Egyptian MP: Israeli mosque renovations must be stopped — with a nuclear bomb

Here’s every major Arab political pathology rolled into one: hysterical victimization, shameless religious demagoguery, and of course genocidal intent.

The kicker? He belongs to the same party as our man in Cairo:

“That cursed Israel is trying to destroy al-Aqsa mosque…Nothing will work with Israel except for a nuclear bomb that wipes it out of existence.” Mohamed el-Katatny of President Hosni Mubarak’s National Democratic Party (NDP) told the Egyptian Parliament.

During the special parliamentary meeting, which was convened to discuss controversial renovations near the Mugrabi Gate in East Jerusalem, other members of el-Katatny’s party called to revoke Egypt’s 1979 peace treaty with Israel.

“The war with Israel is still ongoing whether we like it or not,” NDP legislator Khalifa Radwan said.

There’s one other pathology here, but this one’s true of all politics — cynical opportunism. He wants nukes, but not because he gives a wet shinola about Israel. Like the rest of the Sunnis, he’s worried about Iran; that’s why Egypt’s been talking about developing nuclear “energy” for months. The evil Jews’ crimes play better with the public, though, so he and Mubarak are going to leverage the scapegoat here to advance their real agenda a bit.

Just how cynical is this? Even the Muslims closest to the mosque say it’s no big deal:

A spokesman for the Waqf, the Moslem clerical body which oversees matters pertaining to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, also said he believed the Mugrabi construction is unlikely to cause problems, though he refused to be quoted by name.

Exit question: This is potentially important, isn’t it?

I’d sooner like to see Islamo-fascism stopped with nuclear bombs

btw the reason the Muslims are going crazy is less that there’s digging going on but that the Israeli authorities are finding absolute undeniable proof that the Second temple did exist and it was built over by the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock. This would prove once and for all that Jews have the first claim to the land of Israel. Palestinains can’t have that because after all Jews are white europeans

He’s not the first person to float that idea; there are other theories as well. But it’s not going to change anything. For the temple to have existed at all is the real problem.

Um, because they are our friends and it will make them like us..duh!

Funny how a small construction project outside the mosque generates such noise. Muslim Waqf activities inside the mosque have excavated many valuable Jewish artifacts to dumps for years with not much attention.

Looks at glass-lined crater formerly site of a mosque, and the surrounding muslim residential area in Israel…

Hey Mohamed el-Katatny, does the word “Pyrrhic” have any meaning for ya?

Jones Zemkophill on February 12, 2007 at 7:09 PM

Well, he IS a Democrat, after all.

Speaking of Democrats … would any of our resident Democrats like to comment? If not – can we question their patriotism yet? (And their sanity?)

Western liberals have to be the only group in human history that has been told countless times they were going to be decimated or nuked or destroyed … and just choose not to believe it. That we continue not believing the rhetoric, after 9/11, is somewhere between hilarious and suicidal.

What are we supposed to do when a nuke finally does go off in Tel Aviv (or New York)?

Are we supposed to shocked and surprised?

Or should we just find the nearest liberal, slap them as hard as we can, and say: “SEE?”

One other thing to note: Palestinians are a made up ethinicity/nationality. No nation of Palestine ever existed until we made it up a couple of years ago, long after the left had given the idea of the Palestinians as a distinct group reality. These folks are basically Jordanian, its just that Jordan doesn’t want them and won’t let them become part of Jordan. The made-up Palestinian people-group is the only set of refugees that get bigger with every year. All others get smaller because their kids are considered part of the nation that takes them in. Palestinian kids, however, are still considered refugees even though they’ve lived in a different country all their lives.

Lovely double standard the UN has produced. And it’s not biased????

kemphd on February 12, 2007 at 7:35 PM

Won’t they just find a perceived reason to say we had it coming, Professor?

“If it weren’t for decades of _____________ (insert the anti-white, anti-Judeo/Christian grievance of your choice), the peaceful religion of Islam would have never been pushed to this extreme.”

Option two: They’ll say Bush did it.

What the hay, I’ll stick my neck out. But: I’m on your side on this one.

Commence flogging.

Iranically, the potential for a Muslim on Muslim nuke is, I believe, far greater than a nuke attack on Israel. One thing’s for sure, you can say bye-bye to all of Iran and Syria if somebody taps off a nuke in Israel.

(God to Abraham) “I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you.”

Wouldn’t Iran get a 2-fer with a nuke on Bagdad? Well a 3-fer. Revenge for the 9 year war that Saddam started – complete with missles raining down on Iranian and Iraqi cities. Hit the current Iraqi gov’t and US army. Also, it’s close by and easier to hit. Very very bad.

Funny, according to the Bible the Hebrew temple gets built. Funny funny funny stuff.

Matter of fact it’d be funny if it weren’t so tragic. Yet, it’s not up to mankind to fulfill prophecy.

I’ve been waiting for this since 2001. What have You been waiting for?

Iran can’t both weaponize uranium and miniaturize a warhead for a couple of years.

Because of domestic pressure they will use their proxies to use the first one mounted on a truck.

And the only metro area they can get close to in Israel…

Is Jerusalem.

DANEgerus on February 12, 2007 at 11:34 PM

It’s not a full blown crisis until underground testing occurs and we’ll know when it happens. Probably know alot before that. This Egyptian guy is just another loudmouth arab. You are the anti-peace person!

Buck Turgidson on February 12, 2007 at 11:56 PM

Just to show you that their politicians are brain surgeons just like our politicians

EricPWJohnson on February 12, 2007 at 11:59 PM

I must say, I don’t get the nuclear bluster going around. Even these nitwit Arabs must understand the Freakshow Death and Armageddon Factory that is our nuclear arsenal, and the fact that we can launch the deaths of 1 billion muslims at the first hint that these nutballs have done something that warrants it.

Surely all this crap is the “game within the game” sort of stuff.

The more I hear this smack the less I worry about them; I think they’re too stupid to hurt us any more…

Actually the Al-Asqa Mosque was built just a bit off from the Second Temple. It was acutally built on the position of the Outer Court. Ironically, Scripture says that they are to be rejected and left out:

Revelations 11:1 Then a measuring rod like a staff was given to me, and I was told, “Get up and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and the ones who worship there. But do not measure the outer courtyard of the temple; leave it out, because it has been given to the Gentiles, and they will trample on the holy city for forty-two months.
