One last plug for AHA’s new book, currently pulling five stars at Amazon. Unlike the other interviewers she’s spoken with this week, Beck recognizes he’s in the presence of greatness and reacts accordingly. He also gets her to laugh. Wait until you hear what he said to prompt it.
It gets better as it goes along. Stick with it. And don’t miss Melanie Phillips on two British Muslims who share the same concerns as Hirsi Ali, if not the same religion.
Update: Is Hirsi Ali qualified to blog for John Edwards?
Do you see any positive sides to Islam?
That’s like asking if I see positive sides to Nazism, communism, Catholicism. Of course Islam preaches generosity and kindness and taking care of the poor and elderly and so on – but these values aren’t limited to Islam. If you weigh what is provided in terms of kindness and humanity against the evil that can come from a society built on radical Islam, you will see that liberals must stand up to this like they’ve stood up to other ideologies.

We love AHA.
Enrique on February 9, 2007 at 10:56 AM
We need to clone her. She is terrific.
CrimsonFisted on February 9, 2007 at 11:01 AM
Um, yeah, a nervouse laugh acknowledging the likely scenario. Still, if someone would say something like that to me and it was true I don’t know if I could laugh - brave woman.

She’s such a profoundly beautiful human being.
spmat on February 9, 2007 at 11:08 AM
The problem with this interveiw is that Glenn borders on patronizing her. Where her intent is clearly not to be recognized for her efforts, but to change the way rational people deal with the current state of affairs between Western culture and Islamofacism. She calls a spade a spade and wants the world to do it, too.

