Holocaust denier tries to kidnap, “question” Elie Wiesel

posted at 5:49 pm on February 9, 2007 by Allahpundit

78 years old and they’re still trying to kill him. Thank god he’s okay; the thought of him living through Auschwitz only to be ignobly waylaid by some skinhead slackjaw would have been intolerable.

Anyone else here seen “Marathon Man”?

According to police, the suspect accosted Wiesel in the hotel elevator at around 6:30 p.m., saying he wanted to interview him. Wiesel said he would do the interview in the lobby. That’s when the attacker pulled him out of the elevator, police reported.

In a posting Tuesday on the anti-Zionist Web site ZioPedia, a writer using the name Eric Hunt takes credit for the attack: “After ensuring no women would be traumatized by what I had to do (I had been trailing Wiesel for weeks), I stopped the elevator at the sixth floor. I pulled Wiesel out of the elevator. I said I wanted to interview him.”

Wiesel grabbed at his chest and yelled for help, according to the posting. “I told him, ‘Why don’t you want people to know the truth?’ His expression changed, and he began screaming again. …” the posting reads.Police reported that the suspect tried to force Wiesel into one of the rooms, but ran away when Wiesel started yelling.

The online posting states that the writer intended to “bring Wiesel to my hotel room where he would truthfully answer my questions regarding the fact that his non-fiction Holocaust memoir, Night, is almost entirely fictitious.” Later in the posting, the Holocaust is portrayed as a “myth.”

Exit question: On a scale of 1 to 10, how gallant was he in ensuring that no women would have to witness an elderly Holocaust survivor being threatened/pummeled/stomped/tortured/murdered/any or all of the foregoing?

Blowback

Let’s drop this and cut to what’s really important:

Does the suspect believe man-made global warming is a fact, or is he a denier of that as well as the Holocaust?

Oh, as for this?

Exit question: On a scale of 1 to 10, how gallant was he in ensuring that no women would have to witness an elderly Holocaust survivor being threatened/pummeled/stomped/tortured/murdered/any or all of the foregoing?

1, since that’s the low point of the scale in your question. Otherwise, -4.

It appears that he actually did not have a way of making him talk.

Mazztek on February 9, 2007 at 5:59 PM

I’m so glad Elie Wiesel is alright. His book Night was amazing.

Holocaust deniers suffer from some kind of mental disorder in my honest opinion.

TheThink on February 9, 2007 at 6:04 PM

You know the story about Hoffman’s Method preparation for Marathon Man? I’m really glad Olivier subscribed to a less pretentious school of acting.

Alex K on February 9, 2007 at 6:09 PM

wish i was there with my working gloves in that elevator, i would’ve beaten that denier into another incarnation!

Defector01 on February 9, 2007 at 6:15 PM

Eric Hunt: Is it safe?… Is it safe?

Elie Wiesel: You’re talking to me?

Eric Hunt: Is it safe?

Elie Wiesel: Is what safe?

Eric Hunt: Is it safe?

Elie Wiesel: I don’t know what you mean. I can’t tell you something’s safe or not, unless I know specifically what you’re talking about.

Eric Hunt: Is it safe?

Elie Wiesel: Tell me what the “it” refers to.

Eric Hunt: Is it safe?

Elie Wiesel: Yes, it’s safe, it’s very safe, it’s so safe you wouldn’t believe it.

Eric Hunt: Is it safe?

Elie Wiesel: No. It’s not safe, it’s… very dangerous, be careful.

Exit qustion answer:

Feminists are enraged that the Left is giving such consideration to women, still. What was their Kampf all about – for this?

Did the attacker get away, and if so, is he being sought?

Entelechy on February 9, 2007 at 6:16 PM

Get ready for a spate of incidents by Holocaust deniers, each one more weird than the last.

Why? Because the MSM wants to get people slap happy into thinking as follows:

“Denier” = a dangerous, loonie tune fanatic.

Then all they have to do is scoot over a half step and make the same charge about Global Warming deniers.

Labamigo on February 9, 2007 at 6:17 PM

Typical democrat..

roninacreage on February 9, 2007 at 6:19 PM

Geeze.
Glad this scumbag didn’t have a better plan and that he chickened out before doing any serious harm.

LegendHasIt on February 9, 2007 at 6:20 PM

You beat me to it, Watcher.

And no, it’s not safe anymore for one “Mr.” Eric Hunt.

In a posting Tuesday on the anti-Zionist Web site ZioPedia

Anti-Zionist is anti-Jew. I wish the media would stop perpetuating (reinforcing, actually) our time’s most egregious distinction without a difference.

spmat on February 9, 2007 at 6:27 PM

he chickened out

Performance anxiety is a serious problem. No wonder he did’t want any women about.

