As far as shameful, I find shame in the posting by Allah in exploiting this Marines situation. Leave it for others who will post this in hopes of getting more site hits.

OK Wade, So its just proof that yes even though we honor the men and women who wear the uniform, its still holds true that every now and then a moron gets through.. youre disgraceful.

Ty Ziegel has more integrity and courage than your small mind can ever comprehend.

I’m glad you find something you feel is worthy of a response. But you still haven’t answered the question.

You claim that this site is money driven and that your blog is not, and I’ll accept that as the reasoning behind your feeling that this story is disgraceful, but you still haven’t show me why I should accept your insistence that the story is actually disgraceful and exploitive? Is it because the Marine in question is disfigured? Is disfigurement the only criteria you use to determine whether something is exploitive? That makes me wonder if you believe that any pictures of disfigured men and woman should be banned from public display as there may be a case of someone profiting from those pictures. Do you think that these types of posts should be stopped because the subject of the post happens to be disfigured in some way?

Unlike you, I would call portraying a Marine, returning to his soon to be wife and family and living as normally as could be expected after suffering a debilitating injury, a very noble and honorable tribute and not an attempt to exploit someone. People need to hear these kinds of stories as they reflect the great spirit and commitment to love and devotion most Americans hold as high esteem.

Unlike you, I don’t use the content of a post as a determination of exploitation, but rather the intent of such postings and the effect such images have upon the reader. If HotAir was using this man in an attempt to persuade the reader to accept a political or religious ideology, or using the image to enforce a particular point of view, I would call that exploitive. Since HotAir makes no such inference as to the ‘meaning’ of this story, and lets the readers make their own determination as to it’s relevance and importance, there is no exploitation.

And as far as not being welcomed at your site, what difference does that makes at all? None, in my opinion.

Wade, I think you make an assumption of Allah’s motivation that is not true. In his posting he did not include any searchable language that would return results and thus drive the HA site meter. Instead, Allah included links to the picture and the story that passed the hits on from HA’s readership.

I just tried searching Ty and Renee Ziegel in my Google search engine and of all the hits that it returned, Hot Air was not one of them.

Thanks Allah for such a touching true love story as out Valentine’s gift.

That said, the story is most impressive and I wasn’t aware of it (what with not having watched TV or read dead tree newspapers in over a year. Neither do I subscribe to candy mags.) So thanks, AP, for the post.

HotAir until some recent posts has shown respect for others, in most cases. I think not in this case.

Cry me a river, Wade. The injured Marine deserves all of our respect and heartfelt appreciation for his sacrifice. Based upon your comments on this thread, you deserve none.

Wade is just sensitive about a fellow Marine who survived a terrible accident and (thankfully) can now get on with his life – and with the woman he loves, who is obviously in love with him. Just understand Wade’s projected defense of a fellow Marine.

Ziegel is standing tall, proud, with his sh*t tight as a drum and the woman he loves on his arm, recording what might well be the happiest day of his life for the record. I don’t see what needs defending. He has prevailed. That photo is one of triumph over adversity.

God bless them both and may they have many, many happy years together.

Or another reason could simply have been because the photographer told her not to smile.

When I got married, I was told to do all sorts of things, taking a “serious” picture was at least one of the many that were taken.

But I’m mostly saying that because of this picture, where both are smiling:

It appears (in that picture) that both of their impulses naturally tell them to smile when they’re picture is being taken.

What bothered me was that photo. It looked like she really didn’t want to be there.

I think I can speak to that, as there could be several valid reasons for her choice to show a serious face in the photo.

1. He is as yet unable to smile, she might be sensitive about not wanting to appear happy when he cannot do likewise.

2. His condition is serious, perhaps she would fear her smile might belittle that.

There isn’t an iota of question that she wanted to be there, given all they’ve been through. If she felt so, she would have run before this point.

The wives and soon-to-be wives of military men are among the strongest humans in the world. The left, the media (as if that wasn’t the same thing), and “peaceniks” haven’t a clue how brave such women are. They deserve far more honor than they ever receive, for they all suffer hardship in staying true to their man.

AP, great story, and neither the Corps nor this family is dishonored in having it spread far and wide.

It’s enough to bring a tear to your eye but it would tears of joy because of their love.

As for the story – it is very inspiring. Everyone who reads this should feel a great swell of pride for our folks in uniform, and for triumphs of the human spirit! Thanks Allah!
