Worth watching for the Morgan Freeman imitation alone.

Bonus hip-hop remix! This hit YouTube within the past week, but Ace had it yesterday. Which makes it officially “old.”

I’m speechless.

Thing is, Shawshank is just another lefty propaganda flik, worthwhile only as an opportunity to watch Morgan Freeman do that blank stare that he does.

It’s … nuanced.

Jaibones on February 10, 2007 at 5:23 PM

I liked the first one. The second? Not so much.

Guardian on February 10, 2007 at 5:23 PM

as they say in our dear old Ireland….

What in the Fek?

WastelandMan on February 10, 2007 at 5:36 PM

Thing is, Shawshank is just another lefty propaganda flik,

To an extent, yes. But answer me this: What was farther left – Shawshank Redemption or Forest Gump?

The answer lies in which one got the Oscar.

The most shocking aspect of Shawshank is the book’s author. Oh, and that Freeman played a mick. Course, guess they do have have “black Irish”

I admire and respect Morgan Freeman so much. That he declined an acting scholarship to be in the U.S. Air Force, that he is a private pilot and that he loves the sciences, especially space exploration and flight puts him in an extraordinarily special category.

Add to that the fact that he doesn’t want any Black History Month and said this to Mike Wallace:

I am going to stop calling you a white man and I’m going to ask you to stop calling me a black man.

I loved his narration of March of the Penguins.

Liked the Shawshank Redemption for the acting and special human emotions/moments; never know whether I like the sound of Zihuatanejo or Ixtapa better.

It w/b funny if they’d make a video about abnoxious Boxer – wait, no need – she’s already plenty abnoxious.

Entelechy on February 10, 2007 at 6:16 PM

Correction – of course Boxer is obnoxious, with an ‘o’ :(

Entelechy on February 10, 2007 at 6:24 PM

How were Shawshank or Gump lefty films? I’m sorta confused, expound please…

I was wondering the same thing. Other than the fact that Shawshank has Tim Robbins in the lead role, I don’t really see it.

…Course, guess they do have black irish.

Phil Lynott, the bass player and singer in Thin Lizzy, was black Irish.

forged rite on February 10, 2007 at 7:00 PM

You know, I never watched Shawshank because King hasn’t done anything good in 20 years, Darabont is extermely overrated, and Robbins is such a tool.

Thanks to JibJab and HotAir, I don’t ever have to watch that movie.

HotAir.com huzzah!

ScottMcC on February 10, 2007 at 7:16 PM

Since i mentioned Thin Lizzy, i should probably link to a song. I don’t see what’s liberal about those two movies either.

forged rite on February 10, 2007 at 7:18 PM

How were Shawshank or Gump lefty films?

Heh – I don’t see it either. My point was that Gump wasn’t all that lefty and beat Shawshank for the Oscar, so Shawshank couldn’t have been all that lefty.

Didn’t get the sarcasm across too well. Sorry.

Phil Lynott, the bass player and singer in Thin Lizzy, was black Irish

Well, I wasn’t actually refering to African-Irish. I was talking about black Irish, ironically. You know, because Black Irish are Irish with Spanish blood and Morgan played a character whose originally Irish in the book. Hence the joke in the film, “Why do they call you ‘Red’?” “Maybe it’s because I’m Irish.”

That didn’t come across well, either? That was a disaster of a comment.

Shawshank was not a lefty propaganda flick and neither Forest Gump. There weren’t decidedly conservative I suppose, but does everything have to be either far left or far right? No. Sometimes it’s just nice to watch a good story and be entertained, not lectured to or propagandized at. The only people who would think Shawshank and Gump are lefty propaganda are the people who can’t differentiate between the war in Iraq and an episode of 24. And you all know exactly what I mean by that.

John on February 10, 2007 at 7:42 PM

gump was totally rightwing. shawshank was stupid.

jummy on February 10, 2007 at 8:19 PM

shawshank was stupid.

You blaspheme.

Infidel.

Slublog on February 10, 2007 at 8:24 PM

First video didn’t suck.

spmat on February 10, 2007 at 9:41 PM

While the movie is not overtly left-wing, it does have a leftist happy ending, The Religous Warden and Authoritarian Guard Captain are being punished and the “criminals” are free to celebrate.

Again, I wouldn’t call it overt left-wing propaganda, but hollywood loves to take subtle and not so subtle jabs at religous people and authority figures.

JayHaw Phrenzie on February 10, 2007 at 9:47 PM

JayHaw,

The warden wasn’t actually religious. He was a miserable hypocrite, and the guy who was in for shooting his wife was wrongfully convicted. As for Freeman’s character, he got released. The “criminals” were an innocent guy and a decent guy who had made amends and served his time.

John on February 10, 2007 at 10:04 PM

Oh… Also, the Condi video was just bad. I can’t stand the Black Eyed Peas (or any derivative work) and it was a pretty low blow at Condi Rice. It could have been better, but was a little too heavy on the dem worship/anti war rhetoric.

John on February 10, 2007 at 10:28 PM

FABULOUS, JUST FABULOUS……… HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…….

PinkyBigglesworth on February 11, 2007 at 1:08 AM

Neither video was entertaining.

Maxx on February 11, 2007 at 1:12 AM

The warden wasn’t actually religious. He was a miserable hypocrite

And that’s the point, the Hollywierd left thinks that nobody is “actually” religious, just hypocrites that haven’t been exposed yet. And for that thought and others, Shawshank does lean left.

No it isn’t.

aengus on February 11, 2007 at 10:34 AM

First was pretty funny while there could be trouble figuring out if the second is clever satire or biting social comentary based upon perceived or actual truth.

Either way, lots of laughs!

Both score an irreverent eye-roll. Although I say we start using the word “Condollicious.”