That Wiesel still has to deal with some nut assaulting him is just sad.

taznar on February 9, 2007 at 6:30 PM

what would the “real” conservative commenters say?

“…well, i really don’t see what wiesel’s basis is for not wanting to defend his work. if the guy says that no women would be offended by what he intended to do, what basis does wiesel have for suggesting otherwise? btw, show us some more pictures of mkh, i’d love to toungue-bathe her!”

Okay, I don’t usually suck up, but this sentence was a moment of literary brilliance. Pitch-perfect language and structure. And I’m three months away from completing my English MA, so I’ve got all sorts of credibility here. Recognize.

Go hit Paypal right now, there’s no way we should be getting this stuff for free.

Enrique on February 9, 2007 at 6:44 PM

Waitasec, where’s the friggin Paypal button? I thought there was one around here somewhere…

Seriously, I’m feeling generous (and a little tipsy) and want to give HA money right now, where’s damn Paypal button? Grrrrr.

Enrique on February 9, 2007 at 6:47 PM

Somebody needs a CCW permit, or at least bodyguards with a few. He could have helped out the gene pool by removing the nazi from it. Hopefully the cops will shoot him as he’s trying to escape.

In a posting Tuesday on the anti-Zionist Web site ZioPedia, a writer using the name Eric Hunt

A more fitting name would be “Eeriec Hunt” with no space, you know, like Mike Hunt-say it fast. What a piece of dog poo.

And Labamigo-you’re right and it’s already started:
Ellen Goodman says

I would like to say we’re at a point where global warming is impossible to deny. Let’s just say that global warming deniers are now on a par with Holocaust deniers, though one denies the past and the other denies the present and future.

Ha ha. Sickening.

NTWR on February 9, 2007 at 6:54 PM

Rats, I found the “trip to Iraq” one, but not a general one…

Anyway, I hope this dude who tried to nab Wiesel has an unpleasant prison shower experience in his future.

Enrique on February 9, 2007 at 7:05 PM

Good thing the guy that tried to nab Wiesel isn’t a highly-trained Astronaut with experience in effective kidnapping techniques.

That’s unfair: he was just trying to have a healthy discussion? You neocons are trying to stifle free speech!

stonemeister on February 9, 2007 at 7:22 PM

Is Elie Wiesel still a babe magnet or does this guy think only women take elevators and Weisel took a wrong turn? He’s really shovelling it with the women angle, I think.

Actually, he was just wanted to make sure no one less frail than a 96 yo lady with a purse would be there to beat the living crap out of him.

I rank him a zero.

Dusty on February 9, 2007 at 7:53 PM

Is the world getting just a bit more crazy and angry? I get the feeling that mass violence in just around the corner. Simmering hatred and irrationality is accepted as normal by more and more people and I don’t see how this is going to end well.

I can’t find anything funny about this. That’s not to put down those who have because laughing at madness is a good coping mechanism. But this makes me feel profoundly sad.

Bill C on February 9, 2007 at 7:56 PM

DENIERS need brain transplants It is such a liberal bunch of BS to create more social porgrams. The dems are more worried about a one degree rise in temp over the last 100 yrs comparedto the 100;s being killed around the globe by terrorist daily and weekly and on and on. I wish they would come out of the land of OZ and face our real needs, the saftey of this country first and foremost over disputes within the entire scientific community over global warming BS

bones47 on February 9, 2007 at 8:55 PM

The holocaust DID Happen, FACTS are FACTS

bones47 on February 9, 2007 at 8:57 PM

So, did this moron get away, or was he arrested, or were the cops ‘forced to defend’ themselves? My hope is for the latter.

Anyway, the sad news is, Labamigo is probably right.

Wolfman on February 9, 2007 at 9:21 PM

The sad thing is, the death of Anna Nicole Smith will get more coverage than this story.

aengus on February 10, 2007 at 10:46 AM

This guy Hunt is a global warming denier too. Ellen Goodman told me so.

So I’m not surprised that Mr. Wiesel was assaulted in a GOP stronghold like San Francisco either.

Teddy on February 10, 2007 at 1:25 PM

He was probably afraid some lady might beat him up for assaulting an old man.

Mr. Wiesel needs to move to a red state … one that won’t interfere with his right to carry the proper tools needed to deal with this kind of scum.

Yeah, the world is getting nuttier all the time – we’re reminded of just how much every time we look around us.

I’m not sure that all of this will end well, either, but know that it will take all of us together to at least try
to make a positive difference in the world.

As far as for laughter, to laugh is to live; to forget laughter is to surrender and to die – then, and only then is the enemy victorious over those of us who choose life.

Laugh – you will not stop thinking, but you will have a better outlook and hope for the future.

Besides, some of it is rather ridiculous, isn’t it?
