U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton should tap into her feminine side and wear dresses and skirts instead of trousers, fashion designer Donatella Versace was quoted as saying on Thursday.
“I can understand (trousers) are comfortable but she’s a woman and she is allowed to show that,” Versace told Germany’s weekly newspaper Die Zeit in an interview.
“She should treat femininity as an opportunity and not try to emulate masculinity in politics,” Versace said.
Skirts should reach to the knee and be worn with a short jacket or coat, she said. The best color would be black rather than the blue Clinton currently favors, she added.
“I admire her for her determination, which will hopefully take her to the White House,” Versace told the paper.

Hold on Donatella. I’m having way too much fun calling her The Pantsuit.
Stick to your business and let me have my fun.

And Elton John should tap into his masculine side.

Is Versace upset she wasn’t wearing one of ‘his’ pant suits.
Who cares. let her wear what she wants it’s her voting record tat needs to change not her stupid pant suit.
ekuspa40 on February 8, 2007 at 11:52 AM
I’d rather see her in an orange jumpsuit.
MCPO Airdale on February 8, 2007 at 11:56 AM
“Show her feminine side”? What feminine side?
Jeez….guys, if your hips are ummmm larger than normal, then you should never ever wear anything but pants with a longer than normal jacket. The broad has no choice. Besides, has anyone (and I mean anyone) every seen her legs? I haven’t so maybe that’s another reason.
sharinlite on February 8, 2007 at 12:03 PM
Interesting that how a woman looks is fair game. Sigh, a long way indeed.
honora on February 8, 2007 at 12:06 PM
I just threw up in my mouth a little.
CUS on February 8, 2007 at 12:13 PM
Her Thighness is a Size 4 top and a Size 10 bottom. Hips too wide and legs too short. She’s a freak o’ nature I tell ya!
IrishEi on February 8, 2007 at 12:19 PM
OMG, is that really what Versace looks like? I think I’m gonna be sick.
dalewalt on February 8, 2007 at 12:24 PM
The pansuit ain’t no size 10. Maybe her shoe size.

ReubenJCogburn on February 8, 2007 at 12:35 PM
There’s a big difference between commenting on her looks in a thread about politics and commenting on her looks in a thread about what she wears.
James on February 8, 2007 at 12:36 PM
Honora, I would agree with you except for the fact that people commented on Bill’s “thankles”, too. I am just glad that he never wore any dresses, he only stained them.
bloggless on February 8, 2007 at 12:43 PM
Maybe she should wear black thigh boots and a long black leather coat. Condi tried that and nobody said a word……./eyeroll
Mallard T. Drake on February 8, 2007 at 12:44 PM
And the left never makes any remarks about anyone’s appearance. If she were hot, I’d say so. But she’s not, so too damn bad.
JammieWearingFool on February 8, 2007 at 12:52 PM
Tell you what: put a buck in a jar every time you see a nasty comment on Hillary’s appearance on this blog between now and election day (excepting those that are specifically about wardrobe).
Enjoy your new car. :^)
honora on February 8, 2007 at 12:52 PM
Amen, MCPO Airdale
I’ve seen her legs and believe me you don’t want to see them. If you take a picture of her and crop everything above the waist she could be mistaken for a grand piano. Actually she is doing us all a favor by wearing those pantsuits.
On the other hand, she has to work with what she was born with (as we all do) so she can’t help it if she has piano legs. I’m more concerned with that ultra-liberal mind.
OBX Pete on February 8, 2007 at 12:53 PM
If the Pantsuit ever goes overboard, call it Ankles Aweigh.
JammieWearingFool on February 8, 2007 at 12:55 PM
Jesus H Christ, some of you people are unbelievably myopic!! It’s not left or right, it’s the notion that a woman’s looks are somehow relavant–you don’t see this sort of comment re Rudy or Clinton or W or Biden or men in general. Nancy Pelosi got the same treatment. NOT because she’s a Democrat, but because she’s a woman.
How hard is this?
honora on February 8, 2007 at 12:55 PM
But Honora, myopia is primarily a “male” affliction. We’re not bigoted or prejudiced, just narrow-minded and shallow.
BacaDog on February 8, 2007 at 1:04 PM
Hillary drop her drawers? Why not? Bill did…
ricer1 on February 8, 2007 at 1:04 PM
Sure honora, nobody has ever made fun of Bush’s appeareance. I must be imagining all the McChimpy posters I see when your comrades are out whining at the protest du jour. Save your breath.
We make fun of Hillary and Stretch because we can, not because they’re women. Poking fun at your enemies is a time-honored tradition. If they can’t take it, that’s their problem.
JammieWearingFool on February 8, 2007 at 1:05 PM
honora - you just don’t get it. You wont see Rudy or Clinton (Bill) or W or Biden dressed as a woman so why does Satan dress as a man? If she wants to be classified as a woman she should, perhaps, dress like a woman.
OBX Pete on February 8, 2007 at 1:08 PM

Sure, nothing about looks anywhere…B.S.
You can say all you want as long as it is towards a black man and you say ‘attractive’ or ‘good looking’. The MSM is all over themselves drooling over a couple ‘attractive’ dems in office or running for office. You never hear of an attractive republican, tho some must exist.
-So it’s ok to say a black man who’s on the left is good looking, just NEVER say he’s articulate.
And NEVER compliment a republican…right?