But Christian Radicals are just as bad as the terrorists
– Rosie O’ Piehole
This women (AHA, not Rosie!) is simply awsome.
Where are the women’s organizations (NOW)? You would think that they, at least, would stand next to her. But then that would require that they actually stand for women’s rights wouldn’t it?
Unfortunately if she is killed her message and life probably won’t even be mentioned in the media.
CrazyFool on February 9, 2007 at 11:14 AM
Glenn patronizes everyone he is in awe of. Call it humble. Call it perception. It’s not a bad thing and can help support her mission as he projects great weight and grave circumstances to her/our cause.
Griz on February 9, 2007 at 11:15 AM
Besides all the more serious aspects of this remarkable lady and the nature of our mutual struggle, it simply wouldn’t be HotAir if I didn’t point out that she is a major dolly.
I am unashamedly, unapologetically, a pig, and proud of it.
Jaibones on February 9, 2007 at 11:19 AM
She is the best notice to all of us as to why the liberals are a farce. NOW and all other womens groups should be supporting her. The standard of civil rights activists has been Martin Luther King, Rosie Parks, Ghandi, and a few others, AHA has even taken a larger, bolder, step towards freedom. Yet the left ignores her.
A marked women, marked for death and marked for greatness.
right2bright on February 9, 2007 at 11:20 AM
Ayaan Hirsi Ali demonstrates courage and wisdom that needs to be recognized and remembered. We all need to pay close attention to this woman and listen to what she has to say.
It is very intersting that she does not have the active support of organizations like NOW and those to the Left. They say they support many freedoms but when a clear cause, confronting the Islamic Assualt, becomes visable they are nowhere to be seen. Behold the hypocracy of the Left.
omegaram on February 9, 2007 at 11:25 AM
Her soft-spoken approach is far different from Brigitte Gabriel, but I find them both equally compelling.
asc85 on February 9, 2007 at 11:32 AM
Yeah, that bugged me too. I have yet to see an interview with her on American TV that’s fully satisfied. Either she’s being taken for granted or the host is falling all over. Treat her for the intellectual she is.
Allahpundit on February 9, 2007 at 11:43 AM
Just bought the book online. Has anyone read it? Looks good to me!
freakagriep on February 9, 2007 at 11:44 AM
Jailbones, I had the same reaction when I saw video clips of Ms. Ali. All you really need to know about our enemy is that they want to kill beautiful women like Ayann Ali just for walking around “uncovered.” In addition, even the non-jihadi muslims in her area of the world think that the proper way to raise a girl is to have her “circumcised” — a horrible euphemism for a proceedure that removes the clitoris and labia, therefore denying a woman any possiblity of sexual pleasure even within a proper muslim marriage.
Again, that’s all anyone really should need to know about our jihadi enemies; but somehow this doesn’t reach our loudest “feminist” leaders. In this respect, I suppose this conservative ex-fratboy is a greater feminist than the entire bunch of useless NOW “leaders.”
Credit is due to Tammy Bruce and Debbie Schlussel for their efforts; but I gather they are considered traitors to their gender by the socialist sisterhood. Sad.
Anton on February 9, 2007 at 11:49 AM
So true.
Have any of the major networks interviewed her? Wouldn’t she be a GREAT guest on “The View”? The Today Show? How about on Keith “I live in the 11th dimension” Olbermanns show.
darwin on February 9, 2007 at 11:57 AM
Beck says to her…
“You are most likely not going to die of natural causes. Why do you do this.”
–That was a strange, insensitive, and defeatist thing to say to her. I don’t think she believes that. My money is on her.
greggish on February 9, 2007 at 12:06 PM
AHA exemplifies what it really means to speak “truth to power”, as she actually risks death by her words.
I’m sure that point will be missed by those who use that cliche most often though.
thirteen28 on February 9, 2007 at 12:14 PM
AP stated that they are trying to get her, but security and her popularity makes it difficult. I would guess she does not make public her itinerary. I am sure she, and her sec. detail, need to check out HA. Hate to think what would happen to her if she stepped into a Kos tyoe office.
right2bright on February 9, 2007 at 12:43 PM
Would love to see Rosie’s face when she points out that Islam would have her [and her girlfriend] stoned to death. But then Rosie would probably just try to bully her like she does everyone else.
And the MSM won’t touch her with a 20′ pole - they don’t want people to know the truth about Islam.
Having her on ‘The Vent’ now — that would be cool!
CrazyFool on February 9, 2007 at 1:03 PM
You should, but not in a mocking way. It’s your fanny they’re going to get first…but keep on laughing until then.
Entelechy on February 9, 2007 at 2:04 PM
Greggish - i think in his own special way Glenn was trying to point out the irony of how she is likely to be a TRUE martyr at the hands of those who claim to be martyrs but are only perverts of truth.
Editor on February 9, 2007 at 2:36 PM
Beck says to her…
“You are most likely not going to die of natural causes. Why do you do this?”
and
“My family will keep you in our prayers.”
What, even though they most likely will not be heard or answered?
atbay on February 9, 2007 at 2:39 PM
“You should, but not in a mocking way. It’s your fanny they’re going to get first…but keep on laughing until then.”
- Entelechy
Would you like to elaborate on this statement? I don’t see anything mocking in Enrique’s statement.
gmaninatl on February 9, 2007 at 2:50 PM
What I always find myself asking each time she appears in a TV interview is “what is being done to protect this woman?” I assume she has to pay for all her own security, but I hope that her employer and other organizations are being vigilant for her sake as well…
bspoogeferd on February 9, 2007 at 3:01 PM
RE: Beck’s keeping AHA in his prayers….
“What, even though they most likely will not be heard or answered?” — atbay
————————————————————–
Atbay, what’s your point?
gmaninatl on February 9, 2007 at 3:01 PM
Just got her book! Wooo hoooo!
Way to go Glenn, for bringing this important woman to more people than she otherwise would’ve reached.
Tony737 on February 9, 2007 at 3:07 PM
A strong, intelligent woman indeed. Condi needs to take a listen before she asks to much of the Israelies.
gary on February 9, 2007 at 3:36 PM
You’d have to know Enrique for longer, see that he posts the same statement on every AHA thread, with the cleverness of deniability. Don’t fall for it.
Entelechy on February 9, 2007 at 3:43 PM
Also, gmaninatl, the ‘we’ is the clue in his statement.
Entelechy on February 9, 2007 at 3:47 PM
gmaninatl,
I think Atbay is referring to her being an atheist. Therefore, she wouldn’t believe in the power of prayer. It’s a shame that she is so smart and so lost.
Centurion68 on February 9, 2007 at 4:11 PM
I’m pretty sure I speak for everyone on this blog when I say we love AHA. It’s a succinct expression of respect and adoration. It’s also a way of saying “post more about AHA.”
I’ve also expressed the same brief sentiment about MKH.
For the record, we also love KP.
Enrique on February 9, 2007 at 4:18 PM
Enrique, if you’re sincere then like/admire/laud/love/adore AHA, KP, or anyone on your own, and let the rest of us do the same.
Not all of us ‘love’ or whatever KP, or anyone else.
Entelechy on February 9, 2007 at 4:47 PM
Do not speak for me.
right2bright on February 9, 2007 at 5:11 PM
Ok, I’m just reading this… Why the rip on Catholicism? Disappointing…
Sacwannabe on February 9, 2007 at 5:40 PM
You really consider this a nit worth picking? Lame.
Enrique on February 9, 2007 at 5:44 PM
Señor, usted no me engaña
Entelechy on February 9, 2007 at 6:23 PM
Probably because Catholicism has a very dark past, historically. I would have made the distinction though.
evilmrt on February 9, 2007 at 7:41 PM
Now Glenn is talkin’ to Irshad Manji. Nice work Glenn.
May God protect both of you.
Tony737 on February 9, 2007 at 7:57 PM
The Dutch government is still paying for her protection , even while she lives here in the US. I dont know how long that arrangement will be for.
VinceP1974 on February 9, 2007 at 8:58 PM
Glad to hear her comment about where we are as opposed to Europe. Europe’s post-modern selfish society gives a rip about what will happen to their children - which they’re not having. We lived there three years via a military tour and muslims were basically taking over the place - and that was in 99. These interviews, which I see more and more of, gladden my heart. America needs to wake up to this aberrant political system cloaked as a religion - NOW.
warriorlawyer on February 9, 2007 at 10:22 PM
There is absolutely no way to justify throwing Catholicism in with the likes of Nazism and communism. That is just very poor judgement.
Maxx on February 10, 2007 at 12:36 AM
I don’t like Glenn Beck. He’s too effusive, a bit smarmy. I imagine that’s why CNN chose him - to make the right look bad.
I am filled with fear for Ayaan. I curse the left for ignoring her, denying her their protection, and siding with those who want to kill her.
JimC on February 10, 2007 at 3:27 AM
It always cracks me up when someone makes ‘Van Gogh’ sound like it would rhime with Yo!
Kim Hartveld on February 10, 2007 at 8:38 AM
Cracks me up when somebody spels rhyme “rhime” … jus’ kiddin’ :-)
Tony737 on February 10, 2007 at 8:51 AM
ooops … that shoulda said *spells* … that’s what i get for bein’ a smartazz
Tony737 on February 10, 2007 at 8:52 AM
Ah yes, ’smartazz’… rhymes (rhimes?) with ‘jazz’… :)
