Gotcha.

I’m sure Bill Donohue also made you say things like:

I’m not an idiot. I’m a twat. Get it straight.

I’m a hot, moist, inviting twat. Warm, wet, inviting. But not to you or your friends. Even if I were single, these nubile thighs do not wrap around the hips of Republicans. You can fuck yourselves or the dry twats of the self-hating misogynists who will allow you tiny penis to penetrate them. Have fun! Um, the wounds you get from rubbing you un-lubricated dick repeatedly into your heartless, soulless woman–iodine is your best friend, my be-scarred friend.

(And yes, you said it… perhaps it was in a drunken rage so you may have forgotten, but you did say it. And by the way, after looking around to find a picture of you I’m thoroughly disgusted by the comments.)

Anyway, leave Donohue alone. I’m sure you and your ilk will find some way to explain that this is yet another example of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy and Bush stiffling free speech. Perhaps you can throw in a line about how you’re concerned that they want to send you to Gitmo. Make sure you rant and rave like a lunatic, calling Bush every name in the book as you complain how he is stomping on your right to free speech. We love when you libs say what you want, while complaining that you can’t say what you want.

(quick, delete this comment!)

RightWinged on February 12, 2007 at 9:50 PM

RW- I had no idea she was thaaat bad…so then can someone please tell me how I am supposed to respect her as a woman? She obviously has no self respect..why should I respect her?

Pam on February 12, 2007 at 9:59 PM

And when the moonrises they shall eat their own and cry woe upon the cruel world.

And the moonbats did lament that their vision was denied and they wailed unto the heavens decrying how unfair the holy net has treated them when free speech is only for the true believers and they must cast out the wicked and sinful with the righteous true tinfoilers.

Oh WOE upon us that castigated the harlot who should be forgiven of her sins (not the least a very big mouth) and may her reappearence bring joy to the exaluted net breathern.

(quote from the Anti Saint John of Edward and his leftist cult upon the fall of the Heathen back to Earth.)

You Can Take the Woman out of Pandagon, but You Can’t Take the Venom out of the Woman.

I had no doubt that she felt constrained each time she hit the keyboard and that, psychologically and behaviorally, it would be impossible. Human nature is what it is…

Now she can go work for a: female, non-white, non-rich, non-Christian candidate…wait, none such running…ohhhh…pity…well, back to cussing.

There’s always Pandagon!

Edwards: I’ve talked to Amanda and Melissa; they have both assured me that it was never their intention to malign anyone’s faith, and I take them at their word.”

Patterico points out here http://patterico.com/2007/02/12/5816/marcotte-resigns/ a post Marcotte made on her blog just yesterday

http://pandagon.net/2007/02/11/review-of-children-of-men/

The Christian version of the virgin birth is generally interpreted as super-patriarchal, where god is viewed as so powerful he can impregnate without befouling himself by touching a woman, and women are nothing but vessels.

I don’t think she’s capable of contolling herself. It seems to be pathalogical.

Entelechy on February 12, 2007 at 10:29 PM

Amanda needs to study her catechism a little more (her English, too, but that’s besides the point). Anyway, God allowed Mary to be so pure that she was born without original sin, the only person to be born that way. She also went to heaven without actually dying. So, I think that Amanda is mistaken. Mary is actually superior to all people. Amanda needs prayer.

It seems now every day there is a new reason to get a case of the red @$$ with the incredibly biased media. AP’s stringer caught with terrorists, Arkin, Dan Rather, AP’s mosque problem, and now this sloppy reporting.
Nothing like glossing over or ignoring significant facts.

So why has she threatened revenge? because we didn’t get her “satire”?

This is the first I ever heard of a commedienne vowing payback for not getting their “act”.

91Veteran on February 12, 2007 at 10:46 PM

ROFL …. yeah. Right. Sure she “resigned.” Can I sell you a bridge now?

Of course she resigned. Looks like she is smarter than Edwards in recognizing the major problems she brought to the campaign. What does that say about John?

News2Use on February 12, 2007 at 10:51 PM

There is only way for Edwards to handle this worse than he already has so far. Right now he’s thinking to himself, “By not imediatley firing these two I looked weak, by not condemning their anti-catholic bigotry in stronger language than the mealy mouthed statement I made, I appeared anti-catholic, anti-religion. So, now I’m going to fire the second one and strongly blast what they have written.”

If he did that, that would truley be the dumbest thing he can do at this point. It’s too late to do the right thing now, that would simply mean he would have the nutroots as well as everybody else attacking him… so that’s why I now think this is what he will do. I think he has a knack for doing the stupidest thing at the “wrongest” time.

Kirsten, Kirsten,

Freedom of speach is great, but not when it involves absolute falsehoods such as the lies these two Democrat Dumbells tell about people, and especially the made-up nonsensical stuff they post about Christianity, as well as the general social conservative populace.