You need to broaden you media selection. (Admittedly slim pickins, you know what they say: politics is show-business for ugly people).

Republican women vs. democrat women. You make the choice.
Capitalist Infidel on February 8, 2007 at 1:35 PM
Best of The Web called John F’n Kerry “French Looking” everyday for 2 years. We attacked him for his jaw, his wrinkles, his penchant for looking like a condom while making an illegal campaign stop at NASA, and an innumerable amount of other situations where he looked like a doofus. Bush has been attacked for looking like a chimp, wearing a flightsuit, his mountain biking, etc.

I think we’ve pretty well established Republicans by and large are much better looking people, especially on the female side.
Hey, if I wanted a lot of attention from female admirers, I’d post a mugshot on my site. But my wife might get jealous. Quite frankly, you never know what a jealous woman might do.
JammieWearingFool on February 8, 2007 at 1:53 PM
equal opportunity haters around here. Complaining when a woman gets it merely reinforces the patriarchy and demonstrates that women are not cut out for politics. Maybe you should stay home and bake cookies if you don’t want everything in your life to become an issue.
Seriously, Bill Clinton made an issue of what kind of underwear he wore. I have no desire to hear what any politican, especially a female politican, wears beneath their clothes. They’re far too old for that to be of interest to anyone, so lets not impart scarring images of grandmothers in lingerie to anyone.
I like Hillary!’s pantsuits. She looks good (not as good as Pelosi, but good considering) and much better than Katherine Harris who went in for too much. Listening to Donatella is a ridiculous concept that is about as appropriate as trying to copy Christina Aguilera’s look from her “Dirty” video Xtina days.
libertarianuberalles on February 8, 2007 at 1:54 PM
honora, you must only see or hear criticisms when it’s about women. You haven’t heard or seen criticisms of “Plugs” Biden, “Combover” Gulliani, or the “Cape Cod Orca” (Maalox warning)? There is equal-opportunity snarkiness everywhere.
eeyore on February 8, 2007 at 1:57 PM
Better looking than Katherine Harris? Dude, what have you been smoking????
Capitalist Infidel on February 8, 2007 at 1:57 PM

For those of you interested, I found a pic of Denny Hastert, trying to explain just how big her “thankles” are:

Yo, I never saw that Katherine Harris shot. That’s some body.
JammieWearingFool on February 8, 2007 at 2:14 PM
Jammie, I beg to differ. Ted is a fat slob. Denny is just a big guy. Given the choice, most women would prefer the big guy over the fat slob.

She wears pantsuits and trousers (who says trousers?)? That’s it I am not voting for her.
right2bright on February 8, 2007 at 2:49 PM
Denny’s problem previously was that he seemed never to have found a tailor. His shirt collar would be turned up, his clothes rumpled. Bill Bennett had the same problem. blogless’s pic above seems to say he finally found one.
And honora, I try not to uh… uh… “envision” Denny Hastert. And I think that Pelosi brings some of that criticism on herself. She typically looks quite normal, even attractive. But when she turns on that squared, learned, unnatural “model’s smile” when she thinks she’s supposed to look happy (cf. Giada de Laurentis), it doesn’t work any longer. Stop that, and she’d be criticized more just for dicey her work at creating that “honest, ethical, open (and stretch-limo jet)” Congress.

1)Using my keed lip-reading skills, she’s forming the letter “F”.
2)Using my keen face-reading skill s, she appears to be angry at the black woman she is speaking to.
Putting 1 and 2 together using my keen deductive reasoning indicates that she’s saying, in an angry voice, “Find Bill in whatever hotel he is in and hide him somewhere until the F$%^ing campaign is over!”.

honora, not long ago you were very critical of how Mrs. Bush and C. Rice dress - they are women…
Entelechy on February 9, 2007 at 1:34 AM
Clarification - I just remembered that you were critical of the gap between Ms. Rice’s teeth, not her clothes, but very critical of Mrs. Bush’s style in dress.
Entelechy on February 9, 2007 at 1:36 AM
If I recall correctly, I made a comment after seeing loads of messages dumping on Hillary for her appearance in one particular thread; and I pointed out that I was making comments re Rice and Laura to provide “balance”.
Hillary is not the point, the point is that woman’s looks are somehow fair game in a way a man’s aren’t. I don’t know if you remember when Katie Couric started off at CBS nightly news–all the talk about how she looked, how she dressed. Does anyone comment on Bob Schieffer or Brian Williams looks? Just interesting IMO.
honora on February 9, 2007 at 10:02 AM
Very nice way to talk about the next President of the United States….Ok, Ok, deep cleansing breaths….
honora on February 9, 2007 at 10:04 AM
honora, I do understand your ‘double-standard’ comment/s. However, we all have our impressions, you included. It doesn’t make it right, it just is. It’s also very much a Western-European thing, which has transcended here, to focus so much on fashion (aside from the weather and politics :)
Recall how Mrs. Bush Sr. once self-deprecatingly said, when asked about criticism of not dressing as well as Mrs. Reagan “I do dress as well, I just don’t look so good”. Very endearing. How does one change the body? Hillary’s got several problems and they’re not going to go away. Add to that the fashion standards of today…
This topic will be with us because an entire industry depends on it (and most women are somehow interested in fashion, and men like to look, at a minimum). Also, there is not much to comment on any male politico’s outfit - a suit is a suit, is a suit…even if it is an Italian one :)
