I just read some more info on the happy couple. He actually solicited on-line for money to the tune of 2.5 MILLION dollars to put that ad on during the Superbowl. His on-line diary about it is www.mysuperproposal.com

Not all that it seems, I guess.

Let's look at this screed point by point (6+ / 0-)

   1. I hate America for the near-extermination and subsequent oppression of its indigenous population.

Given the fact that most of the extermination happened long before "America" came to be, perhaps you can direct your complaints to Spain and UK. (And maybe France for good measure). Also, if you are intent on blaming the present-day country, perhaps you can extend your feelings to Canada, and other North and South American countries. Just a thought.

   2. I hate it for its role in the African slave trade and for dropping atomic bombs on civilians.

Again, perhaps you should address your complaints to the UK. And also to the African countries whose chiefs willingly participated in the slave trade. As for atomic bombs, perhaps you could split the hate and aportion at least a part of it to Japan who refused to surrender and insisted on killing as many soldiers as possible.<blockquote>

REad the rest! its killer.... (point killing that is)</blockquote>

<blockquote>Since I have the “Dem” in my screen name I’m almost scared to set foot in here.
But suffice to say that’s why I am on this site and not on the Kos site. A nice present for the conservatives to mock. What an ass.

Fear not, and Welcome!

You be honest and we will too. And if you've got any constructive ideas to help build America up, I very sincerely want to hear them.

Thanks for the link, RD.

I was unaware of the Leftists plans to assault the Wall.
I think it will turn out badly for them.

Leftist activists who march to the Pentagon next month will discover that their path won’t be as clear as it has been in the past.

The group, led by Cindy Sheehan, Jane Fonda, Ramsey Clark and their ilk, plan to gather March 17 at the Vietnam Memorial Wall to begin a march to protest America’s involvement in the Iraq war. The date marks the fourth anniversary of the war’s beginning.

This time, however, protestors will see objectors if they spit on Iraqi veterans again, or throw paint on a war memorial. This time, they will encounter a buzz saw of Vietnam veterans and supporters who will gather to protect the Wall, and show their support for U.S. troops. The counter-protestors are calling themselves the Gathering of Eagles.

there it is on February 10, 2007 at 9:47 AM

You are welcome, there it is. I hope anyone in the area will show up to let the Leftards know what real Americans think.

darwin beat me to it - SouthernDem, it would be wonderful if you'd reclaim your party. Then we could have two loyally-opposing parties who'd aim to do the best for the U.S. As is, the Left is wondering toward the Utopian cliff, with no convictions for rights, freedom and opportunity, except for their abstract causes, and themselves.

To the Kos-America-hater - we finally know who prevents the world from being peaceful and happy - America! Breakthrough for a Global Sociology Course!

<blockquote>Guys who do public proposals might be counting on crowd pressure to influence the woman’s decision. I know of one woman who later regretted accepting such a ’stunt’ proposal.

James on February 10, 2007 at 1:47 PM</blockquote>

I agree with you and the others here who find public proposals to be out of kilter.

They put the woman on the spot and bring in an element of artificiality and coercion into the mix, leaving the lady feeling like she is not alone to express her intimate thoughts and feelings unless she does so before the crowd. The man already relinquished such options, turning himself into a public figure, like a politician or an actor, without the heart felt, deep, clear expression that can come with proposing marriage in a more intimate, private setting.

One of the aspects I loved about the time I proposed to my wife was not only the beautiful warm sunshine, the cool breeze, the sound of the ocean, the pleasant day itself, but the fact that we were alone, allowing an intimate, quiet, private interaction where we were not performing for anyone, save, if one wishes to split hairs, perhaps performing for each other and ourselves.

Yes, marriage proposals are best served in private.

<blockquote>We believe and advocate that a socialist society in our country will guarantee all the liberties defined in the Bill of Rights but never fully realized. These include the right of people to express themselves fully and freely through organizations of their choice and competing candidates who respect and are guided by the concept of building socialism.</blockquote>

I did a little checking on the Commie Party, USA. Among all the other hogwash of the “joys of socialism” the above statement shows the true nature of the movement. Please note the “freedom” to choose competing candidates “who respect and are guided by the concept of building socialism”. I have always known that Communism (even under the guise of Socialism) can not tolerate dissent, and even in their public statements they can’t hide it.

And I have to wonder what kind of "organizations of their choice" they will allow; something tells me my church will not be among them.

<blockquote>William, I will second whoever said your post was incredibly sweet. And no, it is nothing like the video. Your wife is a lucky woman, but I am thinking you would say you are a lucky man.

Glynn,

Thank you for those kind words.

Of course I feel and think that I am a lucky man.

<blockquote>I am probably the only female (and maybe male) in America that hates these grand gestures that are videotaped. It makes me cringe. No, I don’t know them. I think these moments are extremely private and personal, that’s all.

Quoted for truth (QFT).

Guys who do public proposals might be counting on crowd pressure to influence the woman's decision. I know of one woman who later regretted accepting such a 'stunt' proposal.

<em>"Since I have the “Dem” in my screen name I’m almost scared to set foot in here. But suffice to say that’s why I am on this site and not on the Kos site. A nice present for the conservatives to mock. What an ass."

SouthernDem</em>

I would hope you've been treated well here and my best guess is you have. What's needed is more discussion between us, not rants and accusations. Our goal should be what's best for this country, not what's best for any party or group. Unfortunately, I believe a system that was created to give power to the individual and not government, has been rewritten by powerful interest groups and selfish politicians.

I used to vote democratic but could not watch the constitution being rewritten any longer so I joined the side that at least made attempts from time to time to maintain it.

Anyway, I certainly hope you'll feel welcome in voicing your opinions and concerns, as it appears you have here.