When you make up this kind of bull-sqeeze you deserve to get called for it. When you defend it after being proven wrong, you should expect to be ridiculed. And most of the Christians you attack are going to respond with nothing more than pity as you wallow in the seclular-left gutter of society.

I didn’t see this coming. Edwards tells everyone “i’m offended but I will keep them”, then tells her to resign. This way he gets as close to the cake and eating it to.

Sneaky sneaky.

unamused on February 12, 2007 at 11:40 PM

Greggish, thanks for the link.

It looks like even the battiest of moonbats gets things right once in a while - check out what the Kos diarist suggests might have been behind this (cough) “resignation”:

Option 2: This was The Plan. Edwards’s strategists got together and decided they couldn’t go out without a show of strength to the netroots, an then asked for a resignation a few days later. I’m skeptical of this one, not least because I don’t think Amanda would agree to it.

Option 3: Edwards changed his mind. After sticking with her early, he bailed and asked for a resignation when he saw the right didn’t go away. Ick, but I think it’s still a possibility, though I like John Edwards and would hope not.

PJ needs to give this guy a Kewpie Doll for a moment of lucidity. My money’s on option 2. Of course, they may not have told Marcotte - and she may have been dumb enough to not see it coming.

Oh, and by the way: she says “it’s on.” So be careful. Expect lots of yummy anti-religious vulgarity and a few Important Action Alerts to be coming down the pike.

Holy @%@#$^, are these people funny or what? The more serious they get, the more I’m laughing.

Sorry, there’s just not a lot of context to statements like, “I’m a tw@t.”

I’m so morbidly fascinated by this whole story. Preschoolers have a better grasp of the repercussions of their little tantrums. A lot has been said about Marcotte’s anti-religion writing, but to me you don’t have to look beyond the “I’m a tw@t” comment. I can’t imagine wanting to be in a room with someone who would speak like that in a public forum, much less put that person in a position of responsibility. At best it shows a complete lack of common sense and character, at worst it’s sociopathic. Given that she can’t conceive her own responsibility in her current problems, I’m leaning toward the latter.

Mad Marcotte feels, like all bleeding heart liberals, everything is about THEM and their FEELINGS. She probably has had some personal experience with religion that has soured her against God, Jesus, and Christians (Catholics specifically). She has no honor or class and her only moral committment is to her own sick, twisted, and perverted beliefs.

These are the people who got the Dems elected in November. They are owed! /s

She never resigned; Edwards told her last week that in return for a big severance package, plus help in the future, he’d keep her on, but after a week she would ‘resign’.

dalewalt on February 13, 2007 at 10:42 AM

If, as Marcotte so rabidly states, she is a jihadist against “The Patriarchy”, why hasn’t she attacked the supreme patriarchal religion of them all … islam?

Liberals don’t recongize Islamic Fascism because their definition of fascism only includes white conservative American men.

If they publicly recognized an other fascist groups they could no longer blame all the worlds problems on white conservative American men.

Here’s what she is saying: She meant what she said when she said it, but didn’t mean what she said now that others say what she said and now she can say what she means when she says what she says.

The may be a bit confusing so I’ll make it easy to understand:
She said to Edwards what she means when she said what she said and how people have misunderstood what she meant when she said what she said. It’s the fault of other people because they say what she meant when they say what she said, so now she’s force to say what she means when they say what she said. How much clearer can it be?

Apparently now that she has left the Edwards campaign she is free to mean what she says without having to say what she means when she says what she says and others can say what she says without saying what she says she means when she says what she says. That should make thing a lot simpler for her and us.

Amanda needs prayer.

bloggless on February 12, 2007 at 10:32 PM

Exactly. She is completely filled with hate. The vile stuff that comes out of her mouth is like a snake spewing its venom. The best thing that we can do is pray for her.

I must admit, though, Amanda (and her ilk) provoke the curious side in me. I always find myself wondering what happened to her to make her into what she is. It is almost as if someone subjected her to bizarre medical experiments.
People like her sorta’ remind me of the Gollum character in the “Lord of the Rings” films.

Michelle was right on in her assessment of the situation - she hit right to the core of the issue in the first minute.

She looked really great too ……

While loyalty played into the pushback some, the real story is that we liberals are not taking this crap any longer and we’re pushing back.

And Ms. Marcotte is gone…

If she was asked to leave, with or without a package, which we’ll never know about, then it was by a white, male, rich and assumed Christian candidate - the irony is syrupy, sweet and thick as molasses.

I like Femmebigot :)

Kinda like driving past a car wreck. Ya just can’t help taking a peek.

“If they publicly recognized an other fascist groups they could no longer blame all the worlds problems on white conservative American men.”

Ah … it’s all so clear now, why couldn’t I see it before?

So, a liberal can pick and choose who they denigrate as long as it fits into the “all white men are evil” category, and ignore anyone else. Hmmm …
